TheOneThird:  I am kind of planning on making a separate realistic elrail->underground transition that is not tied to any road system (stand alone rail transition).  The one I've been working on is based on Boston's Big Dig project.

As for standalone elrail->underground transition, I'm currently hunting for pictures of nicely done, modern subway tunnel boats around the world during free time.

Okay, months-long work of engineering is now unveilled...

The RHW/MIS tunnel entrance portal is rendered to game env.  Pics below at URL.

Again, same with ramp CS-SA, there will not be any vehicle automata (but it will completely function w/o any problems), due to LOD limitation issues.

Tarkus:  Let me know how you want to get this file for modding... I'll hand this over to Andreas Roth for now in the meantime, but drop me a message in MSN when you get a chance.  thanks!

I think I speak for us all when I say your models are so good that they look out of place.

Last summer when I was in Europe I snapped these photos of the sub-->el transition on the S-Bahn line that runs through central Berlin.  This is just to the south of Potsdamer Platz.

The rail lines in Europe - particularly the new lines in France and Germany - have lots of modern station and subway designs you could borrow from.  Try checking online or wiki...

Question: Is this the one that you said is compatible with UDI?

It's supposed to be a perfect reproduction of the real ramp, so the road that appears and disappears was probably done that way (versus being kept underground) to save money on construction.

    That's the subway connector tunnel.

The RHW-MIS entrance tunnel portal does not convert RHW traffic into subway, unlike existing big dig ramps.  Instead, it will be the first tunnel piece to convert traffic into the new, experimental "NAM/RHW Underground" tunnel system.

The problem with NAM/RHW underground tunnel is that it will create compatibility problems for people already using Big Dig based on subway.

So, to solve that problem, we decided to make this ramp to convert not just RHW->RHW_Underground, but also Subway->RHW_Underground, for backward compatibility.

Instead of just switching on "subway->RHWunderground" through lot transit enablement, we also wanted people to see it with their own eyes.  So, we have an extra lane that surfaces from underground (presumably from subway big dig network), then go back into tunnel again into RHW underground network.

Yeah, this is really awesome stuff, blahdy, as always.2.gif

Looking forward to working on that new RHW connector.  And yes, if you're wondering, it will indeed be UDI-compatible.

Does this mean that eventually you will release an updated version of your on/off ramps that are compatible with the NAM/RHW underground tunnels as well?

shasta:  No.  But there will be converter/adapter lots that convert traffic between RHW_Tunnel and Subway_tunnel while sitting completely underground, so both networks are backwards compatible.

    Big Dig STEX Maintenance Notice:

    Hello everyone:

Please note that all Big Dig files uploaded to STEX currently will be temporarily removed on either end of this month or by July 1st for a maintenance work.

    What's being done:

To make things easier for people, instead of making people download different dependencies, I'll be creating a new installer that installs both original Big Dig (1.0) release and all the subsequent component releases thereafter.  The new mega installer will replace the existing STEX files to make things easier for everyone.

So if you wanted to grab the files before the maintenance, do it quick, do it now! 4.gif

Superb work as always Blahdy. Might I make a small request? IF you create an el-rail to subway transition would you also consider making a GLR to subway transition piece as well? The current one available on the STEX (NDEX glr-to-subway) is functional and decent looking, but not very realistic. With your dedication to realism I'm sure you could come up with something that looks really great. Oh yeah, and did I mention your work is suberb! 2.gif

NO WAY!   Not another one!  UG! Good luck Blahdy... I'm glad that you will still upload the tunnels to the STEX, at least we know that. This is like a plague, but it guess its not anyone's fault. If possible, can you still post updates and images of the Big Dig/CRCP/RHW in this community too so we don't miss out? It would be to your benefit to give us the chance to comment on your models to point out anything that may be for the betterment of this project...

Well, c ya I guess... migration is just the process of evolution I guess.

SC4D is a good place so were ever you go i know that your work will guide the way. and with you all paired up with the RHW and NAM folks it can only get better. Regardless of what you do, keep on going, as i love all that you do and contribute.
