Nanaimo

By Tomdapom

Welcome to Nanaimo, my 2nd CJ. It will be rural, like quite a lot of new
CJs. Lets start by meeting the regions largest city.

New Columbus

Welcome to New Columbus, the regions largest city at just over 16000
people.

newcolumbusoverallview8xq.jpg

It is possibly the most famous city in the world associated with
ghosts. On December 17th 1989 at least 700 people reported
seeing ghosts in the city area. At this time only 5000 people
lived there so everyone new someone who had seen a ghost.

newcolumbuschurch6sz.jpg

At this church Sherry Erwin reported seeing a 'mysterious
being' come out of the small pond. "It was large and
lumbered towards me," her bewildered response.

newcolumbuscemetary2mw.jpg

At the Columbus Cemetary at least 400 ghosts were
reported seen coming out of their graves. 2 elderly
residents were rushed to Columbus Hospital but died
later that night due to heart attacks. The only victims
of the night.

newcolumbushotel3sp.jpg

The Royal Columbus was reported to have been
'hit hard' by the ghost attacks. The hotel manager
feinted after seeing a ghost army. The hotel was
looted badly and the repair cost was over 1 million
dollars.

It was a news story all around the world for the
next few days and rose many questions about the
town in question. But things only got better for New
Columbus. Tourism became the main income of the
town. A small airport was built outside the town. The
church became a main tourist hub. Many parks
were added and a golf course.

newcolumbusgolfcouse1cb.jpg

The golf course is world class and was completed in 1993.

I hope you enjoyed a trip through New Columbus.

Next update: More of New Columbus.

What a pretty city!  Nice mixture of urban and rural development here.  Those parks, churches and cemetaries look very cool!

I also like the story of the town, it's very cool that it developed into a tourist center because of ghosts.

That's one of the best overview shots of a rural city that I've seen here among the rural CJ's! The "ghost" element was an interesting thing to read; you should've gotten closeup shots of the cemetery b/c you can really see ghosts coming out of peoples' graves. Overall, nice start!

Battlecat: Thanks! I really wanted to make a rural CJ after seeing yours.

Cityhawk: Thank you. I am glad you like the ghost story, the city has been changed from farming town to tourist hub!

Energy Monkey: I got the golf course from the STEX. It is called SC Golf Pack by sim_idiot.

Mayormommy: Thanks! I will start all new towns with a picture like that.

    Tommy_Vercetti3: Thank you!

I will update later tonight. I need to work on the

    Nanaimo

Well I couldn't be bothered waiting till tonight so here is an update.

    New Columbus

    newcolumbuscitycenter8ht.jpg

Today we are going to look at the main attractions in New Columbus. Lets start with the city center.

    newcolumbusndc5sl.jpg

The tallest structure in New Columbus is The Nanaimo District Council. The building's blue windows were designed to simulate water which was such an important part in the cities development. The building was built in 1997 and opened on July 15th 1998.

    newcolumbusmtgbuilding1vs.jpg

The Marshall T. Goodman Building was built for Omnisofts, a financial planning business for computers. It is the newest building in New Columbus, opened on May 3rd 2005.

    newcolumbusdennys1od.jpg

Dennys Resturant was built and designed by Denny Deaver, cook. It was opened on September 9th 1993.

Lets check out more areas around the town.

    newcolumbussouthwoods6dm.jpg

SouthWoods Shopping Center was built in 1995 to provide to the southern suburb, Alhampton.

    newcolumbushospital6dr.jpg

The Nanaimo District Hospital was built in 1975 and has a capacity of 700 patients.

    newcolumbusstatues3sz.jpg

These statues were built in 1990 to commemerate Shane and Sue Joesph, the only two victims of the events of December 17th 1989.

    newcolumbustractorsupply8cv.jpg

    newcolumbusautofactory8gn.jpg

These are the two main industrial employers in New Columbus: Garson's Tractors and Hummer Electronics.

We have ended our tour of New Columbus, please leave a comment and go play SimCity!

Next Update: Garrone, a french town at the delta of the River Bulk.

Not bad - I like that green region view with avenue running through and all those lowrise sprawl.

Now I would like to see some details on your farms! As far as I can see no BSC/CSX farms but also no Pedriana ...

Looks like a very boring place to live there,

but thats the strong point of your town,

It's more realistic than other towns or cities in CJ's.

    Keep on the good work!

The golf course makes it look like a city in southeastern U.S. or the midwest, very realistic, well done!

    Nanaimo Replys

BRM: The map is of southern Nanaimo, its on the MEX.

    Bat: Thanks!

Nardo69: I downloaded some BSC and CSX farms this morning so in Garrone you should

see some. I downloaded the Pedriana killer mod

so that is why there are none of them.

    GMT: Thank you!

    Sloppet: Thanks!

Eggie99: I based my city on a town called Ashburton, which is very boring. All everyone does is stop there for a break before coming into the big city!!!!

Dubya: I never meant for that to happen, I designed it like a town in New Zealand, where I live. Most towns have golf courses here!

Battlecat: Thank you! I will do a little in depth for each town in Nanaimo.

    Simmax: Thanks!

Thanks for the comments, I really do appreciate them. Here is a one pic small update:

    New Columbus Domestic Airport

    newcolumbusairport9go.jpg

The airport was constructed in 1997 as tourism increased in the town.

    Comments appreciated!

Ok, the airport looks pretty nice, reminds me of the airport in my home town.  Only thing I might suggest is to check out Voltaires airport pavement pack.  That waterfront village and boardwalk looks superb as well.

    Nanaimo

Update 3: Garrone, the former french settlement:

Today I will show you the finished product of this mornings preview:

    garroneoverview6gk.jpg

Garrone was founded by french settlers in the mid 1800s. It was founded for the purpose of a fishing village and is now a major tourist attraction.

    garroneseavillagenew2io.jpg

This is the fishing village, or as its known the 'Village De Mer'. The village was built in 1879. Fresh fish is available here every day as it is still active. The shops include resturants, cafes, and jewellerey stores.

    garronetowncenter8rk.jpg

The town center mainly consists of 'hauts magasins de richesse'. The main road is the 'Rue de waterview'. The tallest building in the town is the high school in the top-left corner.

    garronestatefair7pc.jpg

In the summer the town comes alive as the 'Exposition de ferme' opens. Many tourists from around the world come to visit the top notch show. Produce from all around Nanaimo enters the competion.

I hope you enjoyed the tour through Garrone.

Next update: Feldwick, fine wine and cheese!

Looks good. I like that general layout and that you did not made a bridge thus leaviing some free space. You ought to plop some trees there (a lot fo great Mayor Mode trees hit the STEX recently!) to make some nice river woods on those islands - it'll definately look better than!

I really like the region views, it shows just how realistic your design is. The boardwalk area looks like fun for the summer time. The airport is small and unremarkable but realistic for a city of this size, good job on that. overall a CJ worth continuing.

This is very nice. That first zoomed out picture is excellent. It reminds me a bit of Harrisonburg, VA, the town I went to college, a nice medium-size rural city. Keep up the good work.

    Nanaimo

I completed Feldwick this morning. I (finally) downloaded photo-editing software so my CJ will be more in depth from now on. I have decided to

go more informative and tell you about some of Nanaimo's craziest residents!

    Replys

Nardo69: I downloaded some but I didnt like them, I will download more soon!

    Fabiocb: Thanks!

Soldyne: Thanks Im glad your enjoying the pics!

    Funkytim88: Thank you!

Energy Monkey: Thanks for looking again! I hope you enjoy Feldwick!

    ThomasAH: Thanks!

    Dfnva: Thank you!

Cityhawk: It is! Garrone has low crime, high education: it is the perfect city!

    Thank you for all comments!

    Now onto Feldwick.

    Feldwick

Update 4: Feldwick, town of wine.

    feldwickoverview8sq.jpg

Feldwick is famous for its wine, its Lindauer is famous world wide.

    feldwicktownview6aj.jpg

Feldwick was founded in 1843 by Irish settlers after finding the soil here was far more fertile than anywhere else in the area. Vineyards were founded later in the century as more people arrived. You may notice the design is similar to Garrone as the Feldwick town planner helped design Garrone.

    feldwicktowncenter9zp.jpg

The town center mainly consists of resturants with mainy types of wine from around Nanaimo. Hunter Furniture is owned by crazy old Will Brown. Will is the oldest resident in Nanaimo at 102 years young. Will claims his age to 'eating deer hooves for forty years' when he was lost in the forest. It is called 'Hunter Furniture' because the furniture is covered in animal fur from around the world. His record sale was a bedset with grizzly bear duvet and matching beaver pillows. He sold it to an anonymous buyer for 76,000 dollars!

    feldwickwga8nv.jpg

The Wine Growers of Nanaimo Association or WGNA as it is known recently built this ultra modern 5 storey build on Seers Road or State Highway 4 for 5 million dollars. Mr Warner, the head of WGNA is also the owner of the most prestidigious winery in Feldwick. He is also the head of a campaign to rid Feldwick of its only bar, the Lucky Boozebag.

He is sick of rascious drunks breaking into his property at 1 am and stealing his grapes, trying to get more drunk. It is said that one of the drunks, Joe Slack, has built his own winery to try to get drunker at midnight!

     feldwickfrattonpark0dq.jpg

This is Fratton Park opened in 1896 by Tom and Seamus Fratton. Reportedly Tom and Seamus inherited the land from Linda Bakersfield

after she was mudered. After she had signed the will at gunpoint, Tom shot her in the head and disposed of her in Garrone fishing port! Linda's only son, Matt, was found guilty of murder as Tom claimed to be her 'nephew'and was executed in New Columbus. Only a day after execution was banned in Nanaimo but it is too late to save Matt.

    feldwicklindispass7xp.jpg

Feldwick is also the last town before Mt. Haydore National Park. The road seen is State Highway 4 which is the official gateway to the park. The parkland was claimed in 1965 after a rapid decline in deer population due to hunting. Will Brown, owner of Hunter Furniture has been arrested severel times for hunting the deer in the park!

I hope you enjoyed my new way of presentation. Comments/Constructive Critisism appreciated!

Next Update: Somethings happening in New Columbus!
