Well I decided to cross my fingers and went with a full on high quality export.  It was started about 12 hours ago and is about 30% done with the first night view.  So hopefully in a about a week you should see the final lot start to come together.  I will still probably have to redo a couple of the buildings, but at least the big export will be out of the way.

Let me get this right, you decided to export a large part of the lot, lets say the base. When Equinox gets back you will have the rest of the lot. (I think) Will this project be done by the second week in July?

Edit: Did you start to render the whole thing?

Correct, its the base that's exporting, but it's being done by Vlakhaas.  He was able to get a couple of spare servers up and running for the export of Petronas and the WTC so that I don't have to take up anyones personal computer resources.  And with all of the work I'm doing on Petronas I've decided to let Vlakhaas and the BSC handle the creation of most of the lot.  So once the base is done it will be sent to one of his teams for the intial lot creation...I.E. the transit enabling, the functionality of it, as well as all of the testing.  Depending on how much I have to export again it may be ready by the end of July....possibly sooner.

Well after 108 longs hours the base is finally completed.  And luckily there were no power failures or missing textures to set me back so I think this lot can finally start to come together.

Here's a shot of the night lighting ingame.  I think it was definately a good idea to go with the brighter version, the plaza would have looked dead at night with that darker version I did.

I don't have all of the props added yet and I think there are quite a few I need to redo, but they won't be anything like the base.  I think I might actually go back and redo every building as well since Vlakhaas is letting me use his spare server.  After working on Petronas everything seems a little blah to me, and I'm sure I can spice things up a bit now that I've gotten a better grip on Gmax and it's renderer.

will you be taking advantage of the 3ds max renderer for this project?

Most likely not.  I'm too far along with this project and I think that I would spend more time porting it over to Max then the time I would save rendering.  If there was an exporter that would bring over materials as well, it might be worth it, but all in all I have about 30 Gmax files I would need to convert...definately not a small task and I'm not about to add in another setback to this project.

wonderful. simply a meticulously faithful representation of what once was. to say 'great job' is to not say enough.

But....make sure you release the hotel, three lowrise buildings, and plaza before you start redoing them, please. 44.gif

Oh...  my...  God...   That is amazing, Rubik.  You should be ready to take your place in the BAT Hall of Fame for this project.

And BTW for everyone else, 7WTC IS available on the STEX, but it was not modelled by Rubik.

Well, I don't think you'd want to include WTC7 in this, anyway, for two reasons - one, it's already modelled well and released by someone else, and two, it'd add extra tiles to the lot, which we could all do without.

As remarkable as it may seem, I've just tuned in to this thread now, and I must say, great job, Rubik!

It's incredible how much detail you have crammed into this lot. Most Batters would model the towers and the Marriott, stick it on some concrete base textures, and call it a lot. But you're even going to the trouble of getting the logo right on a miniature coffee shop, and all of my cities will be all the more accurate, realistic, and beautiful for that.

On a side note: How's the transit-enabling coming? I would suggest changing the textures to avenue textures, which can also be extracted from the dat files (4, I believe). Also, if you change the angle of the road just slightly, so as to remove those little tiny bit-tiles from the far side of the road, you might be able to cull those empty far-side tiles out of the lot, like the cloverleafs do in the middle of the leaf. I dunno. Just a thought.

I must say that you did quite an incredible job rubik and devoting all these hours to these buildings is simply amazing and kind. You truly deserve an award from Simtropolis. As for the buildings they are unbelievable. I never thought I'd see these towers in the game. They look awesome especially the World Trade Center's Base. Amazing job. 44.gif

wow, seeing it really brings back memories.  i remember walking around there a lot, sometimes late at night.  downtown manhattan's somewhat dead at nite (compared to the rest of the city), and yet wtc was one of the few places that was still open (at the the mall area, although the stores themselves would be closed).  but wow, good job!

Exactly as I remember it. I'm just amazed with the complex and everything and oh, flashbacks, *drops to the floor*.

RUBIK your project is really coming out well. Excellent Work!
I think we should revive the presence of an American Symbol as WTC was
and we should keep it in our hearts forever not as a disaster but as a place that stands for the
    american strenght

Well the real life bug struck again so I wasn't able to get as much done this weekend as I had hoped.  But here is one of the many changes that I want to do.  This is 4WT and I've tweaked the roof texture and lightened up the black on the sides just a tad.  After getting everything together it just looked a little too black.
