Finally an in game shot of tower 2.  Unfortunately there are rendering errors that I don't know if I can let slip by.  But in order for it to be perfect I have to wait for an update to the BAT.

BTW Toroca I have tested and props do indeed show up in the region view.

Do you plan to release the towers on the SimCity 4 Lot Exchange as well? In addition to more exposure, you would likely receive a job offer from Maxis within days.

I highly doubt that I would get a job offer from Maxis.  It would be nice but unlikely.  I might upload them to the SCex but every time I tried to upload my hotel, it would only upload the lot and nothing else.

Will the BAT update you need be a big huge project to complete?  I hope it is feasible and Maxis does it ... 1.gif

You might have to upload it in pieces. I've seen it done before. It looks very good! I can't wait for it to come out! It'll definitely be in the spotlight at the bottom of the page! And an update to the bat came out yesterday. Keep up the good work!

rubik, maybe you can post a list of some of the errors you are encountering? That way some other BATters might be able to offer advice.

They really aren't problems that anyone except Maxis can help with.  Unless Darkmatter wants to rework some of Maxis' renderer I have to wait for them to fix it.  Here a 2 of the many problems I'm having.

    Rendered Artifacts:

Lack in detail in further zoom night lighting:

Try telling Maxis about this personally! As in e-mail them or something! Otherwise, they may never figure out how to fix this because no one else had this problem.

Did you render at high quality?

I KNOW THE ANSWER TO YOUR NIGHT PROBLEMS! The answer is simpy that you need to cut back on lights! There are so many lights on at once right next to each other, that thats why it looks like that! Some buildings that came with Simcity have the same problem! You need to sapev the lights out so they are not ALL next to each other! Some of them can be next to each other, but there are so many lights on that are right next to each other, that you're having this problem!

TRUST ME!!! I'm 99.9% positive this is the source of your problem!

Hmm...Rubik....your render artifacts.....I don't think those are caused by the BAT. I think its caused by a low resolution playing the game, which causes the textures to be rescaled and filtered. Maxis's filtering method is very wanting, and could be made better, at the cost of performance. If you play at 1600x1200, texture artifacting is FAR less noticable (although you start getting seams between each texture on larger buildings), and for the most part, there isn't any texture artifacting at all. If you can't run at 1600x1200, I can test the building out for you and post some pics, but generally, textures sometimes get oddly streached/shrunk when you use lower resolutions in the game.

Also, about the night lighting issue....could you upload the .SC4Model file somewhere so I can download it and do some tweaking? I have a couple ideas. <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif>

The McCathy condos (blue ones) have a similar problem. But this is the WTC! Put as much detail in it as possible! No lot is too big!!

The lights close together makes it look more realistic, seperate lights will make it look less realistic.

i've noticed that i occasionally get texturing problems on stock buildings, move away, rotate, then go back, and if there are any problems, they're in a different spot. seems like that would be a display problem rather than a modeling problem.

overall it looks really damn amazing, it's bringing back memories of june 25, 1995 when i went to the top (for the first time.) it was one of the coolest buildings i'd ever seen, and this is an amazing re-creation of it. great job.

Yup several bulidings on a 16 acre site....

    In lower Manhatten....

    A long time ago....

These are looking so life-like that it's hard to belive that they'er mearly for a GAME of all things, but that's a GOOD THING [tm]

Yes I noticed that even Maxis made stuff suffers from slight errors due to the graphic card / cpu / ram / whatever have you, guess more ram would solve many of these graphical glitches we keep seeing, but they seem to clear up after rotateing or zooming, so we just live w/ them, go fig 2.gif

Today is the 11-year anniversary of the 1993 bombing at the World Trade Center, which marked the first time that America had been attacked on its own soil by foreign terrorists. I'm reminded that in 1995, a memorial fountain in an approximately 30-ft by 30-ft space was installed on the grounds of the trade center in an alcove between the Marriott hotel and the north tower. It commemorated the six people who died in the attack.

rubik, you might choose to leave it out of the lot so as to capture the spirit of the World Trade Center at a time before terror struck at all, but in case you decide to include the fountain, below are some pictures and here is a panorama in which it can be seen from a distance (zoom in with A). Also,  here  is a site with more information on the memorial fountain from its sculptor. It perished on 9/11 save for one piece of granite, which was later recovered at Ground Zero.

    The inscription read:

On February 26, 1993, a bomb set by terrorists exploded below this site. This horrible act of violence killed innocent people, injured thousands, and made victims of us all. This fountain is dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives.

    Rubik,
Gorgeous! Absolutely amazing. I can just picture these towers gracing the skyline of my version of Lower Manhattan. As a New Yorker I can't wait for it! I've had to settle for using the bank of china tower twice, to get something into ground zero. Also I used the Columbia Seafist Center for 7 World Trade Center. I just couldn't leave it blank or a huge park or plaza. I check this thread everyday and I think my Simcity 4 experience with be greatly, enhanced by your creation. Thanks a million!! 21.gif

I'm sorry if you've already said this, but there are so many replies to sift through, are you going to make a growable and a plopable version and about how big do you think the file will be.

I think that you should not include the memorial fountain, in order to capture the World Trade Center before any terrorism happened there. I don't want anything that would remind me of terrorism in the game.

Thanks as always for the pics Bigmac...I hope you're still going to be around when I get to the rest of the complex <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/2.gif>.  I think what I'll do I leave out all memorials but will include a prop package that will contain various real and created memorials that people can put into the lot themselves.

There will be no growable version.  I for one don't want to see 50 World Trade Centers pop up around my city, and I don't think there will be that many people that will want a growable version.  I'm going to leave it up to the individual user to do it themselves.

Uh ... the whole tower is a giant symbol of terrorism ... don't quite see how a tiny memorial would make any difference ...

Why would you call the WTC a symbol for terrorism? Thats like racism, but toward buildings. Its rude, especially since so many people lost there lives on that horrible day. I thinkk Immortilizing WTC in the BAT is the ultimate memorial to the victims of 9/11. You should think before you right, or explain what you mean before you press submit
