Blackbeard: eaxactly my point. Teh way SC4 is set up you need multiples of all civic buildings to cover a large maps which is about 2.5 by 2.5 miles

Just wanted to say great work on everything you've posted to date. I did have a request - I was hoping you could make a ploppable of your Farm & Fleet store as well as the Tractor Supply store. Thanks and keep up the great work!

I've got several minor projects I have 90% ready for upload. My new business is going very well, but takes up most of my time. By most, I mean generally 10 to 12 hours a day... there... plus an hour or two at home behind the desk. I am having a ball with it, but it leaves little time for SC4. So I have a bunch of projects 90% done. Sooner or later I'll find time to finish the remaining 10% of some of them, and post a few.

SG - Sounds like you don't have any time left in your day for anything else other than work and SC4! Don't burn yourself out!

BTW, I'm also in the medical field and I agree with what Blackbeard and Aldara said above regarding the urgent care centres. They basically act as outpatient facilities that serve to reduce stress on already burdened hospital ER departments. So their function would be entirely different than the regular SC4 clinics that in my mind would really be equivalent to family physician group practices. Essentially, if you want your blood pressure medications tweaked - go to the SC4 clinic, if you want your minor cut sutured - go to SG's urgent care centre, if you think you are having a heart attack - go to the hospital ER.

Finally, there is a minor gap in the comprehensive simnation health care system. There are no small hospitals in the game for small towns. It's silly to think about plopping a 20 storey hospital in a town of 5,000 sims. This is an issue that I think should be addressed. A facility with about 200 beds and no more than 3-4 stories tall would be ideal. Just throwing this out for discussion purposes...

I agree. I created the Small School for the same reason. A small town hospital should also have a large coverage radius.

    Ireland: 9,9

    Germany: 9,0

    Austria: 8,5

    France: 8,1

    Finland: 7,4

    Belgium: 7,1

    Luxemburg: 6,4

    Greece: 4,9

    Netherlands: 4,6

    Italy: 4,6

    Denmark: 4,2

    UK: 4,1

    Portugal: 3,7

    Spain: 3,6

    Sweden: 3,6

(These numbers are from 2000, 2001

I had a request to re-upload Wally Ks and the distribution center. I had the store in my archive, but do not seem to have the DC. I have the DC installed, but did not save the plop (I rarely use plops.). I am a little surprised that I don't have the DC, as I keep an archive of everything. Must have missed this one.

Anyhow, if anyone still has the installer from the DC, please email it to me so I can keep it consistant. (SimGoober@Cox.net). If not, I can make a new installer, without the Plop version.

Which DC are you looking for?  Is it Farm Fleet or Tractor Supply?  I have several hundred SG_Install_*.ZIP files but I'm not sure which one you are looking for...  42.gif

Thanks for the email!  Got it and uploaded!

I missed the whol epage of responses until today; I had bookmarked my thread, but didn't realise it wasn't going on to the new page... thought noone was posting for a couple days... lol...

I started playing wiith a small hospital last night.  Still under development .. I am playing with a "non square" design for a little variation, but BAT really messes with the angles that are not 90 degrees.  The wing on the right in this pic is a duplicate of the one on the left, but the shape looks scewed by the perspective of the render.  I may or may not change this as I move forward.

The idea is to have a single or double story entrance area in the front, and a similar area out back, for surgical suites and the like.

SG - Thanks for looking at the possibility of a small hospital for SC4. The size looks about right for a small town of 5,000 to 10,000. It actually reminds me of a small hospital I used to work in a long time ago. Don't forget to include an ambulance bay for the building and a stand alone helipad on the lot would also probably be a good idea so that the really sick Sims can be airlifted to the regional hospital for more specialized care.

Okeee dokee then... That was interesting. It appears I named the zip file for both lots the same, so when I moved them to my archive, one over-wrote the other. Turns out I HAD the ditribution center after all, and not the store. I found the backup of the store files (had the test folder backed up elsewhere), and remade the installer. Should be exactly the same as the one I uploaded the very first time.

Worked on this some more last nite, and this morning.  Starting to take shape.  The helo pad is out back, this may end up as a separate prop, to keep the LODs corect, as  well as the possibility of using the i game helo props.  Never played with them before so that should be interesting.

I'm thinking this will end up on a larger lot... parking off to the side opposite the emergency entrance.  A few parking spaces in front of the ER too, but the main parking elsewhere.  I may add a few more "add on" areas.  Sort of like real hospitals where you can tell some parts were added as the hospital grew.  Still a "rural" feel to it, and medium capacity.

    Goober,

    This looks great...very excellent... 44.gif

And, for realism sake just a few minor points for you to possibly improve on...although if you don't do it the hospital will still look great... 2.gif

First, for the most part, in most hospitals the ambulance entrance and front entrance are totally seperate so the ambulances don't have to try to navigate through a bunch of slow old people driving around looking for parking so they can visit relatives that slipped at Wally K's and broke their hips...man, you should watch those slippery floors you built in there -- could lead to a lawsuit... 2.gif  17.gif

Most hospitals that I've seen that have a detached helipad usually have the helipad raised off the ground and then a ramp coming down to the ground level entrance...or, the helipad is mounted on a maintenance or facilities building in the parking lot and then a covered or uncovered bridge leading back to the hospital...this is not always the case...because I have also seen a few helipads simply painted on a blocked off section of parking lot and they just put in some lights, but those are few and far between...

Aside from those points...I think this model looks great so far...can't wait to get my hands on this one...  Great work... keep em coming... 44.gif

    SG

It's amazing how quickly you are putting this together and it looks really spectacular.

I agree with Aldara, the ER entrance is usually completely seperate from the main hospital entrance and he is right, this is to expedite traffic flow and to make sure that people are directed to the proper place in the facility (sick patients to ER, ambulatory patients and visitors to main reception).

I appreciate you observation that hospitals frequently have "add-ons" that appear as facilities grow or take on new responsibilities. I have one suggestion for such an add-on. MRI suites frequently are attached to the outside of hospitals (especially small hospitals that have little room for internal renovations).

The reason why MRI's are frequently put in semi-attached structures is partly because of their weight (they can weigh several tonnes and therefore seriously stress existing floor joists) and also because of the strong magnetic fields that these machines generate. In addition, these units need strong radiofrequency shielding to prevent RF interference leading to signal degredation. It is frequently cheaper to just build on to the existing structure rather than perform the necessary internal renovations.

Again, thanks for your tremendous work on this project!!

An upgradable hospital would be brilliant! Like airfields are upgradeable.

I think Deadwood did an upgradeable school once..

You start out with a relatively small rural hospital and it grows, with added clinics andsoforth.

    *dreams on*

Very nice start so far - and we desperately need more civic facilities, because the same old Maxis hospital starts to get boring. Don't worry too much about the entrance and the ER zone - our local hospital has both of them in close vicinity as well because of space issues. The lot is very small, so both of them are at the front of the building, close to the road, with only a small parking lot next to them. There is another parking lot a bit further down the street, the helipad is behind the building, on a small lawn, and the rear end of the lot is situated next to a river (I could use some of your canal lots to simulate this... 4.gif ).

For some reason it feels more suburban to me. Probably has to do with the fact that the old main building (now gone) of the local hospital looked somewhat similar to this (although it was angled somewhat like the first shot.

A few ideas: perhaps have a few small, outlying buildings. My local hospital's outpatients clinic, scanning facilities etc. are all in outlying single storey buildings.

I also recommend having three parking lots (if that's not overkill in your view) - one for the ambulances, one for the staff (and they should ALL have the same type of car! There's nothing but Toyota Secas parked in the local!) and the patients/families/etc. parking lot.

Naturally, it's all up to you, Goob.
