Back on the semi-truck note, does anyone know if it possible to mod some of the automata trucks in SC4 to look like grocery store trucks?  I guess the only concern I'd have with that is I wouldn't want 6 million grocery trucks in a row heading out of my city on a highway, but it's a thought nonetheless.

I know youre doing grocery stores now, but if you come back to hotels i have one that would be good to do. This is the Holiday Inn Select (ex Hilton) Claymont. Sorry about the poor photos, I was taking them through rainy glass.

This is a basic, tan mid-rise hotel. It would be a good addition to cities.

Other stores I know of in New England include Shaw's (where I do 90% of all my shopping now, which is owned by Albertson's), Market Basket (formerly DeMoula's), Stop 'n Shop (NH's largest), and Hannaford.  I'm not calling for any of these myself, but if there's significant interest maybe you could consider one of these down the road when your workload clears up a bit.  You can probably dig up plenty on these through the internet as well.

Blockbusters has more than 8,500 outlets in 28 countries, so why not have one in Sim City 4.

For you Cat, I'll add it to my todo list.  It might take a while....

 

Here is tonights progress, now off to bed...

The roof still needs work, but other than that I think it's ok.  I'll also edit out the shops for a second option.  That will be easy, just lose the windows and signs, and edit a few walls to line up.

I also played with semi trailers.  Easy enough, as it is just a box with wheels.  Here are the props I'll play with...

I added Piggly Wiggly to the list. There was a request a while ago.

Ok, I rendered the trailers this morning.  It is so nice to have something render in 30 seconds....

The very bottom one is the in game one I used for scaling.  Mine are a little wide comparitively, but I think they will work.  The truck cabs are also in game.  They don't line up well in the LE, so I was playing with different positions to see what worked.

Looking good!  Hmmmm 30 second renders...my sound walls were like that.  I forgot what those are like, long before my 21-hour (3 times!) HSBC Arena render.

 

The only comment I will make is that the Tops truck looks a little funny.  As I can remember they're silver and the Tops logo and name are centered and nearly the full height of the trailer.  Maybe you could ask AfroThunda for details, if I remember right he has a family member that works for them!

Well, I made a fair amount off progress today.  My PC is rendering as I speak.  I have the Wegmans, Piggly Wiggly and Tops complete.  I converted the origonal Wegmans pictured above to a Piggly Wiggly, with a couple different textures.  Those are usually smaller stores if I remember correctly anyways.  I redid the model above, and took out the shops and made that one the Wegmans.  I also did a Tops, that one flew together, as the picture was a fairly basic building.  I'm going to work on a Publix next, as I found some interesting pics that look a little different.

 

Once I get a couple more done, I'll start building lots, and modding them in a group.  It should be easier to do that way, kind of assembly line style.  I'm also going to re do my Food Lion, Safeway and Kroger lots, to have them all be of similar build.  Those three won't look much different, they'll just get a tune up under the hood.

 

Next Monday should be fun, I hope to have the three updates, and at least 4 new groceries to release.

 

I'm going to divide them up between C$ and C$$ so they have a little variety.  I might even throw in a C$$$ as well; the Publix building I found might look like a wealthier one.  We'll see.  I'll make growables and plops, and maybe with and without parking. 

 

Reviewing :

Food Lion, Safeway, Kroger : done before now, to be updated.

Tops, Piggly Wiggly, Publix, Wegmans : Should be ready next Monday.

Shoppers, Wilson Farms : Next on list.

 

Should be enough variety for everyone.  8 different chains represented from me, and there are a couple others on the STEX as well.

Yeah, the Piggly Wiggly we went to in Columbia was tiny!

 

You're right about Tops, they tend to build just boring boxy white buildings, with that same style entrance area that is visible in that picture.  Nearly exactly the same - glassed in enclosure with the entrances that have that rectangle-semicircle elevation.

 

Personally, I would call Tops a $$ and Wegmans a $$$.  But I'm not the one making the lots!

Didn't make much progress today, my sister in law went into labor.  No baby yet, she's being slow about it.  I came home to get a few hours rest.

I tweaked the trailers a bit, for a little more detail.  I also tweaked a couple of the textures I used, though I am not that good at doing much to them.  Basically, just resized a few pics so the proportions were better.  I didn't notice until I put them on the lot, but the wheels and undercarriage stuff didn't show up.  I bet I didn't reset the LODs on these, so I'll re-render.  It's small details anyways, but if you look, they are floating.....

Sorry for the fuzzy pic, but you get the idea.

 

I'll work on the Publix a little bit before going to bed.  If all goes well, I'll still have them all ready for next Monday.

 

Oh, and Sergeant; we've got good friends from the Buffalo area.  I mentioned Wegmans to them and they went nuts!  For a second they thought there was one being built here, and were really happy!  I showed them your Sabres stadium , they are big fans.  Recognized it right away, and liked it a lot.

Yes, we love our Wegmans!  Unfortunately the nearest ones to me are 4-5 hours away.

 

BTW, that Tops truck looks markedly better, even with the lousy picture quality.  Good progress!

Sorry cat person, I posted a request for a blockbuster last week. this is my post it can be found on the bottom of the 10th page. Not trying to rub it in anyone's face, just think I should get the credit for requesting it first, and it will be great in Sim City!

I was wondering if you are taking suggestions. A blockbuster would be cool. Your buildings are awesome and I like to add a little realism into my cities.

Totally cool snappypappy21. I had seen your post about the Blockbuster. I was gonna say then i would like to see a Blockbuster too but i didn't want to just post a Me too!. Then SimGoober made the remark of Any other requests will be considered, but I am getting kind of strung out on these. That is when i thought again about the Blockbuster and how it seems to be a simple model or at least for SG. I even attempted to make the Blockbuster in the BAT until i found out the building i was making was about 262 feet tall.
Blockbuster has stores in every state including Virgin Isles and Puerto Rico. There are Blockbusters in 28 countries. (the site also says 25 countries, so).
It would be the first BAT video store for the game much like SG made the first grocery store, also his first BAT. Or i can make it and my first BAT will be a 262 foot tall Blockbuster's.
So, this is now my Me too post, i agree with snappypappy21. I keep getting a message in my news ticker that my sims are demanding a Blockbuster. Oh boy! Those pests.

Well, I got a new niece, and I'm too wired to get more sleep, so I'll work some more.  I fixed the trailer wheels; always remember to group the whole project togther in BAT before a render.  Sometimes, it loses smaller details otherwise...  The LODs were fine, but the small stuff just went away.  Got it all back now, so that's done.

@Pappy; sorry I missed your first request; didn't mean to slight you.  I agreed to Cat's request in appreciation of other help I've gotten before. 

@MexicanBoy ; I'll look into it. I want to get through my list here as it is still a bit long, but what's one more?

Here a pic of a Publix I got from their website.  I am using it as inspiration for the BAT.  I only put a roof texture on so far, to get an idea of how it comes together.

I may tweak the roof textures as I complete it.  I haven't figured out why the dark line shows up on the corner pieces.  I'll also put a sign on the top walls on one side, as I think under the eve in the center like the origonal won't show well in game.

Wow that Publix is looking sharp. And those comments are so true, I wish you the best in fixing the dark line problem. Lookin forward to seeing more.

SG the Publix looks great. Tkirch suggested in the request thread that he would like a Hooters, this seems to be right up your alley. I know you have alot on your plate but could you put this on your back burner as a city always needs a Hooters. Anyways keep up the good work.

SG, I know that in the picture that you're going by, the Publix sign is white, but could you possibly make it the traditional green color?In my opinion, I think that it would look nicer than the white. Excellent progress so far!

I've heard of Zellers, I believe from the Toronto area.  Never actually been to one though.  There's also Loblaws and A&P up there as well.

The Publix is now rendering.  It ended up with a white sign, as I didn't read the post until after i hit render.... Also, I think it will stand out better, as the roofs are green, and the sign actually sits right above it, off to the side of the picture above.  I gave in and made this one a little bigger; it is about a 6x4 lot just for the building. I'll probably build it on a 6x6 with parking, and a little room behind for the other junk.

 

I hope to start building lots tommorow, and will post some in game pics when they are done.  Thanks to Vlakhaas' endeavors, BATs are now rendering flawlessly, so nothing has to be done over and over to get a good copy.  I'll mod all these at once, over the weekend sometime.

 

Once these are complete, I'll build a couple more, and the Wilson Farms.  I think I'll make a generic one as well, so those in other parts of the world can have something.  I'm thinking a SimStop convenience store.  After that, I have committed to Blockbusters, and maybe a Kinkos as well.  Then I'll move onto restaurants.

 

So far, my list of known ones has an Olive Garden, Hooters, and Red Lobster.  I'm not making any promises yet, as this is still a bit off.  I've been looking at Hooters myself, and there is a local seafood restaurant I might do instead of the Red Lobster, or maybe both, who knows...
