Ok back on the canal thing since that is what I am building in my city right now, what about an elevated canal pieces, so you could have a road or rail go under the canal, aquaduct like.

thanks

SG,

I haven't been on the site in a long time.  I noticed you did a Outdoor World Bass pro shop and  you put a Giant Eagle in a shopping center.  These are a couple of things I mentioned a while back.  I am glad you did them.  Thanks.  They look great as do all of your work.

@ SimGoober

I came across your fire station and wondered if you still have the model? I was looking for some R$ terrace housing in the same style.

Shock! The UK gascooker terraces have some goober competition! 2.gif

You should release these to add some variety for the UK peeps trying to recreate the industrial glory of Victoriana! ( and it would greatly reduce the amount of PMs I get about doing bay windows-less version of the UK terraces i made many moons ago) 3.gif

LOL.. here I am thinking I am addingh something to the Chicago tileset, and three people in a row say they look British... I guess I should add them to the Euro tile set as well??  THey are currently only in Chicago.

I made 6 variations of them, all very minor differences.  They are on 3x1, 4x1, 6x1, 3x2, 4x2, and 6x2 lots.  The two deep have wooden fences made custom to divide up the yards.  6 variations of those as well, so you shouldn't get a lot of repeatition on these.  All the models actually fit on a 1x1 lot, so that makes them even more variable.  I'm going to revisit my older row homes as well; most of them I just made on 1 wide lots, and I never liked how they grew that way.  I think I'll do the wider lots only.

Hey Simgoober, I love all your work, its awesome and well I have almost all your buildings, soon I will have to buy a computer just to support your BATS 3.gif anyways..you seem to be on a Civic roll lately, and I was wondering if you could make a police station pack or something? We seem to be lacking in police stations! there is none on the stex that are police stations that would fit in towns, the ones on the STEX all stick out too much or look like headquaters...thanks 2.gif

There's a man in Belfast with a very happy grin on his face! They're amazing SG1.gif Perfect.

With all respect to Gascooker, us UK folk need some variations to our terraces. So look forward to those in the future.

If you are still working on them, a red brick style (see pic) would look good also. Is it possible to make back to back terraces with an alley between them? About the width of a car (automobile).

Making a lot with a back alley wouldn't be too hard.  Making it look right in game... that would be trickier. You'd need to have the houses growing back to back, on just the right lot. then if any other housing grew up next to, or between them... it would look off.

I might do one more varition on this theme.  Simple design really, just takes a few hours to work on them.

Maybe Goober that would be the art of playing with these BATs. I know that there is already an art to creating suburbs of GC's UK surburbian houses. This would be no different.

Perhaps a ploppable lot? 4x12 with the alley going across the middle?

What was the art Lord_Bertrum? Is this discussed in a Gascooker thread somewhere?

Simgoober, your my hero, the Northern Trust Bank, holy smokes. I'm from Milwaukee originally and while I conceed that we're no the most beautiful city of all time, we've got a few good things going. It always gives me a small twinge of pride when my hometown is acnowledged., spo thanks alot. It's also a great lot, as always.

P.S. If you want to do more buildings from Milwaukee, may i humbly suggest the Wisconsin Gas Building:

Art Decco at it's finest, and right next door to the Northern Trust Building.

    Irishgrapes,

I have absolutely no BATting experience, heck, I've never even tried... but that building looks like it might be pretty tough because it is so multi-tiered.

I'm from Chicago originally, so, of course, I appreciate the Chicago buildings that have been done, but I go to college in Wisconsin and can definately appreciate the ones from Milwaukee as well!

I had a try at making a larger lot with an alley.. didn't go to well.  Couldn't quite get it to look natural..

As to Milwaukee, I have a couple pictures of that one as well.  Even thought about playing with the light on top, which changes with the weather... could make for an interesting seasonal thingy.  I already did the Iron Block a few months ago, and have the Loyalty Building in testing.  There is also a neat small red building across the street from the Pfister hotel (which I am also thinking of), that I started a couple weeks ago.  The BAT is about half done, just haven't gotten back to finish it.

By small red building do you mean the Milwaukee Club?

    cornerdet.jpg

I love that building as well, heres a great resourse you may want if your doing Milwaukee Arctitecture:

    MSOE Milwaukee Architecture Page

It has pictures of all of the significant buildings in Milwaukee from 1837 to the present.

Oh, one last thing, if you do the Wisconsin Gas Building with a changeing light, you would no longer be my hero, you would be a God.9.gif

The Milwaukee Club it is!  I had heard the name somewhere, but had forgotten it.  Now I'll definitely have to finish it.  Make it a Cs$$$ lot, for the upper crust in a city.. 3.gif

I've only been to Chicago a couple times, and briefly, so I am not that familiar with the style.  I know there are a lot of small row homes in the area though.  Actually, you had mentioned you liked the style of my Chicago fire dept, so that's why I decided they were in Chicago... lol

Here's another set of variations I am working on.  Got 10 variations now, all minor changes. Added ivy to 2 of them... Still need to render, and test them out.  I think I will duplicate the building exemplars from the Sardina set, so they will grow evenly with them.

A little more detail, but still on the same style as the others.

It's amazing how much difference details like three leaves of ivy and those roof hatches can make... I wasn't entirely sure about your Sardina Homes (great name btw 18.gif ), but with this new addition, you have convinced me! 44.gif

These are coming along very nicely SG. The ivy houses would look great in a tree-lined avenue.

I've noticed in Belfast, Dublin and various cities in northern Britain where the residents paint their doors bright colours..red blue green black etc. This might brighten up the row. I'll try and google an image.

One of the rather striking things I've noticed about Milwaukee, every time I drive through, is how much the church steeples are a stark contrast in areas outside the downtown proper to the single-family homes and low-rise buildings.  These steeples rise MUCH higher into the air than even a 2 or 3 story building, and, while I don't know that Milwaukee has more churches than anywhere else, it SEEMS like there are move, simply because you see so many.  Actually, my hometown of Wheaton, IL claims to have the most churches per capita... but that's another discussion all in itself.

You see church steeples in places like Chicago, too, but there are so many more mid level rise buildings, the steeples don't create such a contrast.

BTW... I'm not an expert, but I think that the architecture of Milwaukee and Chicago are pretty similar.

Very astute jglei701, one of Milwaukee's nick names is actually the city of spires. Thats one of my favorivte parts of going home, driving north through the low lying part of town with it's tall spires with the skyline of Milwaukee rapidly aproching.

For me I always mark my arrival home by three very distinct land marks:

    1901c.jpg

First the Basilica of St. Josaphat thats just off the highway on the south side, it's acctually one of the largest domes in the world.

    1930a2.jpg

Then of course the gas light on top of the Wisconsin Gas Building in the heart of Downtown. The colors go as fallows: GOLD: Cold, RED: Warm weather ahead, BLUE: No change in view. Flashing means precipitation is anticipated.

    1874c.jpg

Finally the North Point Water Tower that marks the affluent upper east side and your eventual entrence into Milwaukees imidiate suburb to the north and my home town, Shorewood.

Oh and P.S, don't sell your hometown short, we've actualy got a part of Milwaukee called something like little Chicago becuase the architecture is very similar. The point is if Chicago has much more distinct and interesting architecture then her humble sister to the north. Oh, by the way, are you at Madison or where do you go to school in Wisconsin?

I go to UW Stevens Point, but my girlfriend  fiance (I keep doing that!  I'm not used to being engaged!) went to UW Milwaukee when I met her and we stared dating.  I've actually seen the North Point Watertower (and, of course, the Wisconsin Gas building when you're driving towards the downtown from the South).

I've actually always liked driving through Milwaukee.  I've seen MUCH more of Madison, though, since I've been in college, because I drive right by Mad town (and not Milwaukee).  I miss it!
