About This File
This statue 22 meters long and 11 meters in height is a one-third-scale replica of the lion set up in Belfort in memory by colonel Denfert-Rochereau, work of the sculptor Bartholdi which is also the author of the famous Statue of Liberty. Installed in 1880 in the center of the place Denfert-Rochereau (14th arrondissement of Paris), the statue commemorates too the resistance of the colonel in front of Prussians during the war of 1870 and would have been set up here at request of Bartholdi him-self, whose workshop was situated in the fourteenth arrondissement.
