About This File
Here are three config.bmp files for you to use in designing your regional layouts. They differ from many configs I've seen in that they are structured around building and maximizing demand within a region. In all of them I tried to avoid a "four corners" scenario where direct connection demand was unable to flow from, literally as the crow flies, adjacent cities. Each configuration has a challenge associated with it, as well.
config-sml.bmp (8x8km)
The Small Metropolis
This city layout is a mini version of the large scale format I use to build demand across a whole region. The central city is where you want to start and build outward in a circle in the region from there. Expand into the small red maps along the edges to fine tune demands and population types once the center medium maps have begun to stagnate.
Challenge Population - 6 Million Sims
config-med.bmp (16x16km)
The Medium Regional Metropolis
This layout is my favored one as it is merely a larger representation of the small one with more room to expand. Like the small it uses staggered maps to maximise demand across a given area without relying on large maps with small map borders.
Challenge Population - 30 Million Sims
config-lrg.bmp (32x32km)
The Nation
This layout is a special one and my hardest layout to figure out. The goal is to build cities in each cluster around the edge and use the overall regional demand to build a huge city in the middle. Many different smaller regions and layouts I use are condensed and jig-sawed into a larger mosaic of a region.
Challenge - Use every tile in the map for some constructive demand purpose. (Zoning, Utilities, or Transport)
Achieve a population of half a Billion sims.
To Use -
1) Create new city and name it what you want.
2) Exit SimCity without making any cities in the region
3) find the folder with your new region in your my documents/SimCity 4/regions folder.
4) replace the config.bmp for your region with the layout you want to use and rename it config.bmp
5) Terraform and play your city.
Note on the challenges -
You may use the following types of "cheats"
- Money item up to $50,000 per month
- NAM and anything in it
- Garbage Chute
- Modern Water Towers
- Geothermal Plants
- Eye candy and balanced ploppables
Be honest, there's no rewards so you only cheat yourself.
Version 2 Adds a few more of my favorites to the collection. They still follow the same basic principles, but are a little more esoteric.
