About This File
Here is a map of my hometown Saint John, New Brunswick. Canada's first incorperated city (1785) Saint John was a large industrial centre with major port and railway hub. For the greater part of the 1800's the population of Saint John grew rapidly and was larger than that of Halifax and even Toronto. The city was on pace to be one of the leading urban centres in Canada, until a devastating fire in 1877 which wiped out the city's downtown core. The city rebuilt but could never match its previous growth.
Today Saint John is the largest city in the province of New Brunswick with a metro population of around 125,000. It remains a large port and rail link and is still the provinces leading industrial centre. The Irving Oil Refinery is the largest and most productive refinery in Canada. The Reversing Falls rapids are a large attractiong where the high tides of the Bay of Fundy actually rise to reverse the flow of the Saint John River. The 'Uptown' (used instead of downtown because of its position on a hill) is currently undergoing major urban renewal and redevelopment projects that will change the face of the city over the next 5-10 years.
This map includes - Saint John, The Kennebecasis Valley (East to Darlings Island), The Saint John River Valley (North to Browns Flat) and the Bay of Fundy Coast (West to Point Lepreau)
Map Size - 1793 x 1665 (7 x 6.5 large tiles)
Note: This map was lost during the changeover. It has been completely re-done from scratch and re-scaled as acuratly as possible.
