About This File
On the morning of 6 June 1944 five task forces, one Canadian, two British and two American, under continuous air cover and following air and naval bombardment, assaulted the coast of Normandy and won continental beachheads. On four of the beaches opposition ranged from light to moderate. On the fifth, OMAHA, unexpectedly strong enemy forces delayed the V U.S. Corps in its advance inland and inflicted heavy casualties.
This map is a tribute to that massive feat of logistics, engineering and to the memory of all those who fought and died there. It is fairly accurate and is 5 large cities x 3 large cities.
