About This File

This statue has been re-uploaded, because the previous version mysteriously dissappeared after the forum and STEX upgrade.

Background:
Simón José Antonio de la Santísima Trinidad Bolívar y Palacio (1783-1830), best known under the much simpler and easier to pronounce name 'Simon Bolívar' was a South American revolutionary leader. Historians have labelled him 'the George Washington of South America', but in most respects his feats were more impressive than Washington's.

Bólivar is credited with leading the fight for independence in what are now Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Panama and Bolivia (which was named after him!). Besides these impressive feats, he also aided independence fighters in Chile and Argentina and became the first president of Bolivia when it became independent from Spain in 1824. For his role in fighting for the independence of South America, he is known as 'El Libertador', or 'The Liberator'.

Today, he is still revered in the countries that he helped become independent and many streets, squares and statues are named after him him. But not just there. The statue you see here is actually modelled after a statue of him in Washington D.C. and has the following inscription on the front:

Simon Bolivar - The Liberator
Caracas, Venezuela - July 24, 1783
Santa Marta, Colombia - December 17 1830

To this day, the Venezuelan government awards replica's of Simon Bolivar's actual sword as an honorary gift, much like the U.S. Congressional Medal or other such honorary gifts.

Personal note:
This statue was requested by Jerebannus XVI and because I had heard of this man and always thought there wasn't enough attention for his feats, especially in most of western history, I decided to make this statue so that he could be honored throughout the cities in SimCity..

Description:
This copper statue of Simon Bolivar, also known as 'El Libertador' stands upon a pedestal consisting of 24 blocks of black marble. The general himself is seen directing his horse towards the field of battle and with his sabre he appears to indicate to the troops behind him to get ready for the fight, or even for them to follow him into a charge..

I hope you'll enjoy my seventh BAT creation and find a fitting place for it within your cities..

If you would like to make a request for a statue, feel free to post it in my statue request thread here at Simtropolis.

To quote a staff meber (I guess): TheOneThird Please, please, please do *not* re-upload. All the files are still there. This is a database problem. Re-uploading will only create duplicates and cause all sorts of chaos and may draw complaints from original creators.

... so I assumed it was a dumb question or something and decided to reupload. I'm sure the reuploaded file can eventually be deleted.. Although a public announcement would've been nice..
