About This File
CVRIA IVLIA
The Curia was the meeting place of the roman senators. The construction of Curia Julia started under Julius Ceasar (after whom it was named) after the Curia Hostilia burned down in 52 bce. It was finished August 28th 29ce under Emperor Augustus.
At the beginning of the 7th century it became a church - this probably saved the building from being used as quarry.
The building on the left is the Secretarium Senatus.
