Rancho Palos Verdes, city, Los Angeles County, southwestern California; incorporated 1973. This residential community is situated on the Palos Verdes Peninsula near the city of Los Angeles. In the area are the Palos Verdes Art Center and the Wayfarers' Chapel, designed by the U.S. architect Lloyd Wright and noted for its tall stone campanile. Population 36,577 (1980); 41,659 (1990); 41,145 (2000).
