About This File

Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in our solar system and is locatedon the planet Mars. I took the satelite photo of Olympus Mons andedited it a bit (to remove shadows etc) and to attempt to smooth theterrain out a bit to allow water and less hills.

About Olympus Mons:

Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in our solar system and is locatedon the planet Mars. In reality Olympus Mons is exremely flat and issurrounded by a cliff nearly 6 km high in some areas and in other areasis completely covered by huge lava veins that feed the still activevolcano. The volcano also seems to have odd looking "wrinkles" allaround it. These wrinkles and extremely high scarp make up whatscientists call the Olympus Mons Aureole. The volcano has collapsed inon itself multiple times because of its extreme height and weight.Three easily seen collapses can be seen on the rendered map and on theoriginal satelite image located on the south side, the east side andthe center of the volcano.

Future Edits:

In future versions Olympus Mons' Aureole will be included. (As soon as I can figure out how to remove the shadows in Photoshop!)

Any comments are welcome as well as suggestions.

Bluthmania, The height of the volcano is huge...as in way to big for the game to even render if it was real height, the Olympus Mons Aureole is 6 km high in and of itself. I am working on adding the Aureole to the second version of the map but it will probably never be the actual height.
