Really nice parkland! I like how those houses back up to the park, something that often happens in real life.

Thanks. Not really going for rural Virginia, just a park in the city, hehe. I'll have to take a look at what you are referring to :)

sim_link: Nice work, the creek area looks fantastic with its vegetation.

Thank you very much. I am envious of all the great Mayor Mode Ploppables that someone like _marsh_ uses so expertly. Glad my little attempts look fantastic, haha.

bluemoose: Really nice parkland! I like how those houses back up to the park, something that often happens in real life.

Thank you. Yup, I see it a lot in Milwaukee, backyards turning into parkland.

    Thanks for the comments!

Update 63 - Uttica Creek Neighborhood: Oklahoma Avenue

We continue along Uttica Creek, first south and then west. First we see Exit 79B to West Oklahoma Avenue which runs just south of Uttica Creek.

We've seen this area before, just north of the University of Wenzel - Martin campus.

    Remember?

As you probably have seen, the street map has been updated quite a bit. I'm currently working on the area near St. Paul, though I might go back and fill in more area between Martin and Hawthorne on the south side. Really, I'm just building everywhere, haha.

Lookin' good! :D I like the layout of your streets in the above areas. Something unique. Very few streets are completely straight for long... look forward to more as usual!

SimCoug: Great update - I can't recall seeing a diagonal road under a train overpass like that before - It looks very nice.

There is no diagonal road under the rail, haha. I wonder if it is possible with NAM. I'm not sure if I tried.

sim_link: Lookin' good! I like the layout of your streets in the above areas. Something unique. Very few streets are completely straight for long... look forward to more as usual!

Thank you. There will be more less grid like areas as we move further out into the suburbs, however this area just has these characteristics because it is near the parkway.

City_Master: Amazing! Love the vegetation next to the rivers and creaks!

Thanks, like I said, no where as good as _marsh_ though, haha.

Doing some system maintanence on my laptop this week. I found that my laptops fan is not working causing things to get a little hot...the heat monitoring programs I have indicate that things are running hot. 50 degrees celsius or higher idling sometimes, but when I look for info on the internet, most places say this is fine. Well, I figure a non-functioning fan is no ideal, so I am replacing it, looking into getting a SSD and figuring out if I can use my old harddrive as an external, since I have more data than a 128GB SSD (budget restraints) could handle. I'm also going to update about 19 drivers that need updating. I ran a bios/driver update scan...I'm a little scared about doing the BIOS update, since if I botch it I can't reboot! Any suggestions?

This is all in response to a couple days ago when my whole computer was just running terrible sluggish. SimCity was choppy even in a small tile...frustrating because there was a point (right after I installed 8GB of RAM that I could play a fully developed large tile smoothly.) So, I ran CCleaner and clean up unneeded files, cleaned the registry, etc. etc. I opened my laptop to give it a good clean of dust, not without difficulty...I was having a really hard time popping the keyboard out and bent it up a little (turns out I couldn't get it to pop out because I missed one of the screws holding it in...FACE PALM). Oh well. Essentially, I am trying to get back up to speed about computer hardware and software and be a little more adept like I used to be in my younger days, haha.

Wow, the area looks really good! One of the best industrial areas I have seen in a CJ. :)

I know what you mean about the lack of areas to show off... I have run into that problem. that and a complete lack of ideas on what to do next, plus RLS, is why my CJ is at a standstill and has been for a while now.

Looks great. I like how the rail integrates with the industrial areas.

One question I have though, is: How do you maintain residential demand filling in all those areas? When I zone large areas of residential, none seems to want to move in.

Wow nice port facilities there, although in the "Emerald Electric" moasic, maybe eliminating the at-grade rail intersection would be more realistic in my opinion.

And those docks in the 4th picture must be realllyyy tight for ships?

Yeah, argh, real life, haha. I had a week a couple back that I just had no motivation or time. Now I am trying to get my game to run well again. Contemplating an airport but feel a lack of preparation and confidence in that. Thanks, glad you think it is one of the best, ha!

TekindusT: These industrial areas look incredible!

    Thank you!

Jimmy Buzaid: Amazing industrial areas, what's the train yard in the 2nd to last photo.

Thanks, glad to be one of your first two posts! The train yard is from North Country Dude.

SimCoug: Great industrial shots. I especially like the rail yard mosaic.

Thank you. Sometimes my industrial areas work. Other times, not so much.

City_Master: What a great looking industrial area! The ports around and in the river look great too

Thank you very much. I'm trying to replicate what I see in real life.

    zahrul3: Nice custom lotting there!

I wish. Actually no custom lotting from me. Just combining different lots to make something great.

bluemoose: Looks great. I like how the rail integrates with the industrial areas.

One question I have though, is: How do you maintain residential demand filling in all those areas? When I zone large areas of residential, none seems to want to move in.

Thank you. As for residential, usually when I start a new city tile (it has been started but only has farms), so I mean when I start zoning residential they just grow like crazy. Usually this growth is able to blanket a whole medium tile. The hard part is when I am developing a large tile because that fresh demand fades about halfway through. I've started using the RCI Multi mod that creates home jobs and you can go to 100% home jobs making it possible to build an entire tile without any businesses or industries. I suppose one could call this cheating, but I think of it as a balancer. SimCity's game engine, and here is the debate of playing as a game or as a hobby, just doesn't allow for creation of real cities. For example, many people who work in downtowns in those high-rise buildings usually live in the suburbs and commute miles across town. That mod emulates that. For me what it does is allows me to actually fully develop a tile, because I always get the problem that the leading edge of development on a tile refuses to grow. Of course that is usually only a problem on large tiles as medium and small tiles seem to be covered by my region's demand for residences.

nathanthemayor: Wow nice port facilities there, although in the "Emerald Electric" moasic, maybe eliminating the at-grade rail intersection would be more realistic in my opinion.

And those docks in the 4th picture must be realllyyy tight for ships?

Yeah, some things are not ideal, haha. I don't think the at-grade rail intersection is too big a deal since 40th Street by that point is really not a heavily travelled primary road. Besides that, I've seen many at-grade intersections on primary roads in older industrial areas. I figure some of the docks are probably pretty tight for ships, haha.

MamaLuigi945: Really nice mosaic. I love the steel mill.

I like that steel mill, too. I have all those heavy industrial lots that ???fukuda??? created (sorry if credit is misplaced), but it is sometimes a chore to figure out where to place them realistically.

Update 65 - AXELROD: Small Farm Community to Crossroads

I have had these pictures laying around for a while. Here is another little community that has now been enveloped by the expansion of Martin. On the street map, I still have Axelrod's town limits and street names, though, it has been annexed by the City of Martin.

    0165052812.jpg

Axelrod was just a small community along Hawthorne Pike (D-34).

    0265052812.jpg

South 32nd Street is expanded south to Axelrod Avenue. The City of Martin is poised to expand into the farmland surrounding Axelrod.

    0365052812.jpg

Shops along D-34 in Axelrod. We can see a gas station at the upper part of the picture.

    0465052812.jpg

Axelrod's streets are upgraded from dirt to packed gravel.

    0565052812.jpg

As the City of Martin overtakes Axelrod, the intersection of West Axelrod Avenue, South 40th Street, and West Hawthorne Avenue (D-34, N-45) is completely rebuilt.

    0665052812.jpg

    0765052812.jpg

Old Axelrod is certainly no longer a farming community.

    0865052812.jpg

Now many years later even the City of Martin is starting to rot as houses are abandoned and empty lots appear more and more.

    0965052812.jpg

    1165052812.jpg

Wenzel Commuter Rail Hawthorne-Martin Line and WTAMetro Red Line 1.

    1265052812.jpg

    1365052812.jpg

    1465052812.jpg

Today's update is shaded white. Last week's update is just south of where we are today.

    1565052812.jpg

Sometimes I hit a rut, but I think I'll start hammering away building again. I think I may have to restart the St. Paul tile (so far only seen in Update 5, I believe. It will be a shame since the design of that downtown was kind of cool and shortsighted, haha.

Check out the District of Wenzel Street Map to get an idea where we are.

City_Master: You've done a great job upgrading all the roads and streets!

And also love the last region shot!

Yup, the region shots always seem to steal the show...of course those are my favorite shots in any CJ.

Jimmy Buzaid: Great job, and great use of the SAM!

Thanks. I don't use it often, usually just for my farm areas.

SimCoug: Region shot is great, as always.

Thanks. Really hoping I can getting into the game more and spread this city out further. Just burned out on SC4 the last few weeks.

Thanks for two great years! Really! Today is the two-year anniversary of District of Wenzel!

I love it. What is that building one-tile left of the Avenue-Road transition in the first pic? I totally pictured Garfield Blvd. What is the Arch in the second to last photo? Reminds me of the Washington Square Arch in New York. Great work!
