  1. Mix C zones and R zones together; instead of having a completely residential district and a completly commerical district, have a district with both. Include some kind of mass transportation. You should find yourself with short commute times and alot of pedestrain activity. Buildings should generally be close together so that walking is practical, but in SC4, all of the distances are scaled down so much that they are close together compared to reality.
  2. mipro Barry Sanders Project

We'd need to find someone to mod it though

The dark grey is the sim city bridge. The user would have to use a maxis bridge that is flat and has nothing underneath and I don't know if there is such a bridge. The red is your bridge, which must be made to fit the maxis bridges. Your bridge is on the green tile, and your bridge is a prop that hangs over the edge ontop of the maxis bridge. The other option is that you could make it as an addon to one of the fake river packs on the stex, but it wouldn't be transit enabled. Making such huge fake river would be silly though. So I'd go with trying to make it fit ontop of a maxis bridge, but it won't be easy
  4. Herslebs Gate 19 by GLENNI revisited

The link doesn't go to Glenni's BAT :) but I can go find it. The ground textures work well with the props and building.
  5. Simcoe Place

Cool, I remember seeing this in a thread a while ago. The pictures here don't quite do it justice.
  6. Who is your favorite BATter?

The peoples stuff I actually end up using the most is: Don Miguel, O'Neil, and Marrast, and me!
  7. mipro Barry Sanders Project

::bump:: I rescaled the Free Press building. In real life it is 60 meters wide (I think) which fits well on 4 tiles. I think I had it at 5 or 6 tiles before. This also means that there is less roof area, so now it isn't so intimidating (I was having trouble with the big roof surface and roof junk). Also, city election votes are being tallied, and unfortunatly, the current mayor (Kwame Kilpatrick) is going to win. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kwame_Kilpatrick has some info, and links to more information on Kilpatrick. There is less information on Freman Hendrix (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freman_Hendrix)
  8. Smaller buildings?

You don't seem to pay much attention to when you play the game, because if you did you would notice that there are alot of light density buildings with large foot prints. And as others have said, change it yourself! It only takes a few clicks in the lot editor to change a lots size, and only a few more clicks to reposition and delete the extra props. It's very easy to do.
  9. Steves Strange BATs

yea, as rp said the colors will have to be desaturated for the game. Also, imo you should use the lot editor for the parking lot texture so that shadows can come through from other buildings. looks good

Thanks everyone About the other types of transit stations. Someone had a good idea about making an elevated rail station out of these, and I was going to make one, but, to be blunt, I don't feel like it anymore, lol. I might still do it in the future, but not now, I get bored with projects too easily. I haven't been working on the train station, but I have been trying to make other things (8 different buildings which I ditched). But I won't ditch my idea of Posh Potatoes, a CS$$$ for the Chicago and New York tilesets. The place serves trendy and hip potatoe foods (like baked potatoes) I guarentee that there will be a building called Posh Potatoes on the STEX someday. It's just too cool of a name to pass up.
  11. Do You Want BATs??

This might be interesting, but there has never been any in the STEX.quote> The 3ds files section has completed buildings. Making them untextured is only a matter of a few clicks. I think whether this would be a good idea depends on the model. If there is room for individual customization (like the billboards) then it could work, or maybe if it's a house, and that way people can make different colored houses. Otherwise, just finish them yourself after some experimenting with the textures you'll do fine, and then you can download some furniture and roof junk files off the stex to put inside the buildings, or where ever. Plus you can always retexture a building later if you decide the origonal textuers weren't good. But there are so few 3ds files on the stex that no one would mind if you uploaded a super pack or two of unfinished buildings.
  12. ST chat event

I remember I accidentaly had a clone (you can see it in one of the pics) but when I got rid of it someone else signed on so it didn't change the record if I recall correctly. I'm happy to be a part of history
  13. Jason's BATs & Tutorials

This is the rest of the large train station. I was origonally going to do something different with the roof, but it wasn't working out so I did that instead. There still LOD work to do, as well as some more details. I'm also going to make the roof look less like an oil spill. Kwakelaar: What do you mean by out of proportion? Lord_Bertrum: I think I understand what you mean. That's what the Grand Train Station () is going to be.
  14. Superstar and Zelgadis are Moderators!

Sometimes internet admins are more like super moderators than actual admins... Wikipedia says administration is the universal process of efficiently organizing people and resources so to direct activities toward common goals and objectives. A moderators job is to enforce rules and micro-manage things. It seems like Simtropolis expects the admins to be admins and super moderators, and I'm glad that's changing. ... and congradulations to the new moderators!
  15. Consolidated Edison Building

Unfortunatly the texturing makes the building not fit in with the maxis buildings.
  16. Show us your Downtown!

That is ultra cool. I'm guessing you used the edit-transform tools? I thought of doing that once but when I thought about it there was some problems so I didn't do it.
  17. Rebuilding New Orleans

#2 Global warming is a complete farce there is no scientific evidence that we are causing global warming. The planet goes through it's natural stages and we pee-ons can not change them or alter them. This is not the most active hurricane season on record. I'd hate to bring this thread even more off topic, but that's just plain wrong. lol. Yes, the planet does have it's phases, but right now it is supposed to be getting colder (we are going into another ice age). Secondly, we know that the gasses we emit enhance the greenhouse effect and we know that we are emiting alot of gasses. On every single study on the subject there is a correlation. The we're not doing it, it's doing it by itself attitude is one of the reasons we have environmental problems in the first place. Back on topic. I think that only the most culturaly and economicly significant parts should be protected by a new levee. With less area to cover more money could be spent on each section. Everything else below sea level should not be protected, but could be built like a venice untill more funds are available for more walls. Preserve what you can with the resources you have. Whatever happens there shouldn't be any new development in the flood zone, a 2nd downtown should be formed in a safe area. I'm not familiar with the geography of the city though so I don't know if any of this is practical. But imo if you knowlingly live in a danger zone like that you should be able to accept the concequences and you should have a plan. long post!
  18. Jason's BATs & Tutorials

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean two 2x2 sections connected with a lower section? Like __[]--[]__ ? However, after this I might make a Grand Train Station which will be the same thing as a large train station, but with two tiles of open lobby and a small office. The large train station is a 2x4 with two train tracks, and the grand would be 4x4 still with 2 train tracks. I'll post pictures of it when I make it.
  19. SFBT Microwave Power Plant by Stolloss

VERY cool! I don't know why I didn't download this when it came out. imo the plop cost should be higher and the monthly cost should be lower, but that's ok.
  20. Jason's BATs & Tutorials

It looks like the Small Train Station is more popular than the Medium Sized Train Station. I thought it would be the other way around, but I guess not! The Large Train Station (do you like my creative names?) will probably be done in a few weeks depending on how lazy I am and how elaborate I make it. The Detroit Free Press building has had a little bit of texture work. Also, my version was too big, so I scaled it down. The building is about 60 meters wide in real life, and that convieniently works out to 4 tiles wide. It's 3 tiles deep. It looks really puney compared to the maxis buildings which is too bad becuase in real life it is not! Edit:
  21. Medium Sized Train Station

Cool! And Detroit has mass transportation, even better! :)
  22. Small Train Station

If anyone else starts having problems with the transit textures try removing my station. But don't be afraid to try the station; only one person (out of 1,000+) has reported any problems.
  23. Small Train Station

I'm sorry to hear about it messing up the other transit textures (certain transit textures dissapeared for those who didn't read the thread). I'm not sure why my station would do that since it's all pretty standard.
  24. Medium Sized Train Station

There is something you need to download from the official site in order to see night lights on custom BATs. Thanks for the comments everyone, I'll keep them in mind when making the next station.
  25. 3 Houses

Some custom props or BATs must be conflicting with the houses. Everything in the lot is standard with the lot editor.
