Anyways, I plan on recreating the city of Buffalo as close to real-world scale as I possibly can over the next few months. I will be your tour guide during this trip to The Queen city. Let's go over some history of the early ages of this city. -News and Updates Working on Grand Isand road layout. 90% complete -Basic history The Village of Buffalo was originally surveyed and laid out for the Holland Land Company in 1804 by Joseph Ellicott. Joseph Ellicott, brother of Pierre L'Enfant's assistant in the laying out of Washington, D.C. came to divide out in 1797 the enormous tract of land that had been purchased by the Holland Land Company. This illustrates the gigantic amount of effort required in the survey project, at least seven years of hardships in laying out the basic design of Western New York. Much of his work exists to this day, such as the pattern of streets shooting out from Niagara Square, most of the city's main thouroughfares. The village developed relatively slowly until the war of 1812. Buffalo became a Military Resort. In December, 1813, the place was entered by the British and Indians, and every building but two was burnt. Many citizens were taken as captives to Montreal and most of the rest fled to avoid capture. The loss and destruction of property wasn't too bad considering Buffalo had yet to become involved with the current municipal responsibilities and facilities it has today, but it greatly effected the citizens. The rebuilding of Buffalo was a painstaking task due to a lack of descent transportation from it's remote markets. It was not until the construction of the Erie Canal in 1819 that Buffalo would transform into one of the worlds largest markets. The Canal wouldn't help Buffalo because Buffalo had no harbor at the time, so you guessed it, one was built. Buffalo now had an excellent harbor for the many wharves storehouses and supporting facilities which quickly developed. The Erie Canal had brought great prosperity to the small town which then began to grow in giant bounds. April 20th, 1832. Buffalo has officialy become recognized as a city.

Suburban sprawl is defanatley a pain. I know what you mean about 5 star resorts right next to the ghetto. Any shops in this area have bars over the windows. Usually at least two murders per week here. And about industry, Buffalo's left too, helping fuel the decay. Two words- East Buffalo. (Of course Buffalo, thats all I ever talk about ) This city has been hit hard by urban decay. So many failed revitalization projects... (off site hosted img) align=baseline> On a good side, the enviornment improved with the loss of the steel industry. Now ranked 3rd cleanest city in the nation. Buffalo is like a mini-version of Philadelphia.

Excellent work on this CJ I see! That square with the statue is amazing! Nice work with the placement of all those lots, it really spices up your city! Its all the little things you included that make this CJ so great. Keep up the work, I hope to see more soon. Reminds me of the local Ames that closed a few years ago in my home town when the company died.

Update 8/28/05 Grand Island road layout complete! -Grand Island is approximatley the size of manhattan -Home of Fuccillo, the HUGE guy! Until I get more pictures, in the meantime I will do research on the Amigone funeral home in tonnawanda (sheridan drive). Would be a simple BAT project for me to work on when I am bored. Your downtown is spectacular, and those diagnols look great in it. Nice city addition!

Cross looks much better then the first time I saw it.

I also know shamefully little about the city, other then it was once one of the biggest most powerful cities in the US, until 1960 where it made probably the most tramatic turn in economy any city ever had in history. Damn St lawerence seaway!! Anyways, thanks for bumping up my thread lol. Sorry for the lack of updates, I just have such little interest in Grand island, and the odd shape of the island is giving me a headache! Let alone beaver island park's road layout.

Great job! I agree that the brick texture makes the building look a little off though, mostly around the hanger.

Nice work on the collage Glenni. I esspecially like the night light work. All I can suggest is adding more furnature, maybe desks or something on some of the lower floors. Can't wait until this is released.

Well I have decided I am not experienced enough to work on the Key towers, so instead I will make M&T bank tower. I know one is already released, but this structure is nice and squared, so it is something I can handle. Sorry jsieczka , you did a nice job on it, a great job actually, but I think more detail was needed. When you scroll up and down it looks like its spinning! No it's not just you, it indeed looks like a drill bit. Yeah, looks nice, but would be an eyesore in chicago. What ever happened to art deco!
