  1. I'm working on my custom Paris Simcity and since I am downloading a lot of custom content, I want to keep my plugins folder under control. I'm installing only the custom BAT's/buildings I need as I start working on different segments of the city. I want to know if it's possible to uninstall/disable the Maxis landmarks/rewards. There are quite a few of them, so I figure they are hogging up some memory to load when I won't be using them. I already have the mod to disable growable Maxis buildings. That's not what I'm looking for.
  2. Oh thank you a million times for the link to that program, Nonny Moose! I've been working on a custom Paris map using Digital Elevation Map data according to the tutorials below. Using Photoshop, I kept adjusting my brightness levels, but SimCity was giving me really blocky results. It looks like this program created a great map on the first try, and I just need to tweak it a little. Danicobrasqb12--if you want to get a little technical with creating custom maps, here are some in-depth tutorials. Probably the first one is the simplest explanation for how to make a custom map, using a graphics editing program like Photoshop or GIMP. Basically, you create a grayscale image, and you want your water areas very dark gray, nearly black, and your highest areas to be light gray to white. I'm working on creating a real-life based map of Paris, so you can get crazy and download real elevation levels for anywhere in the world! The second two links show how to do this. (Images are broken for the second one, sadly.) http://www.sc4ever.com/knowledge/showarticle.cfm?id=1103 http://myhome.starstream.net/mfox/favorite.htm http://www.wuphonsreach.org/Games/SimCity4/HbgPA/creation-Js-instructions.shtml
  3. Learning the Ropes

Thanks for the link to the buildings list. I have a lot of them, but it's nice to have a neat and organized list.   I do have the Block Maxis mod, just haven't installed it yet. I kind of jumped the gun and was like, I wanna see some life! LOL So I zoned a few areas.   Any specific tips for what areas I should terraform? I like the map but the river edges are really blah to me. Too blocky. I was thinking of looking at some of the Simpeg mods for the river banks.
  4. Learning the Ropes

So I've been a fan of SimCity since the grand old days of yore, otherwise known as the 1990's. SimCity2000 was a revolution to me, and I spent long nights building my cities. I was so into it, I even purchased the SC2000 strategy guide and read it cover to cover. Around 2012, I purchased SimCity4 off when the Origin website was running a sale. I installed it, played a few times, then promptly forgot about it. After several years away from the game, I recently rediscovered SimCity at the end of 2014. I got back into playing the game, and went online to see what fabulous new strategies existed, since SC4 was much more intense than my previous SC2000 experience. How surprised was I to find out that SC4 could not only be modded, but there was still a thriving online following for the game! After much exploring and reading about the mods available, I tried out a few and was pleasantly surprised. These game modders really improved the game and took it much further than Maxis ever had. I promptly installed the much-touted NAM (Network Add-on Mod) and RHW (Real Highway) mods. Now here was a brand new challenge set before me--mastering the intricacies of building highways and making the Sims use them! After a lot of frustration, demolishing, and rebuilding, I managed to build a decent size city of 150K Sims with a working ring highway. Then I explored adding in railway lines to compliment the highway, and my Sims loved the train. So many possibilities! (I still remembered the days when building a railway in SC2000 would all but bankrupt your city, and few if any Sims cared to use it.) With the NAM and RHW conquered, I moved on to try out differing garbage solution mods, anti-pollution mods, and modified power plants. So much power! So many praises for my SimMayor! I was thrilled when my cities were becoming large enough in population for brand new, never-before-seen buildings to pop up. But it wasn't enough...just look at all these blasé Maxis buildings. Another Posh Villa? *yawn* Here comes still one more JEK Equestrian Marketplace? *shakes head* What ELSE can I do to my game? Then I discovered the vast array of BATs--custom build buildings. And then came the barrage of buildings from my favorite place in the world--Paris! Could it be possible that people were actually recreating entire real-life cities within SimCity? Why, yes, it was not just possible but really happening! And so I started collecting all the possible bits and pieces to recreate my own Sim version of my favorite city. The list of BATs and mods is long and exhausting. I soon found that for every BAT, there were 1-2, if not 10, required "dependencies", or files to make the BATs render properly. So far, I have installed a wonderful Paris map by drunkenapple, and several residential/commercial buildings. I decided to start my city in the heart of Paris--the Ile de Cité--and build outwards. I quickly found out that Paris is oriented in such a way that nearly all the buildings and streets sit on a diagonal. So began my adventures with diagonal streets and FAR - fractionally angled roads. I built a very small part of the Ile, and plopped the pretty Sainte Chapelle (just for kicks). Now I'm gathering further BATs, installing dependencies and working on keeping all of this mish-mash of files organized. It's a very small start, but so much fun!
  5. Looking for Dependencies

Thank you! I have the other two texture volumes installed already for other lots. I'm working on a Paris region and I think I'm in dependencies hell! Ha!
  6. Shmails Props Farm1

Thanks, I was looking for this to go with the La Bretonne Haricot Vert farm. It should be noted that the file "Shmails Farm Props1" must be renamed to "Shmails Farm Props1.dat".
  7. Can anyone help me find "PropPak_gsh_Vol1.dat" and "PropPak_mjb_TreesShrubsAndFlowers02.dat" or the files that have superceded them? I would like to install the cute Haricot Vert farm found here: (Found the MJB pack to be part of BSC MEGA Props - SG Vol 01 (v1.0)) I think!)
  8. Problems with Fractionally Angled Roads

Actually I am using drunkapple's map. I used SC4Mapper to create the region, per directions included with the file. Did I do something wrong?
  9. Problems with Fractionally Angled Roads

Okay, got it! I'm building my collection.
  10. La Bretonne Mustard Seed Rape Farm

Correction, found the prop packs: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=407 https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2422
  11. La Bretonne Mustard Seed Rape Farm

I love this farm, but am having a hard time finding the dependencies: PropPak_mjb_TreesShrubsAndFlowers01.dat PropPak_mjb_TreesShrubsAndFlowers02.dat   Textures: Pegasus pmiller19574
  12. Problems with Fractionally Angled Roads

That's a great inspiration picture! Like I said, I'm not overly concerned about getting every street on the map, and perfectly aligned. I'm more about building a Paris-esque city. LOL I want to incorporate all of the major landmarks, plus some cool BATs and landscaping stuff. On a related note--are there any like building packages to swap out for the growable houses/businesses/industries? I've collected quite a few different buildings that are growable as commerce or residential. I know I can change between the overall built-in building styles (Chicago, Boston, modern Europe), but do any custom sets exist, or do you just have to acquire a large number of BATs? Am I making sense??
  13. Problems with Fractionally Angled Roads

I did take a look at the NAM manual, but I just don't find it super helpful, what with all those abbreviations for things! I think I'm getting the hang of it. Here's where I'm at now. Those roads are much straighter! I'm not going for an exact replica of Paris, but a "Paris-esque" city.
  14. Problems with Fractionally Angled Roads

Ha! And my Nonny Moose who usually has all the answers has nothing. That must mean I'm really doomed! Well, I forgot about draggable FAR, so I'm playing with that in a sandbox tile. I can see it is much easier to start with that, then add puzzle pieces as/if needed. This draggable stuff needs lots of room for mistakes, though! Are there any tutorials, per chance? I found a youtube video by MandelSoft, but it is pre-release for draggable FAR, and really just a demo, not a tutorial for use.
  15. So I'm starting slowly on my masterpiece--a Simcity Paris! I've downloaded tons of buildings and cool stuff, and am installing them slowly, piece by piece. So far I have a grand Paris map, some steps (for Montmartre area), 1 or 2 BAT buildings, and the churches of Sainte Chapelle and Notre Dame. I've found out quickly that Paris is a tough city to tackle, which I think I remember reading about when I was downloading buildings. The way the map is turned, it makes most of the streets run diagonally. I've decided to start on the Ile de Cité as my first tile to build up. This is where those two churches are located. In short, I'm having a terrible time building roads that are even a close approximation to correct! I've installed NAM and have been using it for some months, but fractionally-angled roads are a headache for me. I don't understand how to integrate them. If I plop down a piece of FAR, it seems like there is no way to connect it at the ends! I can't drag road into or out of it. I've attached an image. The road at the far right on the island is what I'm talking about. It won't connect! I started just dragging out streets and using diagonal streets, but I don't like it.
