I heard that she might have been suicidal and deliberately drover her car into the crowd. So even if there are murder charges, she might plead insanity.

^Beautiful! I love Italy--especially Rome.

Have you? Or have you seen a war that the West in its infinite wisdom decided to name a world war? Well, if you look at my profile, you will see that I was born in 1937. What was going on in 1939-1945 could hardly be called a League of Nations Police Action, now could it? Not everyone on this site is contemporary with the PC. Really? Wow...I knew you were older than me, but I didn't know you were 63 years older. Just goes to show you the variety of people who post online.

Survey of Operating System Awareness
MintberryCrunch replied to A Nonny Moose's topic in General Off-Topic
I'd say No, Yes, No, No. I don't know all the internals. I don't know how to program, and ask me what a "kernel" is and I'll clam up. But I know more advanced stuff than most of my friends and have even been paid in the past to solve computer problems. I've also built my own desktop, and I use Windows, OS X, and Ubuntu Linux. I've solved problems that even my dad, who's been using computers for decades, didn't know how to solve. -
I also read that a number of Swedish asylum centers have been victims of arson recently. There are people reacting extremely to the increased influx of immigrants. Anders Brevik had similar motivations in Norway.

Daesh (formerly IS/ISIS/ISIL): New Barbarians at the Gate.

Fascinating read. It's interesting to see the motivations behind what these people do. -
I was looking through the "Shows us your region" thread and it seems like most people's regions are either entirely flat, or if they have hills and mountains, the cities aren't built on them. My current region is just the default Timbuktu region with some tile sizes changed--so it's pretty hilly overall and many of my cities are on hills (many of the "downtown grids" in some areas have steep streets like in San Francisco). Obviously it's easier to get the zone shapes you want on flat land, but does anyone else build on hilly land?

The story is now starting to sound like the teen was beaten because he expressed a desire to leave the group: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2015/10/16/teen-beaten-to-death-at-reclusive-n-y-church-wanted-out-police-say/ Classic cult behavior.

A number of major mudslides have happened in northern Los Angeles County lately, enough to bury parts of I-5. Although mudslides can happen in normal years, the drought makes them more likely to occur when heavy rains do finally fall. -
Eh, the thing about Westboro is they're all talk. These people on the other hand are actually scary because they add a physical element to their crazy. I think we can also learn from examples like this and Westboro that calling yourself a Christian doesn't mean you actually are one.

SimCity 4 vs SimCity 5 (2013)
MintberryCrunch replied to maximusmaximillion's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I think that's part of why I prefer it to these "Street-level 3D" games like CS. I'd rather see the city as a whole, looking at it like a map. That's why I like looking at the region view so much. As a kid, I was always making maps of fictional cities and one of the best gifts I ever received was a big map book of Los Angeles County. So playing this game is the natural extension of all of that for me -

Just finished watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Amazing. One of the best anime series I've ever seen. -

SimCity 4 vs SimCity 5 (2013)
MintberryCrunch replied to maximusmaximillion's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I'm lucky that I only started playing SC4 in 2014, because to me, it's still kind of new and I have no desire to replace it with another game. I honestly do not care for these "3D" games with cartoonish graphics (like SC2013 and CSL) and I'm not sure why they have become the standard. I would love to see an update to SC4 with the same type of gameplay, but I know that'll never happen. Oh well, I have a feeling SC4 will keep me entertained for a long time -
Two campus shootings today. One at Northern Arizona University and one at Texas Southern University. Both reported one person dead. http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-two-shot-texas-southern-20151009-story.html http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/10/09/us-usa-shooting-arizona-idUSKCN0S317G20151009 So...yeah...

Yeah sorry about that. I actually had bookmarked a page that said that exact information and I remembered reading it before too (just never did it). But thanks anyway -

It's difficult to go after the "root cause". Almost all of these shooters are mentally ill in some way or another, and the way that mental illness manifests itself is different from shooter to shooter. They may be filled with wild delusions of being a "god of men" (Eliot Roger), or they may perceive themselves as victims of a racist and homophobic system (Vester Flanagan) or they may see themselves as protecting white women from violent black men (Dylan Roof). And some of them seem completely random (James Holmes). The variety of the kinds of delusions and beliefs these people have makes it hard to target one "root cause". Already we're finding out this Mercer guy was interested in white supremacy, the posthumous fame you achieve from a mass killing, and asking people about their religion. Either way, these people almost always plan these attacks in advance, they're often loners with history of mental illness, and they're often young men. There are sometimes more clear signs, but the problem is people either don't see those signs that these people might be violent or they see the signs and misinterpret or ignore them.

Desktop.. Everyone has one of these!
MintberryCrunch replied to The Milkman's topic in General Off-Topic
I know, there's too many. They just have built up over time. I haven't gone through them in a while. There are definitely some I could put in folders and clean up the desktop space a little. -
Thanks! The transitions between city tiles are all pretty good except for between Viveros and Puerta Vista. Puerta Vista is a small town, mostly forest. Viveros is a huge metropolis. So on the satellite view it looks a little "abrupt". But the others are all pretty smooth.

Did someone test playing SimCity 4 on Windows 10?

That's Yellowstone, not Yosemite The other Y-national park As a Californian, I love the California-themed names. But come on, when are they going to create OS XI? Or is that just never going to happen? But I guess we'll find out after Version 10.100
