  1. And several of the other sites that were so quick out of the gate with their glowing reviews have steadily dropped the scores.
  2. Bad day for PC gaming

Polygon review score has steadily dropped from 9.5 to 8 and is now sitting at a 4... http://www.polygon.com/game/simcity-2013/2630
  3. My brain almost cannot cope with this irony.
  4. You do realize they're going to make a fortune on this game, right? The percentage of gamers who actually pay attention to message boards, buy games on day one, and even know what DRM means is a TINY amount compared to the size of the Sims fanbase as a whole. If they can get the gross server issues worked out within a week (and I'm betting they will), most of their customers won't even know about this initial hiccup. So yeah, I'm sure they're worried about your idea of karmic justice... Oh but this epic failure is going far, far beyond a few message boards. You know what they say about how any press is good press? not always.
  5. It has already been explained that the development costs of making a separate completely off-line mode was too much and that Maxis wanted to focus their resources on other things. then they reap what they sow. And a more deserved reaping I cannot imagine.
  6. Here's the answer: don't make people who aren't interested in multiplayer clog up your servers by requiring them to be online as well.
  7. It is surprising even me. I was hoping that this would happen because of the design decisions that they stubbornly went ahead with despite all of the opposition but I never would have dreamed the problems would be as catastrophic as they are. Karma.
  8. welcome to multiplayer...
  9. nope. they designed it with this requirement. the fault is theirs.
  10. yup. Here's a clue: don't make people who couldn't give a rip about multiplayer have to log on to a server to play and voila! your server issues are fixed.
  11. Why shouldn't these issues be taken into account? they are part of the game. when you design a game to require server access and can't provide the service that should absolutely be a black mark against you in a game review.
  12. Creating the Regions of SimCity

Pigula...he's the one who actually claimed in an interview that they made all of the changes everyone is upset about at the behest of fans...
  13. absolutely. stop buying their games. anyone who is now complaining about the issues plaguing SimCity never should have bought the game in the first place because of the requirement to connect to a server whether you wanted to play multiplayer or not. That is just what happens when you have a server-based game.
  14. Is SimCity that bad?

Whatever dude. You got a reason to go personal? 5 posts and you make your conclusions based on profile photos... says more about your own level of retardness. Where were the Moderators when this happened? Dude came outta nowhere on Nique. never mind...
  15. Who would have thought...

Well, actually Monte Cristo didn't listen either...they went off the rails with their multiplayer city-building MMO nonsense....leaving the game pretty flawed when they went belly up. I do agree, however, that with much of what the modders have been able to do with Cities XL, people who enjoy the kind of city-building that many of the members of this site enjoyed with SimCity 4 will find more to like in Cities XL than the new SimCity.
  16. This isn't a new thing. It happens all the time, especially with MMO's and other games with an always-online requirement. That being said, this really sounds like the kind of thing they should have fixed BEFORE release. you're right. It's one of the downsides of a server-based game that people who say "oh i don't care" aren't even thinking about.
  17. Unfortunately I doubt EA will take this as a lesson to be learned. The people at the top of the corporation are obviously on board with the whole anti-piracy thing.. online-only DRM will probably stay and they'll increase the number of servers find some other way to alleviate launch day troubles. they won't take it as a lesson to be learned until people stop buying games that ship with this garbage requirement.
  18. Bravo! I find this unbelievable as well.
  19. Price isn't the issue for me...it's everything else you mentioned.
  20. just as reliable as anywhere else i suppose.
  21. the game shouldn't have been designed in such a way as to present players with these problems in the first place.
  22. PcMag.com: SimCity Players Overload Origin Servers

yeah there won't be any issues with a game that requires a server to play...online-only is no problem right? seriously...anyone who didn't see this coming needs their head examined.
  23. didn't see the video but I can imagine. pretty much playing out exactly how I would have predicted.
  24. no one has a problem with that. there are just no other options for a previously single-player game that didn't require an internet connection.
