Not Receiving Subscription Emails
aldara6166 replied to aldara6166's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Thanks Dirk...based on your reply, I think I see what is happening now. I got some updates initially, but largely nothing after that. I read the email updates, but didn't visit those threads. So, basically to keep it all coming I need to read the email update but at the very least click the link to the thread so that the server knows to send me another email next time there is an update... Is that correct thinking? -

Not Receiving Subscription Emails
aldara6166 replied to aldara6166's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Greg - Nope...I'm referring to all of my NEW subscriptions...I had procrastinated in deleting old emails just prior to SimTropolis 4.0 going down...so I just copy and pasted titles in the search function to subscribe to all my favorite threads once SimTropolis 5.0 was up... guess in this case procrastination was a good thing. Constantina - No...SimTropolis emails don't come in as spam...they never have. Plus, I have Gmail through Google which has a Spam Inbox...every spam that comes through shows when it does...so, for example you might see Inbox - 6 Spam - 1. -

It also works just fine, regardless if there are pics or not if you hide the left side bar.

*pokes head through door* *walks in and takes a seat at the bar* Hmmm...never been to this place before...it looks nice. I may have to take in a quick frame or two of bowling while I'm here... I'm not much on beer, but does anyone know how to make a Buterscotch Collins? -
John, Great work my friend...now that Simtropolis is back, I can't wait to see more!! Keep em coming...

trying to find an e-3c hawkeye prop
aldara6166 replied to SHADD0W09's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
If you search the internet for free .3DS models, you will get quite a few sites. You can download the models you like and use the Import feature in the BAT to bring the model in. You will need to texture it yourself in most instances, but at least you can get the props you want. Also, pay attention to scale as you may need to resize the model as well. -

Of Railyards and Steel Mills
aldara6166 replied to north country dude's topic in SC4 - Custom Content
NCD, First off, let me start by complimenting you on your undertaking... Next, the purpose of my post...I like what you did but did not download these lots...this is simply because I found their size to be too big. Now...here is my recomendation on how to fix that. This idea comes from Smith Inc Railyard 5 lots ver. 2 by wodsworth2. This is another very large rail facility...HOWEVER...wodsworth2 broke the facility in to 5 seperate modules that, when plopped side-by-side form a rather large unit. Here are the pics from the release on the STEX. You could do something very similar to this. I was thinking about it, and from what I can come up with so far you can connect the lots to each other in one of 2 ways. The first method could be just the same as how wodsworth2 did it...connect the lots to each other outside of the facility with rails that are transit enabled to run through each lot. The second method could be if you wanted to connect the lots within each... You would have to do the transit enabling but also use overhanging props. This is because transit enabling requires one blank space where the transit network enters the lot...you can have the props overhang in to this open space to give the lots the resemblence of one whole unit when plopped next to each other. Hope that helps...like I said, I like what you did but I currently use wodsworth2's set because of it being modular...if I want the whole thing I build the whole thing...if I don't want the whole thing or I'm lacking in space, I only build what I want. Great work so far though... keep em coming... -

Date: 2/8/2006 5:20:25 PM Author: aleking the excavators are wayyyy to big in the game they look kinda silly imoquote> I kind of thought that they looked good...after hearing (reading) this conversation I thought I'd do some digging on the internet and here is what I came up with. If you look closely at this picture...you'll see in the upper right corner a regular size crane apparatus. Also, notice that these are basically used to mine an entire layer of a strip mine at one time. You can see the tool markings from the wheel itself along each layer of the mine in the background. Next, consider these pictures that I found at http://www.raypfob.com/stuff.htm ... Here is a description of this monster found at that site... Built by Krupp, seen here crossing a federal highway in Germany en route to its destination (an open-pit coal mine), it is cheaper to move the thing like this, than to construct or re-assemble on-site. The mover stands at over 311 feet tall and is over 705 feet long. It weighs over 45,500 tons (yes that's 45 thousand tons!) Cost $100 million USD, took 5 years to design & manufacture and 5 years to assemble. It only requires 5 people to operate it. The Bucket Wheel is over 70 feet in diameter with 20 buckets, each of which can hold over 530 cubic feet of material. A 6-foot man can stand up inside one of the buckets. It moves on 12 crawlers (each is 12 feet wide, 7'-10 high and 46 feet long). There are 8 crawlers in front and 4 in back. It has a maximum speed of 1 mile in 3 hours (1/3 mile/hour). It can remove over 76,455 cu! bic meters (100,000 large dump trucks at 40Yds. each of overburden per day. So...based on all of that...I would say that SOMY has the scale for this thing dead spot on! Just thought I'd throw my 2-cents in to the ring to settle it all. -

The can be found by doing a search for Jeronij (3rd page of results) or by clicking here . I recommend searching because he has a lot of other great stuff that are really innovative and change to the game.

JayS, First off, let me say that I really like what you are doing here. I've follow (and lurked) from your first post and I like the direction you are going with this... With that said, may I make a constructive suggestion? I know that alot of people have released shore conforming sea walls and that is not the direction you are going with this project... HOWEVER ... 1) If you switch to a shore conforming sea walls set, you can limit your set to: 1 tile long straight piece 1 tile long straight piece with round observation deck 3 tile long straight piece 3 tile long straight piece with round observation deck Oter corner with round observation deck Oter corner with diagonal observation deck Inner corner with round observation deck Inner corner with diagonal observation deckDoing things in this fashion limits you to an 8-piece release. If you wanted to go 1 step further, to give the functionality of a jetty, you could also release: T intersection with round observation deck T intersection with diagonal observation deck 4-way intersection with round observation deck 4-way intersection with diagonal observation deckThis only increases the set to 12 pieces. You can still make the roadways with a little terraforming. And, if you decide to go with diagonal instead of round observation decks or vice-versa, the set size is cut in half to 6. 2) This would not only allow you to cater to the people making jetties, but also allow you to target the market of people looking for conforming sea walls. I think this would definitely open you up to more downloads and more exposure for future projects. Ok...those are my constructive comments. I personally like the newer, darker stone texture...but, it would look even better if you could somehow add some green to it in the form of algae climbing the walls from the water line...the set might also look pretty good if you added some sort of drainage pipes coming out of the walls...this would be present in real life, especially with a jetty roadway...the rain water needs somewhere to go... To illustrate my concept, here are a few pictures for you...the first two are taken from GMAX, and the third is from the internet...in the third picture, you can see the pipe coming out of the wall about half-way down the slope. This isn't exactly what I have done in GMAX, but it gives you the idea... I've been nice enough to attach the .GMAX file to this post for you. You can do with it what you wish...I really like this set and I want to see it on the STEX as soon as possible, and if I can help that then so be it. Like I said, great job...can't wait to see this set released... Keep em coming...

John, As I said to Dan and others, I first must appologize for now posting in several updates. I have been busy with all kinds of RLS while still trying to do a CJ, RJM Design projects, the MAPP, etc. You plan and execute a wonderful CJ. How you terraform your CJ is probably your best feature. I wish I could say more...but I can't say enough. It is all so great...so I'll just pause to say keep em coming!

3D Studio Max BAT Version 2 Released !!
aldara6166 replied to GouRou's topic in SC4 BAT & Lot Workshop
Date: 1/7/2006 10:48:36 AM Author: J.O. Nope, that is not an install issue, 3dsmax 8 apparently is incompatible with bat4max. Guess we'll need to use Max7 (which works like a charm) or older. quote> Man...this completely sucks!! So, I have a program that is basically worthless. I mean, I can export to .3DS and import in to the BAT and all...but I hate to do it that way. Wish there was some way I could get a full version of Max7... -
Jeroni, Well, it is official...I now need to buy one of Microsoft's new waterproof keyboards thanks to you...I have drooled all over my keyboard so much so that I'm not able to type. This is actually going through a microphone through voice recognition software! Seriously though, your BAT skills have now far outmatched mine and most others on the STEX these days. These latest creations are AWESOMELY EXCELLENT! What would really look good, is if I made some sort of new port that was a combination between my Intermodal Shipping Depot and a regular seaport. That would be awesome, especially if you and I released it together and had your ships showing up randomly throughout the day!! AWESOME IDEA!! sloppet, Double post huh...suuuuuuuuuuuure. Great work Jeroni... keep em coming!

John my friend...another update in the books. And this one is just as good as all of the others! The entertainment district has just enough additional zones built in to really make it functional. All of the restaurants (which may I say were good selections), the residential high-wealth condos, the regular theatre, all of it is just great. The whole area just looks great...you and I will have to meet at the Hard Rock Cafe - Anduin Valley to have a few drinks. I feel like doing some drunken dancing...haven't done that in a while! Great work my friend...good luck in the new year... keep em coming!
