Evidence of proper water physics in SC5?
Kootenay4 posted a topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Fresh surface water (rivers, lakes above sea level) has been my top wanted feature for SimCity since forever. Recently I stumbled across some things that seemed to hint that this would be present in the game (OMFG YES!!!) but upon further research, I couldn't find anything else. First and most clearly here: http://www.wired.co....hind-the-scenes "The first is a hugely refined environmental system... Gravity affects water, forcing it to run downhill and pool naturally." And: http://www.treehugge...-your-life.html "...coal dirtied water shall travel downstream..." clearly implies the presence of flowing rivers and streams in-game. Finally here: http://simcity.wikia...in_SimCity_2013 "Hydro electric turbine ... has a risk of destroying the surrounding environment by flooding" (seems to imply the construction of a dam, which would necessitate a watercourse with changing elevation. I'm not sure if these are just typos or misinterpretations, but I am getting somewhat hopeful that there will finally be at least semi-realistic water in SC5. If anybody has more insider information on this topic, thanks in advance.- 7 Replies

maybe get your hands on the PC version and play through boot camp.

SC4 was designed for PowerPC macs, so it will be quirky or worse on the newer Intel ones. Ranging from texture issues to full-on system crashes. Hopefully you have an older mac (G4 or G5) to play the game on. The sad truth is, it'll probably keep crashing on that particular machine.

My second map, this time with mucho flat land to build a city on. This map is based on topography around Kalispell, Montana, with Glacier National Park to the northeast and Flathead Lake to the south. I may add rivers and other bodies of water in a later update. I'll also add a screenshot shortly, as the site won't let me upload the .png i have. The map is in grayscale .jpg format. -

This region is my first upload, I hope everyone enjoys playing it. The region is based on part of northwestern California, roughly between Crescent City in the north, Ukiah in the south and Redding in the east. Sea levels have risen due to global warming, leaving only the mountain ranges and a few higher altitude valleys above sea level, turning the lower reaches of the rivers into scenic fjords. I'm sure we can all agree this is one of the most difficult regions to build in. For those folks looking for a place to start, the location of the city of Hayfork on the screenshot contains a decent flat valley for building. (The cities in the screenshot aren't part of the region download.) Region is scaled down approximately 1:10 in order to fit in a standard size map. Grayscale .jpg and config.bmp files available for download.- 1 Comment
