Update/Patch 10.0: What Do You Want to See?
Xenocity replied to CapTon's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I'd just be happy if they'd fix the University issue with regional students in the next update. Why won't students from other cities visit my University after 9 updates? Also more ways in and out of cities would be great too. -
I have no issues with my OSX copy and I have been playing the game since it launched on OSX. Did you try running the game on the fastest speed for a few minutes?

I didn't know any of that. I know it's off topic but what was the SimCity 2000 and 3000 expansion packs like? I bought SimCity 3000 and never knew it even had an expansion pack. When I bought SimCity4 it was the deluxe version that included the Rush Hour expansion pack. I bought SimCity 2000 recently off Amazon (before SimCity5 came out for about $15 or $20) and it said it included all the expansion packs in it already. Btw I think I said this in another topic, I think SimCity5 will be similar to The Sims when it comes to expansion packs. If you didn't notice, CoT came out at the same time The Sims 3 futuristic expansion pack came out. I know they're making The Sims 4 now but the expansion packs still might parallel each other somehow. Simcity 2000 launched on Mac and Amiga first and within 8 months received the disaster Scenario 1 expansion pack. It also received the Simcity Urban Renewal Kit which allowed you to mod the looks of all your buildings. Simcity 2000 SE (for Special Edition) launched on Mac and PC in 1995 containing new content, music, videos, and the previous expansions Simcity 2000 Sega Saturn launched in 1996 featuring exclusive content including the futursitic building set (it is the best version of Simcity 2000) Simcity 2000 Network Edition launched on Windows only in 1996 with more content and online regional play with your friends (similar to the Simcity 2013) Simcity 2000 Playstation launched about the same time, though it had a some different buildings sets. These versions all launched within 3 years of the original release. Simcity 3000 was launched in January 1999. Simcity 3000 Unlimited launched in May 2000 for full price (14 months later) Unlimited features: Asian and European building sets Better Graphics More disasters More Maps More landmarks Real world maps Premade cities BAT tool to makae your own buildings New FMV opening sequence Unlimited was sold as an updated game instead of an expansion pack for $50

Megatower Strategy and Problems Discussion

This. Also when you get your Macbook Pro, make sure to turn off Automatic Graphic Card Switching in the Energy Saver menu. If you don't the game will incur frame rate and freezing issues. -
Question about the Airships
Xenocity replied to telekinetic's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
No they do not replace Airports in functions. Airships provide transportation for Medium and High Wealth Sims. They do not provide freight or Low Wealth Sims transportation. -
First off I should remind you that every Simcity starting with Simcity 2000 had the first expansion pack within the first 8 months of the game (Simcity 3000 being the worst offender). I would love a Rush Hour style expansion pack to give me more road and transportation options. I'd also like a map expansion pack, like Simcity 1 did. I just hope they don't crazy like they did with Simcity 1 and Simcity 2000, which both saw 4 expansion packs.

https://www.origin.com/en-us/store/deals/sale/holidaysale The Plus Edition (containing the expansion pack) is $47.99 Digital Deluxe Edition is $30 The standard version is $20 All DLC is half off The expansion pack is a few dollars off Most retailers are having the EA/Origin cash cards on sale this weekend so you can get the content much cheaper. If you live near a Meijer store (Great Lakes Regional store) tomorrow is their Santa Bucks sale (they have a few thru the end of the year). This means you can get the following at discount: $20 EA/Origin gift card at $3 off (or anything between $20-$34) $35 EA/Origin cash card at $5 off (or anything between $35 and $49) $50 EA/Origin cash card at $10 off (or anything $50+) The expansion pack is well worth the money for the most part.

Megatower Strategy and Problems Discussion
Xenocity replied to Griffon's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
First off in every Simcity game, The Sims are utterly stupid and lazy. This causes problems in each game. As for the Megatower office issue, each office type hires a set amount from each of the wealth levels. You may have a high tech ($$$) office that cannot find enough $ or $$ Sims to fill the $ and $$ jobs (All workers come from the towers). Same goes for each office type. My city suffers from a lack of $ level Sims causing my city and towers to have a work shortage leading to stuff shutting down. Last night I had 1M simoleans saved up to pay for the International airport for my region, then all of a sudden 4 of my 7 towers starting having problems with the $$ level sims. This caused my Mall levels and some offices to lose their $$ employees causing them to bleed money. This caused me to bleed 40-60k an hour trying to figure out the issue and I went bankrupt twice. What I learned was the following: Use $$ Apartment sections sparingly Use $$ Apartments in normal poor towers not elite towers (or they will whine about land value in time and move out) Use offices sparingly (generally when told to by the adviser), the sims will go to your local commerical zones for work making them profitable Park level and Park crowns help keep your Sims happy in your towers (and non tower sims as well) Put one school in a central tower and have the other towers link up to said tower Hologram marketing crown to boost renters, office workers, and mall shoppers (it will make them profitable) Use Skyclops and Tourism crowns in tourist/gambling cities (don't bother if your city isn't a tourist or gaming city) Waste reduction level produces lots of recyclables and drives down the other ulitity usage Solar Generator crowns provide tons of cheap electricity to your city/region (I like these) If your city needs water, us air scrubber crowns Make sure you have enough Controlnet Make sure you connect all the road sides of your towers to road to help with traffic flow Make one central tower to connect all others too My towers are now profitable again and my population is happy. Also don't become too dependant on your towers for electricity in case you need to shut them down for unprofitability. Never bulldoze the whole tower, just the levels (much cheaper this way to rebuild). I hope this helps Here is my current set up ( the other poor tower is hidden behind the elite tower on the left). -
Playing with no expansion in a post CoT time.
Xenocity replied to Rufus Honker IV's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Ah my main City can barely get above 120k with 7 mega towers( 6 are the elite towers) that is due to a damn hill that is narrow at the top which takes up 1/3rd of the land. Though these Mega Towers make my city profits go between -20k to 20k+ an hour depending on the hour. Over all I am wildly profitable. I also found out you can build new Arcos on the launch pad for 200k after the first one lauches. The launch pad also gives you information on your Arcos journies. -
Update/Patch 9.0: What Do You Want To See? (NOTE: OUTDATED!)
Xenocity replied to CapTon's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
This would be cool. I also would like them to raise the number of Megatowers you can have in your town or abolish the maximium all together. It would be nice if they brought back the other arcos from Simcity 2000 and made all the city owned buildings update to a futurstic version. It's just sad that city owned buildings including City Hall and parks have no future verisons at all. -
The State of Simcity - EA/Maxis speaks
Xenocity replied to baertooth's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Actually the community warped Simcity 4 to fit their wants instead of fully actualizing what Maxis intended the game to be. Also Customers rarely pay attention to what the companies do and hold the biggest company in the industry responsible. Same goes for voters in a democracy when it comes to voting. All it takes is a good marketing campaign to win them over. Just look at how Microsoft was able to save Windows 8 in the form of Windows Blue (8.1) and the Xbox One. Everyone sees the Xbox One and Windows 8.1 (Windows Blue is the new name when they launched the service pack 1) as good products and have forgotten about the awful things Microsoft did to them. Hell Microsoft convinced the public that Windows Blue is the successor to Windows 8, when it is just a service pack to Windows 8. Though I do admit Windows Blue sounds better than Windows 8. -
The State of Simcity - EA/Maxis speaks
Xenocity replied to baertooth's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Maxis did this with Simcity 4 as well. Rush Hour contained a massive patch for Simcity 4 which was supposed to fix traffic and employment issues. The patch was not released separately. Maxis released Simcity 3000 Unlimited instead of patching Simcity 3000. Each of the Simcity 2000 expansion packs contained massive patches that were never released separately. Simcity 1 started this trend at Maxis. Nearly every gaming company does this due to it being the best way to fix a game. So this is standard gaming tradition. Sheesh you'd think people who regularly play games would remember this. -

New Expansion Pack in November - Cities of Tomorrow

I'm in love with this expasion pack, especially the mega towers. -
Playing with no expansion in a post CoT time.
Xenocity replied to Rufus Honker IV's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Yeah you can benfit from playing in a region with CoT players. Sadly you won't get the Launching Arcos, because they were a preorder bonus (A great way to rid yourselfs of homeless and criminals). -
I beg to differ. The Solar Farm and International Airport are the good ones Solar Farm: provides 3,000MWs of energy at -300/hr to your cities. If you build a powerplant of comparable output, it will bankrupt you with 20k+/hr costs. The International Airport: Provides you with more tourists than the municipal airport Ships more freight out than municipal airport only costs 300/hr to operate which is cheaper than municipal The regional arcos (the launching arcos were available as a preorder in the expansion pack) do provide a boost to commerical and industry, though they strain your utilities to a breaking point. The Space center does provide for lots of tourists and you also get paid for each satellite sent into orbit.

New Expansion Pack in November - Cities of Tomorrow
Xenocity replied to macscfan's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
This came out at 12:01am ET. I've been playing for almost a half hour now. Here is the list of goods so far... -
Read this link. http://www.ign.com/wikis/simcity/Great_Works Solar farms generate 3,000MWs for each city in the region. This is more power than a fully expanded Nuclear Power Plant and much cheaper.

Progressive Insurance Set Free DLC: Flo comes to town
Xenocity replied to Xenocity's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
On my end it listed right along side all the other DLC, that is how I discovered it. -
We Americans, especially us in border states have to deal with a huge influx of Canadians at our hospitals and specialists. They regularly whine and complain about how limited their choices are and how awful the wait times are for anything outside of basic necessities. Every American is taught in school and in the news on how bad the Canadian, Japanese, and European healthcare systems are compared to the American system due to government rationing and controls. This also forces drug companies to sell their medications below market costs in these countries, causing them to huge losses which are offset by overcharging in the other countries including the U.S. It is the official explanation from the U.S. states, federal government, and the medical industry. The American Affordable Care Act was written and structured the way it was in order to survive a constitutional challenge (which it narrowly did with a 5-4 Supreme Court ruling). Millions have lost their insurance due to this law in October alone, causing a federal investigation. I'll leave it here.

Progressive Insurance Set Free DLC: Flo comes to town
Xenocity replied to Xenocity's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
It also adds business to your city as well. I just noticed today when seeing if I could preload the expansion pack. Also Airships are now $5 as well. The mini update I downloaded fixed my great works issue in my region. What a good day to power up Simcity. -
As to the OP, the last time a member of the U.S. Congress defected from their party was in 2002, to prevent the Bush Tax Cuts from passing. It ended up backfiring because it split the U.S. Senate down the middle creating a tie giving the vice president the tie breaking vote (only happens during a tie vote). We do currently have 2 independents (those not affilated with any party) serving in the Senate. But what is with all this Anti-Harper speak? We in the U.S. know him for turning Canada into a capitalist economy and liberating Candians from the socialist/communist state the liberals put in place. We also hear he will soon reform your healthcare system, allowing you guys to see the doctor of your choosing and put an end to those 30 days + wait times to get into a doctor's office or to get surgery done.

The State of Simcity - EA/Maxis speaks
Xenocity replied to baertooth's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Actually EA only released two new Simcity games for PC/MAC after Simcity 4. Simcity Societies wasn't made by Maxis, but it was made in response to all the feedback EA received regarding how compliciated Simciy 4 was for most users. Societies did receive an expansion pack. Simcity 2013 according to their July conference call is still selling strong with the majority of the users still playing the game regularly (it was posted on this site). Simcity 2013 should now be the second best selling Simcity game to date behind Simcity 3000. The reason why EA/Maxis didn't create a direct seqeul to Simcity 4 was due to the low sales coupled with the high development costs. Maxis was forced to can the other expansion packs they were working on for Simcity 4 due to the low sales of Rush Hour. Remember Simcity 4 launched on January 14th 2003 on Windows for $50 Simcity 4 Deluxe launched on September 22 2003 for $30 on Windows Rush Hour aslo launched alongside Deluxe for $20 on the same day on Windows Stuff like this only happens when your game/software is selling badly. -
Havent played in months and won't until...
Xenocity replied to Jons511's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Actually on most games that cost between $40-$60 that see physical releases have a profit margin between $10 to $25 depending on retailers. Retailers will take a bigger chucnk if they believe your game will be a modest or low seller. (this number doesn't include the in-store marketing or the buying of shelf space) Those games that are released digitally on stores such as Steam, Apple, Amazon, Origin etc... have to pay 30% -%40 of the price to the store owners. Selling a digital copy on Amazon will cost you $24 for a $60 game. Since ~60% of the total copies of Simcity 2013 were sold digitally through Origin, EA gets the full $60. Due to high development budget, server costs, maintenance/patching costs, etc... EA has only made a modest profit on Simcity 2013 according to their July conference call. Also in that conference call (which was posted on this site), the majority of the users are still regularly playing the game and user activity is increasing. As it stands Simcity 2013 is quickly becoming one of the most played online games.
