  1. Limited Single Player

But the concept of an online-only city simulator isn't a new idea. Monte Cristo tried it with CXL and failed. Perhaps EA has more marketing power to make SimCity more successful than CXL, but to me this whole situation is like deja vu. I just wish EA/Maxis would've taken notes from the CXL/Societies fiascos. I have a feeling EA/Maxis aren't trying to attract the types of gamers who would want to develop mods for SC4. The only people who would really be interested in that are people like us at Simtrop and other SC4 sites -- and the vast majority of us are against the new direction of the SimCity franchise.
  2. As opposed to the pre-teen 13 year olds... You shouldn't let a PC game get to you so much. It can't be good for your health...
  3. SimCity: Wishlists

Personally, I think water should be required for buildings to grow, like electricity is required. I agree it should be required, but I don't think it should be the mayor's job to lay the pipes. I guess my idea is similar to in SC4 how we don't have to place transmission lines for new zones unless they aren't connected to an electrified zone.
  4. SimCity: Wishlists

    1. A plethora of transportation options. In my opinion, this is one of the most intriguing aspects of SimCity. A tool like Monte Cristo had alluded to at one point, where you can choose the # of lanes on the road, if there is a median, sidewalks, etc. If not that, then many more types of roads and alternative transport options, as well as a lot of bridges to choose from. 2. Custom content, plugins, etc. 3. A complex and reasonably realistic economic system, with the ability to micromanage if you choose to (it can be optional, since not everyone likes to micromanage). 4. More control over what types of buildings will show up in your zones. It wasn't very realistic seeing mansions pop up near low-wealth residential areas. So I guess, in addition to density, let us choose the wealth of the zones as well. But as with density, just because we zone for a particular wealth, that doesn't mean the Sims will show up until the conditions warrant their arrival. 5. If it's going to be 3D, don't make it look childish or cartoony. I'm really not a fan of 3D games, but I guess it's inevitable SC will go this route. 6. No more water pipes, or at least the option to have them placed automatically with new zones. 7. Schools, museums, hospitals, etc. should cover the entire city. I can see police and fire having coverage areas, but the other civic buildings should serve the entire city. Also, hosptials shouldn't be required in every city. At least in my area, not every city/town has its own hospital.
  5. oldest SimTropolis Memory?

I remember creating the first member levels thread, asking what they were. (Local Yokel, City Slicker, and all those). It turned into a pretty long thread, with hundreds of posts. We were able to come up with a pretty complete list at the time. Unfortunately it got closed one day. I also remember helping to create the SimCityRush website. The owner, while working on a new version, closed it and SCR was no more. It was a lot of fun while it lasted though.
  6. How do you feel about the SCS announcement?

When I heard there was a new SimCity coming out, the first place I visited was back here. It's been a while since I've posted here. As expected, ST got the sneak peek at SCS, and I'd like to thank dirk and rybolton for their reviews of the game. I tend to agree with the general concensus around here. I won't be buying SCS. However, I don't see this game as the SC4 successor at all. In EA's defense, I think they put this game together because they knew, with Spore and The Sims taking up Maxis' time, a new SimCity wouldn't be out for a while. They knew no one else could match the abilities of Maxis to create a SimCity 5, so they decided to go a different route for the next game. They probably hoped that we'd accept this game and would keep us happy until SimCity 5 would come out. They knew we've been wanting a new game in the series, but unfortunately, Maxis couldn't deliver at the current time. So in an attempt to satisfy our hunger for a new game, they threw one at us hoping we'd be pleased with it. EA had no intentions of this being a successor to SC4, nor do they intend for this to be the new direction of the series. If they did, they would have called this game SimCity 5, not SimCity Societies. In my opinion, since this game had Societies attached to the name instead of a number, like all the other games in this series (except classic), EA simply viewed this as a sidetrack in the series, not a main game. Looking back years from now, we'll see SC 1, 2000, 3000, 4, and 5, as well as a couple side games like Societies. These side games were created to keep us satisfied during the long periods between the main games. Unfortunately for EA, this first sidetrack game isn't turning out too well. Maybe next time they'll think it through more. So do I view this as the end of the series or the new direction of the series? No. I see this as an attempt to keep us satisfied while Maxis works on other things. In due time, Maxis will return to SimCity and will put out SimCity5. But for now, you can either stick with SC4 or give SCS a try. I wouldn't see this as an attempt to change the series completely. I think this was just put out to keep us interested since SC5 probably won't be out for a long time. Unfortunately for EA, this project backfired on them. As I said, based the previews, I'm not interested in this game and I won't buy it. I just felt I'd give my viewpoint on this game since it seems everyone's bashing EA for putting this out, when they might have really been trying to please us in the end. Hate me if you want for defending EA; I simply wanted to offer a different view on this situation.
  7. One Liberty Place

Awesome job on One! I remember a long, long time ago I wanted someone to make it and finally someone did. Excellent job. I can't wait for Two Liberty.
  8. The Simtropolis Annuarians Club

Simtropolis Annuarian signing in. You don't have to make me one the cards. I remember a lot good times here at Simtrop. Who can forget SimCityRush also?
  9. The Leaving / Returning Thread

Thanks. I don't know how long I'll stick around though. I'll pop in out and out everyone once in a while though. I doubt I'll be able to become active again.
  10. The Leaving / Returning Thread

I didn't notice this thread when I posted my return thread, sorry . Well a few people here may remember me. I notice a lot of new people, and a lot of changes from when I was active here a long time ago. Last time I was here this place was dark-colored, looks good though. Anyway, I just started playing SC4 again a couple days ago. Uhh, I'm doing a lot better than I did last time I played (as some people may remember). Maybe I'll start a city journal or something. I have no skills with the BAT or lot editor so I'm of no help there, sorry. Well, I'm glad to be back.
  11. 1,000 Dollars?

If you'd add a few zero's to that, I'd probably buy my own private jet or ship.
  12. What is your favorite comic strip?
