I'm kinda hazy on the history of the game, but it was created by a guy named Yoot for Maxis way back in the dark ages. when Maxis basically stopped supporting it, Yoot got the rights back. I've played both in the last 10 years. They're basically the same game. There are differences I encountered, but those were more due to platform (MacOS vs IOS) than actual gameplay differences. I had a Sim Tower version I played on my 2015 MacBookPro, but after an OS upgrade, it stopped working. Then I found Yoot Tower in my iPad's App Store, so have played on it. If anyone knows of a version of either that'll play on my 2024 M4 Mac Book Pro I'd love to know! Whether it's hotel rooms, apartments, offices, whatever, click on the EVAL button. you should get a magnifying glass. (double )click on that, and it'll tell you what the problem is with the room, or whatever. common problems: too far from elevator, not enough customers, noisy neighbors, unsatisfactory conditions (usually too long to get elevator service). what I do to get new occupants is lower the rental rate on the item. That works for most problems. If you can fix the underlying problem (tweak the elevator, for example) try raising the rent again. it may be fine. Restaurant and Fast Food usually will fix themselves as the day goes on. Make them easily reachable by office staff for lunch (3 floors above lobby, one floor below, with escalators/stairs). Also, mix up the Fast Food, Restaurants, and shops on those floors so customers have to pass all of them, good for the shopping! On rainy days, they may all take a customer hit, but will be fine the next day. hope this helps.

I've played this game a lot over the years. Prima published a strategy guide and you can find it here: https://archive.org/details/sim-tower-strategy-guide That being said, it's generally better not to mix occupant types on the same floors. they can annoy each other. so you'd have floors dedicated to hotel rooms, floors for offices, and floors for restaurants, shops, and fast food places. also, the theaters and party rooms go on those floors as well. Generally, red is used to indicate businesses that aren't getting enough customers, or the tenants are dissatisfied, or hotel rooms that haven't been cleaned. hope this helps.

Going from App Store Version to Steam: now may not be necessary! (read second post)

Thank you! I was soooooo relieved! Now the fun begins. organizing the plugins, pack the ones I'm already using. Implement the ones requiring dependencies and find those. Install the NAM, which I've really missed from my windows days. Not to mention all the plugins and downloads from my last Windows installation I have saved on an external drive!- 6 Replies

Going from App Store Version to Steam: now may not be necessary! (read second post)

Update: I continued browsing the Forums tonight, and think I found my real answer: how to make JDatPacker work. Considering moving to the Steam version was an act of desperation. This afternoon, JDatPacker had seemed to work, even after the 'CodeCache' warning. but there had been no output in the target folder. I assumed this was because of the Java. In browsing tonight I discovered a post that discussed in painstaking detail a troubleshooting effort for another unhappy customer. I discovered what I had been doing wrong: my Source folder had no subfolders. So, as a Hail Mary pass, created a subdirectory for the files in the source folder and ran the packer one more time. And to my amazement, it resulted in a packed dat file in the target folder! Thanks to the wonderful people who've kept Simtropolis up and running!- 6 Replies

Going from App Store Version to Steam: now may not be necessary! (read second post)

hello! I've been away from the game for a lot of years. Played SimCity, in one form or another, for a very long time on Windows (starting with Win3.1), In 2015 I switched to Mac, and although I did start playing SimCity 4/RushHour on it, I think I got discouraged by the plug-in file limit on the App Store/Aspyre version, and just sorta gave up, I guess. Got a new MBP, M4 last month, and have really enjoyed getting familiar with the game again. But am extremely frustrated with the plug-in file limit, and the means of getting around it. I tried JDatPacker. At first couldn't get it started, had to learn how to override the OS's cautions about not trusting the source/program. Finally got it to TRY and do something. But, it turns out, I had to now install Java8. ok. did that. and now that won't even work, it seems it has run up against a "CodeCache is full' error, and has disabled itself. I tried researching what that is and how to deal with it. But everything I've found is just too far over my head to even begin to understand. I just want to play what has been my favorite game for nearly 30 years. Not learn how to be a programmer. It is my understanding that the Steam version does not have this limit. So what are the pitfalls of the Steam version? Do I have to uninstall the AppStore/Aspyre version before installing? I imagine I can just copy the plug-in folder contents I've been accumulating over the last few weeks into the new location for the Steam installation. BTW, I've really enjoyed reading everything on Simtropolis, and playing catchup. I was sorry to see some of my favorite content creators are no longer with us. Thanks for any insight anyone can provide. BTW, Steam has SC4 on sale until January 2. Ruth- 6 Replies

uh, I kinda got into mac after adding 3 iPod Touch and 4 iPads to the household. Only made sense to replace my aging XP Pro laptop with a Mac! Thanks for the reminder of sc4devotion, I'd forgotten about that site. Explains why I couldn't find certain items here on the Stex. I'll check out that link. Thank you. thanks for the explanation. Makes sense. And that word of caution about putting things in the program folder makes a lot of sense, and has kinda decided the issue for me. Thanks for your time, y'all.

I played this marvelous game on a series of Windoz computers for years. But the game got so slow and unwieldy on my last laptop a few years ago I quit playing, but missed it a lot. So late last year I bought a MacBook Pro, and my first download from the App Store was the Aspyre version. (yes, I'd read about the Steam and other versions out there. Decided to go with the simplest for now). (Nope, not going the bootcamp/parallels/wine routes if I can help it.) I'd read about the limit on the plugins folder, so when I started searching the stex for my favorite plugins from the old days, I decided to basically, wait until I missed having a plugin before I'd come download, or search through the old files I'd saved from my old setup. I quickly found an empty plugins folder under Applications/SimCity.../Show Package Contents/Game Data/Plug-ins. And for the most part, everything I've dropped in there seems to work well. Created subfolders for Mods, Lots, etc to try and keep it organized. Slowly been adding in my favorite plugins. And most recently, I've been missing the NAM. So, found the Mac installer, and obediently reading the 'read me' discovered the existence of ANOTHER plugin folder I didn't realize existed: ~/Users/username/Library/Containers/com.aspyr.simcity4.appstore/Data/Documents/SimCity 4/plugins. And, of course, it is empty. And I probably wouldn't have given it much more thought, except I discovered all of my recently created cities are in the regions folder in the same location. Not in the location where the plugins folder i've been using is located. So my questions: Should I move my plugins to the location I found today, or leave them in the one I originally found? Will the NAM work from either one? Also, if it makes a difference, I will probably be the only user on this computer playing THIS game. Thanks for any insight that will dispel the confusion.

Nice addition to the game ... but.... the KC10 belongs to the AIR FORCE. And it's primary mission is Air Refueling, transportation is secondary. How do I know this? I worked on them for 12 years. All the way from the vertical stabilizer, to the avionics bay, to the brake temp sensors, and both wing engines.
