Is This What Simcity Will Look Like?
meowza replied to jacksunny's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I bet they already have. --- Like most of you have said: Yes those graphics are nice, but don't expect that until SimCity in 2020. I don't care too much about the graphics though - bland CXL already focused on that. I'll be fine with SC as long as it looks decent for a 2013 game, and doesn't look stupid like SCS.. Anything better would be a welcomed bonus. The things I'm more concerned about are the gameplay mechanics and the way game elements realistically interact with each other. Steak looks good, but eating it is still the best part. -
Wish: Option to easily make graphics less eye poppy, and more realistic.

I would argue all of those features a within the realms of possibility - we must remember Maxis have another 7 months at least before release, and look at the stage they are already at. Just don't get disappointed incase some of your whims don't get answered. You also have to put into consideration, not just the amount of time left for development, but also the price of the game, and the amount of processing power needed. Not to mention, everything must fit together nicely so nothing seems out of place.

Part 3, Scenario 2. - In this video, we talk about how the water system works, from the pumping of the precious liquid to its distribution to your thirsty Sims. This system uses almost all the tools that our simulation engine, GlassBox, has to offer: units, maps, agents, paths and resources. Prepare for a PC upgrade. I prefer better than the recommended specs.

Looking at that list, it makes me realize the mind-boggling amount of additional features that fans demand from the guys at Maxis... It's fun to let our imaginations run wild, but let's not forget that we're still on earth.

What would you name the new SimCity?

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
If they are going to insist Origin, then I would have to find a way to block it from accessing my PC other than SC itself. Such an inconvenience... -
^ The paranoia game taken to the next level. EA definitely doesn't have the best record around. As to how I see it, the only way Maxis could avoid EA's stigma is that if they decide to leave the company, which is highly impractical and illogical at this point. So for now, we can only speculate... E3 will come soon. And they should keep their options open incase things go terribly wrong.
-
^ Conspiracy or not, the front-line responsibility has been handed over to Maxis. It's mainly their reputation on hot water now.
-
Then again, EA probably told Maxis that it must pretend that "always online" was a game feature and not a spyware mechanism. It's pretty clear that this is not "flexible". I think I should've really said "conspiracies aside"...

Surge of new articles and interviews - Some repeated info, some new. Cynical presumptions. Facts are scarce at this point - unsurprising for a game that hasn't been released.

Poll: How much would you pay for subscriptions or additions?
meowza replied to Mark Waybill's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I only want to make a one-time payment for a full game, and completely optional flavor DLCs. They better not add any forced subscription payments, or they will regret this! -

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin

It's sad to see how one feature is unduly trampling on the image of, what is supposed to be, a very promising game. -

Disasters in SimCity (2013)
meowza replied to The_City_Builder's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
^ They already confirmed that there will be no military conflict between cities or regions. Instead, "fighting" can occur at an economic level. Which in my opinion is a good thing since SC is never meant to be a war game. -
Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Maxis will do as it is told. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of EA. I doubt that Maxis is more than a studio name within EA. I say, once they get their paychecks, they should all switch out of EA and recreate the studio under the name 6AM. -
Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Until I see the need, I'll restrain myself from adding to the outcry that is already obvious. I'm complacent for now; I've laid out my cards, now it's their turn. -
^ No, you aren't forced to directly interact with other players. They already said multiple times that you can play a whole region privately for yourself. The only thing that could possibly "screw" you up is the world economy.

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
^ OT: They've been allowing SC custom content since '97, it's been a standard operating procedure since then. -
scenarios = missions? They mentioned something about purchasable "game bundles", opt-in missions, and mayor-abandoned cities that can act as some sort of playable scenarios. Most of the information right now is still obscure... Though I would like to see an indepth storyline (as opposed to DarkSpore's flat lore), separate from the sandbox mode. One that would act as a guide from beginner to pro, without making it feel like it's mandatory. A story that is flexible enough to suit various types of players, and can branch out dynamically depending on the player's actions - so it can still retain that sandbox feel (Guild Wars 2-esque).

Discussion about Always-On Connection to Origin
meowza replied to neurokirurgi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Even though I'd like to agree, having a single game with everything you need would definitely still be better. Aside from that, we've been using SC4 for too long already - and that's an understatement. They lurk and are aware of everything going on around here. How do you know that? jacksunny's most probably right.. They've hinted and said it themselves before, so I'm assuming it's true. That's the whole point. Giving EA enough eyesores and they just might listen to us. As long as it doesn't seem to be spamming.
