An Actual Urban Planner Takes On The Original SimCity
jpjoe commented on AlenRusso1976's article in News
Like it or not, he's just stating the truth. None of the simcity games are accurate to the bone, not even the new one (consult your local university). Who wants my money more? -
Waiting, waiting, waiting for the release.... shots aren't enough for me. Those do look nice nonetheless, better than nothing I suppose. ...as for the people who still don't understand. You'll get there, maybe... :kitty:

Good one!

Thanks for nothing. ST questions sucked, big time.
-
Thanks whiners.. You wasted a good opportunity. Those questions could have been much better.

Demands and questions are two different things.

Guess which one I voted for... Exactly.

An open plea to everyone critical of Maxis

[deleted, but leaving the reply since it has something useful - BL] People are not stupid and they're not blind either. Forget mods, that word is loaded. What people are seeing is at the very least EA is going to make it hard to implement 3rd party custom buildings because they want to sell DLC that are cheap and easy to produce. Making mods that extend the game require work and have higher costs to produce. Wiping out custom buildings is easy and they see it as 400-500 hours of intern work per DLC = thousands and thousands of DLC sales = massive profit per sale. If the community is making custom buildings then they're relatively very expensive DLC packs suddenly become a whole lot less valuable due to the lack of scarcity. Custom buildings is something that's been around for awhile now, if you've been paying attention. I'm not too happy about going from from the current situation to one where I'm forced to buy their content only. If you weren't there, I'll let you in on a little lesson learned during Simcity Societies. You see, EA said it was going to be the most moddable Simcity ever. They lied. They flat out lied though their teeth. Tilted Mills ended admitting that there was never any plans put into place to open up importing new models into the game for the community. That the license they had for the technology they used NEVER allowed for that in the first place. You could muck thought he XML files, but you couldn't import new buildings. You know why, because had Societies been successful, EA was going to sell expansion packs with buildings and that was the only way new models were going to be allowed into the game. And because the community couldn't make their own models to fix problems and the game didn't sell well so EA never made any expansion packs, aka GEMS, for the game, the game DIED (needlessly too as the game was actually fun when what was available XML wise was modded correctly). Which brings us back to the obvious situation with Simcity2013. So when people go off about mods, they're not dumb. It's easy to see what EA is doing and at that level, it seems so sleazy and greedy it's depressing to see it come from the group that is in charge and in control of Simcity. Doesn't make the future of Simcity seem so great. [Deleted segment; learn the way of the impersonal response... you could be the most correct person here but it won't fly unless you do it respectfully - BL] Modding will be released. Ocean mentioned it so many times that it sounds so stupid to even repeat it. When the tools get released, I personally wouldn't care too much about them anyway. It will only ruin the integrity of the original game. -
Anyone going to gamescom? (my notes from gamescom)

Thanks for posting your experience, warrior! [Deleted irrelevant, nonconstructive, and otherwise very aggressive parts of post - BL] -
500k since 2003 of mostly dead accounts. Congrats.

Cool! Another addition to my long list of SimCity wanna-be's! Can't wait for the next penny-less kid to post "This is going to be much better than SimCity!"

At E3, I walked into the Maxis booth and was immediately confronted by the most officious booth manager I've ever experienced. "Sit down", she bellowed. "No photos!", she screeched. "If I see even one camera it will be confiscated and destroyed!", and then all in one breath; "all tall people MUST sit at the back!". Nice laser focused review quote!

What if there is no snow? You would not buy the game?
-
This is what you get for posting an Ad on a site for free-loading spoiled brats.
-
Unlike before, the mods do not care about this kind of things anymore..

I like the video! But WTH?! Where are the friggin mods?? These people are flooding the front page with old news and duplicate topics!

Maxis Claiming to Listen to its "Core Base"

Again comes the issue: what you want is not always the same with what the intended general core wants. -
Maxis Claiming to Listen to its "Core Base"
jpjoe replied to nedal2001's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
In what way did they "de-mayoritized" the game? By adding deeper urban simulation aspects? So SC4's "god mode" is mayor-like? Can mayors actually call on a meteor? Are they able to have immortal lives? Click-drag a stretch of freeway from the sky and call it a day? Or do you want those features to be removed since those are very "unmayor-like"? Or is your focus solely on the density change? Which not every mayor in this world is actually allowed to moderate, and wherein we're not even sure how things will exactly operate with the new system? Why don't they add a mayoral election in the game? Why don't they add an overall governing entity, so mayors are still controlled by their state? Most mayoral decisions still have to run through alot of paper work before it is actually implemented. Do you really want those added in the game?? -
Boring CXL, SimCity wanna be, is going to fall into a never ending pit, together with all its fans. Like what happened to Monte Cristo. Including this one diehard from another site: It's reality. It's already happening. Not even its expansions nor a 75% off discount can save it.

Maxis Claiming to Listen to its "Core Base"
jpjoe replied to nedal2001's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
(Mod tried to edit out the most important part of this post. Very telling.) In SC4, you feel like a mayor and you see real cities? Visually maybe (it doesn't even look real actually). But feel? After seeing the new game, every time I play SC4 it feels more like a static board game now than a real city. Not everything about SC4 is realistic. Typical SC4 mindset. -

Building appearances are now more simulation-driven. So get ready for a major change. -
