Date:6/1/2004 3:50:33 PM Author:DuskTrooper Oooh, excellent work! BTW, how do we mod the numbers for the airports? The ILIVE tweaker does not show 'airport' in it's selections............. quote> I am NOT the authority on this, but since I just did it -- To mod the cost numbers, use Tropod's property Budget Requirements List. To mod the capacity numbers, use Trip Capacity List. In the airport pack, there are a few exemplar files at the beginning of the list, and two of them correspond to the functional airport lots. The one marked Airport (Super) goes to the Control Tower and the one marked Airport (Blank1) goes to the Tram. The above properties are in those exemplar files. I don't know the first thing about modding the actual stock game airports.

Date:6/1/2004 6:44:05 AM Author:Tropod The Budget Requirements List [0xCA271783] Property should be what you're after. And if you really want a headache and a-half Creating Additional Functional Airports &/or Seaports quote> I found that property and changed it (it wasn't where I would have first thought to look for it, it was in a different exemplar file). Thank you so much. Now the Airport Tram has a cost of 1800 simoleans, which after doing only the sightest research seems to roughly fit in with the scale of the stock airports considering the Tram capacity...but if there's a better figure, let me know. But Tropod, can you still help me with the question of airport C demand cap relief? Now, does anyone want this set or not? It seems like a big part of the community was prevented from using custom airports before because of the cost...but now it fits in more with the game. Oh yeah, and I fixed the spelling errors I saw in the original descriptions of all the lots, but I didn't change the descriptions, and I wasn't looking too hard, so I'm sure I missed some. (P.S. - I hope people don't mind that I've been double posting in here, since I'm posting hours apart with different results...)

Date:6/1/2004 2:53:21 PM Author:JEC thanks corlian. i found a good backup and managed to remodel the hard parts and the restaurant fairly quickly. i exported and unfinished draft model in-game to figure out the lot. currently it is 20 by 13 and i'm thinking of using one of peg's kits (if it is possible knowing what had happened) to fill in the river since it does not work properly over the real water. i'm also still deciding whether to keep the rail tracks or not. and still no textures. quote> Maybe it's best to leave all the edges land-based...I realize the real building was built to be on a river, but perhaps not everyone will want to (or be able to) place it next to water.

Date:6/1/2004 10:39:10 AM Author:Alkaola With pain in my hart i'm going to remove Gizmo's water flora mod You know why? Because of this:The lots/BATs are totally screwed up because you can see through the water with the flora mod. I hope Gizmo will come with an update and make the water more blue. I love the water flora mod but my choise is to remove it otherwise all other wharfs looks ugly then. Is there no possebility to make the water deep blue (medditeranean) WITH the flora mod ? Alk. quote> Starting today, all those lots now have seawalls. At least, that's what it seems like on the website. -

And if you really want a headache and a-half Creating Additional Functional Airports &/or Seaports quote> Do you mean for changing the airport (tram) cost? I can't find it, should I add it? Keep in mind, I learn fast but I know little. Also, do Joerg's airports retain the Commercial demand cap relief that normal airports have? What controls that?
-
I have edited the airport pack in the following ways: * Removed cost from all lots except the actual functioning airport lots. * Changed all the mild park effects to landmark effects (C des. instead of R). * Removed the large sections from the landmark menu, now all airport lots appear only in the airport menu. In the morning if I can figure it out I'll probably change the tram cost to something lower. Currently it is equal to the Control Tower cost. I would have removed jobs from the functional lots, but they were so few to begin with, I might as well leave it alone. Does anyone want me to upload this? I guess I'd have to get Joerg's permission, but...does anyone want this? It seems like most people who've been using the airport pack in the past must have being using money cheats to even keep the airport alive, so this might open up some opportunity to others. (There are still two lots in the pack where one's a duplicate but the description says it should be something else, which also already exists...I didn't mess with it lest I break something)

Date:6/1/2004 12:52:28 AM Author:geoff_diamond It's too damn quiet in here!!! Maybe this will spark some interest. Thoughts? Comments? quote> I like it, but that's no surprise... I usually don't like too much decoration around the foot of a building (and neither do you guys, it seems), but I feel like this building would benefit from some sort of neat plaza or fountain out front. -

RAIL TO SUBWAY DISCOVERED!!!!!!! Did you hear that everyone? Let me repeat it! RAIL TO SUBWAY DISCOVERED! lets just hope that it works with the American versians. it should though!!!! quote> More than that, there's also this: I mean, I can't imagine it's automaton-functional, and I probably won't even use it, but...only cause I didn't plan my current city with it in mind. The English version can be downloaded here: http://hide-inoki.com/bbs/levbbs/data/1076865205462023/HaS_Trst_RailToElev_Eng.SC4Lot And there's this...I don't know how functional it is... > > -
Date:12/28/2003 6:53:03 PM Author:joerg Ok this is really wierd i was able to replicate your problem but i still cant find why they are costing. In the reader nothing shows up as costing any money per month. I just dont know where it is hidden at. Mod squad members i need your help anyone know where this is hidden at? DM how can i change this in the easy tweaker. Dont feel bad comoney we all make mistakes and we were all once new aswell. quote> Did anyone ever figure this out? I've been trying to remove the costs myself, but I can't figure it out for the life of me...what is causing the airport lots to cost money? I don't use money cheats, and while I'm happy to front the monthly cost for the tower, I'm not excited about a $20k/mo airport. I have very limited modding knowledge, so it's no surprise I can't find it, but still... Also Joerg, I'm curious, why was the choice made to give the lots park effect intstead of landmark effect? Seems like buisnesses would want to be near the airport, and people wouldn't.

Date:5/30/2004 9:53:11 PM Author:Armandeus OK, here's more info I found. Convenience stores (including 7-11): http://www.geocities.jp/sim4mamo/2004mk_bat_lot_001.htm quote> What, no Seicomart? -
Date:5/29/2004 7:47:42 PM Author:JEC great news everybody, i can't load the guggenheim gmax file, so it's corrupted, hooray. -i should have a backup somewhere, but it will be at least a month old, meaning that most of the hard parts are missing. so, this makes at least bat buildings not that have become corrupted. i may be losing interest now, so the guggenheim may never be released; it happened to the sydney opera house, and now it might happen to the guggenheim. quote> Eek.. =( Good luck. I know people say this kind of thing all the time, but I think the finished Guggenheim would be the best building anyone's ever made for the game.

Can I request landmark versions of the buildings in future releases? I've been making them myself, but...I can't stand jobs in custom buildings, and I'm sure some people feel the same, and...it just takes time to turn them into landmarks. I won't die if you don't want to do it, but it'd be nice. -
I've been thinking about ANT... What if it wasn't used for transit at all? I mean, if we can't think of a good enough use, perhaps we could find a non-transit function? I bring it up because transit can be drawn diagonally when nothing else can...is there a visual detail of a city we wish we could draw diagonally? The (only) thing that comes to mind is walls.

Date:5/25/2004 4:36:02 PM Author:geoff_diamond Okay, here's what I had in mind (in a VERY cursory manner). Try to ignore the setbacks on the backside of the tower as they will probably be elimintated in some fashion. Thoughts? Basically, is this an improvement or a step backwards? quote> It's tough, I like them both for different reasons. Will it still have the base and the antennas? I'll say this, I don't dislike the boxiness at all. You're right, it doesn't give a good feeling of the height, but if you put it in a city that way and it stood next to sleeker buildings, it would look *massive* because it would be so bulky and so tall. I like the boxiness because it's very different from what most people build, and yet your design makes it look so cool. -

Date:5/20/2004 11:39:01 AM Author:geoff_diamond Thanks! But, I'm a little confused as to what you mean (about what I have in mind for it)? quote> I just meant commercial/residential, or if it's a whole building onto itself or if it's the top of something...pretty much anything, really. Looks great though. -

Date:5/20/2004 11:21:55 AM Author:geoff_diamond Phew... that was one helluva party!!! I would appreciate it if you guys hadn't let me fall asleep in the pool though! Now I look like a freakin' prune : At any rate, I decided to do some under-water batting when I woke up... anyone interested in this? quote> I can dig it (and, in fact, I do). What do you have in mind for it? -
Date:5/19/2004 12:35:03 AM Author:The Great Chozo And on a side note, a Railroad should never overpass a surface road, unless the surface road is sunk below grad, and the grad of the rail remains the same as it crosses the road. So I suggest to not waste any time on this, because just simple doesn't happen in the real world. I have never seen a rail overpass a road, and I have been to the dirtiest of industrial areas in Houston, Galveston, Texas City, and other spots around the Southeast Texas coast, and have NEVER seen this. quote> I've never seen one in all of Southeast Texas, but it makes particular sense that it wouldn't exist there because of all the space. Rail overpasses don't exist at the grade we would be using here in Simcity. What I asked for is unrealistic. But rail overpasses with much much longer grade certainly do exist. When the unrealism was first brought up, I googled it and found examples in a couple cities right away, but I've seen it myself in Chicago and New York, and if I thought hard enough I could probably come up with an example in L.A. or the countryside. I wanted it because I can't make tiny little dips in the road right next to a highway, and I can't make a road overpass with short blocks, like exist time and time again in real life. I didn't want to cut one of my cities in two because of rail traffic. Sorry for asking.

Date:5/18/2004 11:54:11 PM Author:Briman This comment is in line with those who have said the stack interchange didnt look right due to elevations. It looked kinda flat.....you would never see a railroad going over a frewway interchange. But you would see an interchange go over a railroad. Im sure there are exceptions that could be brought to my attention. But still if you think about it the railroad is still the flattest part of the whole thing. Ummm... thats why railroads have so many bridges ...to remain as flat as possible. The bridges are there for a specific purpose...to maintain grade....or lack of it.quote> You make a lot of assumptions here, some that are valid and some that aren't. The only important thing is that yes, what I was asking for with that kind of grade never exists in real life. But if I could make what exists in real life, I wouldn't have this problem.

Okay, I've read the whole thread, and I don't think I missed anything... Why doesn't anyone seem interested in rail-over-road? For me, most of my rail is in a tight spot, but frequent road intersections and highway proximity make road-over-rail impossible, and sometimes lots would face the road-over-rail...but the rail line has all the room in the world for an overpass, since it crossing nothing but the roads it needs to go over. It has all the room it needs in its thin corridor. So can I request rail-over-road, or is there a reason this has been abandoned?
-
I used to be totally uninterested in passenger trains, but you've inspired me to put in a whole regionwide infrastructure, pretty much just because of the California Amtrak trains. But I've always loves subways and elevated rail, and those MARTA cars are going in as replacements as soon as I get home. =) So...thanks.

Good luck with this, but I think it's going to be impossible, only because London is in no way on a grid, and none of the roads are at proper angles with each other. The roads will be impossible to build and still look anything like London.
