Let's Start the day in the Zócalo, Yucatan... Also known as the Historic Quarter, the third largest in the world, just after Moscow and Mexico City. The SRE Towers, also known as the Ti'hó Towers, The Secretariat of Foreign Affairs (Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores) they are the government department responsible for Yucatan's foreign affairs. As we continue, the climate got a bit worse, and it started to rain, luckily it was already late. The Rain stopped, and now we will be able to see how this towers blend the Modern Architecture with Old Colonial Architecture, a beautiful mix of history and culture. See you next time in Mérida! The First Complete Update!!! Mérida is a very special place for shoppers. Anything that is made in Mérida is available here along with countless imported designer items. Large modern malls and upscale neighborhoods, that seem like they were developed just for shopping complete with more traditional shops, sidewalk vendors and outdoor markets. This city offers it's visitors one of the ultimate shopping experiences available anywhere in the world. For tourists that are seeking the upscale shops and malls, your choices are easy. Plan your days around visits to Polanco, especially the areas of Mokalabe, Centro Surbana and Zona Azul. Centro Perinorte and Perisur, which are both located in the southern part of the city, are also very popular. Mérida has one the most active nightlife scenes of America. You have an almost endless choice of options. The music scene boasts jazz clubs, loud all-night discos, Mariachi music, Flamenco, Cuban and salsa clubs, classical concerts, opera, philharmonic orchestras, romantic trios, chamber music and more. Would you like to dance? This city has dance clubs, rock & roll bars and a lot of the upscale restaurants have their own dance floors. Broadway style theatre presentations, big name rock concerts, folkloric dinner shows, mariachi shows and Flamenco shows all vie for your attention at night. Many of the larger hotels have adjoining discos or lobby bars with some surprisingly high quality live entertainment. The nightlife scene starts late, many clubs and discos don't open until after 10 PM and they go till the wee hours of the morning. This will be quite interesting! Here is a picture from my last CJ, they are the Ruins of Tenochaneca (The Birthplace of the Gods) It was in built by the Tenochanecan Civilization, which controlled Ancient Ruteria from 100 BC until 250 AD and was partially burned my the Insulonians in the 8th Century.

The city proper (Federal District) produces 30.6% of the country's gross domestic product. According to a study conducted by The Yucatec Stock Exchange, Mérida had a GDP of $376 billion, ranking as the ninth richest city in the world after the greater areas of Tokyo, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Paris, London and Osaka/Kobe, Mexico City and the second richest in the whole of Latin America, as measured by the GDP of the entire Metropolitan area. making Mérida alone the 32nd largest economy in the world. Mérida is the greatest contributor to the country's industrial GDP (13.8%) and also the greatest contributor to the country's GDP in the service sector (28.3%). Due to the limited non-urbanized space at the south—most of which is protected through environmental laws the contribution of the Federal District in agriculture is the smallest of all federal entities in the country. Mérida has one of the world's fastest-growing economies and its GDP is set to double by 2020. The Historic center of Mérida (Centro Histórico) has been declared World Heritage Sites by the UNESCO. Famous landmarks in the Historic Center include the Zócalo, the main central square with its time clashing Spanish-era Mérida Cathedral and National Palace. In addition, there are several restored haciendas that are now restaurants, such as the San Ángel Inn, the Hacienda de Tlalpan and the Hacienda de los Morales, all of which are stunning remnants of Mexican and Yucatecan history and house some of the best food in the world.

Left in seclusion for many years because of the difficulty of traveling to Mérida the people of this region have cultivated a distinct contemporary society that is unique in the World. Mérida is a safe place to visit and the people are warm and friendly. "I asked a friend once about crime in Mérida and he simply stated that there was no place to run there". Being such a close-knit society I took it to mean that violent acts of crime are simply not committed here that often because they are more or less one big family. There is lots of traffic in Mérida, especially downtown. Taking the local bus can be tricky if you do not speak Spanish. The majority of streets are one-way and the bus routes wind all over the place and if you are not on top of things you can end walking more than you expected. If you are in relatively good shape and don't mind the heat [it's hot in the summer] then you can walk to almost every attraction if you stay near the downtown main plaza. This is a great way to get to know the city and once you figure out the street [calle] numbering system, getting lost is unlikely. Outstanding regional dishes and traditional music and dances local to this region can be found in restaurants, theatres and shops housed both near the main plaza and in palatial mansions along Paseo de Montejo - a boulevard fashioned after Paris' Champs Elysée.
