simmars-forum-threads Transit Network Workshop
wannabe123456789 replied to AndisArt's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
I think it would be a good idea to implement some features to make mars more pedestrian friendly. I like how some buildings have a feel to them as if they are partially underground and I think I've seen a high wealth residential building that's just a glass ceiling that reveals underground condos, but I think there should be a way to make the buildings. The ATEX idea that keeps getting thrown about looks great and it should be adopted to create pedestrian tunnels that could serve as eye candy and land value boasters in high density areas. They could be either put on top of roads or serve as pedestrian malls like in NAM and have small branches that create the illusion that they are connecting to other buildings. They would have to use a style or several styles to choose from that would make them seamless. There could possibly be glass or totally covered versions that would give the cities a very techy sci-fi feel. The ones over roads and avenues would of course just raise land value and they would have to function as 1x1 transit enabled lots that have BAT models extending a certain length down a road or avenue. I suppose there could even be an entrance lot that functions as a toll appearing to direct road traffic to an underground tunnel under the street level, while the covered street level appears to be all pedestrian with either no view of the street, or it could appear like a glass covered retail mall. I would assume such street covers would be pretty expensive, especially since they would create the illusion that road traffic is underground and they would have to be modular. Realistically, If you live on mars, you would probably avoid going outside due to UV radiation, and who knows, a lot of people may not be able to even afford space suits. It would be really exciting to see an idea like this implemented. It would add an extra sci-fi edge and make cities more diverse. I feel like it may be within modding capability. I hope it isn't too difficult though. -
Maxis buildings appearing as brown boxes???
wannabe123456789 replied to wannabe123456789's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Well I realized it might have been an installation problem actually. I just decided to reinstall SC4 deluxe and it was fixed. But it was a strange glitch that I had never heard of. -

Thanks, I would have tried removing plugins to check, but first I wanted to check with you guys at the forum. I didn't download either of those two mods. I did of search of my files and I couldn't find anything that seemed two suspicious. first I'm just gonna try running my game with no plugins or half my plugins and see where that takes me. OK now I removed all my plugins to see what would happen and ALL my euro buildings were STILL brown boxes. This is baffling. I never modified any game files. and I'm sure I have a legal copy of Simcity 4 deluxe. -
Maxis buildings appearing as brown boxes???
wannabe123456789 posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Lately I've had an unusual problem. Whenever I set a city to the Euro tileset, all new Maxis buildings that grow appear as brown boxes. I'm baffled by this problem. My other tile sets are working fine. Custom buildings on the Euro tileset are working fine. Could I have downloaded a mod that blocks all European Buildings? is this a known glitch? I haven't seen it before and I've been playing the game for years. I suppose it's worth noting that I recently went on a downloading spree on STEX for Asian styled buildings and lots. could that have anything to do with this problem? -

Yeah, I figured it out a couple hours ago... still downloading....

But it's only French or German grrrrrr.

This looks just like Simcity 3000. They have it on iphone!?

Don't worry about there being know regions. The maps will by 100x100 kilometers, about the size of a standard SC4 region.

Industrial Sector Planning
wannabe123456789 replied to ssnakes9's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Looking at industrial sectors in the US on Google Earth, I can tell you that they are always planned in a grid and most industrial buildings have direct rail access. As for custom content, I would suggest simgoober's warehouses and factories, but you need to do some browsing through his collection because most of his buildings are commercial. They are the most realistic industrial lots I've been able to find. -
A city with population of at least 1000000
wannabe123456789 replied to Alba_'s topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Is your tax rate 9.0? If so, you need to lower it to at least to 7.6. By now it might be too late to make the taxes that low and balance the budget at the same time, while keeping the city's residents healthy and educated. I had the same problem as you. Most of my cities would stop growing when the population reaches about 750,000 and 950,000 was the highest population I could ever reach. Now My most prosperous city has a balanced budget, a life expectancy over 80, education level between 160 and 200, a population of about 1.5 million, and a tax rate below 6.0% for everybody except the poor (they are really more of a nuisance anyway.) That city was the first city in a region that is fast growing and already has a population of 12,000,000. I don't cheat, but I also use a lot of custom lots and the NAM along with other mods that don't give me an unfair advantage. -
My city's great. So why don't they want to live there?
wannabe123456789 replied to Wizard of ID's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
there is no cap in the number of residents, I've built a city with 2,082,000 with no mods or custom lots. from what you have written I can see that you have not developed enough industry in you region to support any more economic development in your city. I need to see your city in the game to know exactly what to do, however, I think you need to expand high tech industry in your region to promote the development of high wealth offices and and attract more wealthy business sims.
