How to configure SC4 to work with your new hardware
Simcraft replied to Morofry's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Thank you very much. I added your lines to my shortcut. It worked a little more stable i think but then it crashed again after like 15 minutes. So i was looking at my plugins again and i think i was wrong at first. Some plugin might be the problem. I tested the game without any plugins and managed to build a 40k city without any crash in like 45 minutes. I will continue testing it and test some of my newer plugins. Do you know if a plugin can cause a crash even though it is not used (but loaded)? -
How to configure SC4 to work with your new hardware
Simcraft replied to Morofry's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Hello guys, unfortunately my SC4 is also crashing very often. I tried what was posted in the first post. I was also trying other tipps such as: - Running as admin in compatibility mode XP SP 2 - Running with the "Sim City Launcher" with several adviced options including the dual core cpu tipp. That didnt help. I am using plugins, but they dont seem to be the problem. I created several new cities and they all start to crash at around 15k - 20k citizens and not right at the beginning. So it seems to be a stability problem and not a plugin problem. Otherwise the game runs well and without lag. My pc is not the best, but more than good enough for a 12 years old game. The problem might be that I am running Windows 7 64 Bit. As far as i remember it was running ok with a 32bit system a few years ago, but i no longer own that system. Might consider to install XP on a second hard drive, but that will be my last option! SC4 was legally downloaded via STEAM. Any help? Thanks -
Hey, it seems I am having huge problems with my custom residential buildings. I installed the maxis block all buildings plugin from dusktrooper and the original houses don't start to grow as expected (the blocker is this one: ). Afterwards I downloaded dozens of custom buildings (a.e. gascookers uk terraces, suburbans and high streets and many others from other people) but they wont grow, too. All residential areas are connected to streets, water, power etc.. Theres no problem with that, because I have tested this before with the original maxis buildings before I installed the blocker. I have carefully doublechecked that I have all neccessary dependancies. There shouldnt be any missing. I even tried this: I deleted everything from plugin folder in order to prevent complications with other pugins. Then I reinstalled only one custom house from gascooker plus dependancies, but still it wont grow! The game finds all other plugins ( such as ploppables, but also commercial buildings that are growable). There shouldnt be any problem with the plugin folder. Does anyone have a master idea excepted reinstalling? Thanks

hey and thanks - I installed CAM. What do I have to manipulate on the base game files? - I already removed the maxis blocker and the maxis residential low level lots started to grow. Theres no problem with that. But the custom buildings never grow, even though I downloaded a lot of low and medium level residential lots. I also installed them correctly into the plugin folder + dependancies. I am having no problems with custom industrial and commercial lots. They grow!

I am unsure about what you mean. I installed the CAM Mod which modifies the growth stages I think. It was a neccessary download for some of my buildings. Do you mean I should uninstall the CAM? Thanks!

Thanks for your reply, but I kept that in mind already

Hey there, I have a simple question! I got a few STEX collections some years ago and now as I have christmas holidays I decided to install SC4 again and for sure I wanted to install the discs as well. But then I figured it is only possible to install file by file, which takes very, very long. Now my question is: is there a chance to install the WHOLE STEX.Vol. content with only a few clicks? Thanks in advance Sim

I was asking myself if it would be possible to buy the damn old Sim City 4 Engine (its from 2003) for a cheap price. I guess EA/Maxis no longer needs them since a new Sim City would certainly be in 3D like Cities XL. The Community could add things such as higher resolutions, normal/bump/specular mapping (etc..), bigger maps, new animations and so on. The money to buy the engine could be donated by the community. -
This is very interesting! You should take a look at Anno 1404. It will offer you great new ideas for many types of buildings, especially residential ones from R$ to R$$$($$). Also many other citylike buildings like a doctor or fire department.

Hello Guys, My name is Simcraft and I am almost new to this forum although I am registered for a while. I am from Germany and i just started to work on buildings for Sim City 4. I focus on buildings from my home town Hannover, which is in central-north of Germany (south of Hamburg). First of all I want to share some infos about Hannover with you. Hannover (german) or Hanover (english) on the river Leine, is the capital of the federal state of Lower Saxony (transl: Niedersachsen), Germany and was once by personal union the family seat of the Hannoverian Kings of Great Britain. With a population of 522,944 (1 February 2007) the city is a major center of northern Germany, known for hosting annual commercial expositions such as the Hanover fair and the CeBIT. Every year Hannover hosts the Schützenfest Hannover, the world's largest Marksmen's Fun Fair, and the Oktoberfest Hannover, which is the second largest Oktoberfest in the world (after Munich). In 2000, Hannover hosted the world fair Expo 2000. The Hannover fairground, due to numerous extensions, especially for the Expo 2000, is the largest in the world. Hannover also has regional importance because of its universities and medical school, its international airport, and its large zoo (known as one of the most spectacular and best zoos in Europe). One of the most famous sights is the Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen. Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hannover ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Telemax television tower After this short introduction I want to show off my first Building I am creating right now. Its the Telemax television tower, which is the highest building in Hannover. The building is of special architectural interest due to its square surfaces, which is rare for television towers. The tower is illuminated in the corporate colors of the Deutsche Telekom AG (magenta) for special occasions, such as the Hannover fair or CeBIT. I plan to illuminate it like in real. And this is my BAT so far. Day version is at about 85%. I hope you like it so far. It is the first BAT I ever did (although I got decent gmax and photoshop skills). I would like to share your comments and critism with me! Will post an update soon! Oh and mntoes, sorry for creating a similar header as you did for your (excellent) uk housing project. I just liked that idea too much.

Why not? The two files are in pluginfolder. quote> Well that's because you have to put your BAT on a lot first, you can't just open lot editor and expect it to be there all ready on a lot after using the plugin manager. You have to open a landmark lot, and replace the landmark with yours. But you have to make sure the lot size is big enough first, where your BAT will appear on the list to replace the building. I hope that's clear and helps!quote> Thanks alot! I knew I had to place it on a lot, but didnt know it has to be on a landmark lot. Now I only need to figure how to get rid of that graphic bug. @Red Lightening, thank you, too

Having my first bug now. Take a look at the picture and you see the wrong shadows on the roof. The roof is not one model actually, but 4 triangles made with the line shape tool. Its weird because one of the 4 triangles is working correct (the right one) but the others not. I also already copied the working triangle and put it to the place where the other triangles are, but the problem still happens. Another problem. When i export the tower, open the .SC4model it in plugin-manager, move it to landmark-section, save it (so .SC4desc will be created) and finally open LotEditor I cannot find it in the building menu. Why not? The two files are in pluginfolder. Regards, Simcraft

What frustrates you about sim city 4
Simcraft replied to Pasta-power's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I'm missing /bump/normal/specular maps and all the other mapping techniques. But Sim City 4 is an old lady, I cant expect more than it offers when its about graphics. -
Hey Sgt Pepper, DO you like brutalism? If so I have a nice brutalism building for you. Its the "Bredero high-rise" in Hannover, Germany.

Thanks alot so far. And thanks for helping me with the scale! Will keep you guys up to date!

Hello, my name is Simcraft and I am new to Sim City 4 Modding. I already mod for about 7 years, but mainly for Batlefield 2. I´ve got strong Photoshop skills and decent 3ds max skills. Now I want to change from Battlefield to Sim City, because I would like to create some buildings which are (or were due to ww2) in my home town Hannover in Germany. But I have to tell that I find it hard to find some good tutorials about modeling, skinning (there must be differences to battlefield 2) and exporting buildings to Sim City 4. Either they aren't that good or the link to the tutorial no longer works because its a very old tutorial. That is why Im asking you experts in this forum if you can recommend some nice tutorials for me. Also which tools do you recommend me? I would also like to know something about the sim city 4 technique. Does the needed tool render the created building from every side and creates pictures from it or does it export the whole model & skin. Im asking because Im not good at not wasting polies for my models and performance would for sure suffer if the tool exports the whole building. Thanks in Advance! Simcraft

Thanks a lot for your reply! Thats much appreciated! And for sure I will join the german forum. This is all I needed to know.

Hello guys, is it possible to have a tram driving on a bridge (avenue bridge, for example)? If so, how? I always need to build a second bridge or a tunnel just for the tram which is quite unrealistic. Greetz Sim!

Awesome buildings! Can we already download some of them in the ST Exchange?

Im sure more realsitic cars will come quickly from the community! -
I would really love those buildings shown by callbat! I was searching for equal ones, but failed. Your ones would be unique in the sim-world!

Hey Guys, I'd like to request something and I apologize if this has been asked before. I am unsure if it is possible to do, but do some custom maps support bigger mapsizes than the regular game does? I'd like to create bigger cities Also are there some mods available which make the emergencies more realistic? For example I think it would be a great idea to lose money if you send fire trucks to the fire or if you have to use the police. This would just be much more realistic. Also I think both the fire trucks and the police are too fast. Often my departments are far away, but the trucks are still on the spot after a few seconds. Imagine how long it would take you to drive with an own car through your sim-town. Regards, Sim

Hey Guys, Ive searched my a** off the last few days, but I didnt succeed to find all buildings I want for my London map. Therefore I am still looking for victorian flats similar (and/or bigger) to these two ones. They must be Wall 2 Wall and should obviously grow on medium or dense residential areas, for sure. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/property/graphics/2007/01/18/pgreen2.jpg I especially need this one in that size or bigger!! Thanks in advance!
