  3. Background Information

Hello Everyone- I joined simtropolis a long time ago, then left due to a series of unforeseen events. However, I came back after finding a steam copy of SC4, and realized how much I missed simtropolis and Simcity itself. As such, here is my first City Journal since 2008 (I think, I don't quite remember) As such, I welcome you to My new nation. The Commonwealth of Ororia Pronounced Or-er-eia The Flag of the Commonwealth, Symbolizing it as being at the crossroads of the blue atlantic Aequalitas per libertatem The national slogan "Equality through Liberty" History The commonwealth is an Island nation roughly located 1200 Miles east of the coast of Massachusetts. First discovered by the British on their conquests of North America, the nation was an important trading point for Ships on their way to North America. As such, the nation was serviced by most ships on their way to North America and Europe, leading to cities with Spanish, Portuguese, Dutch, French, and English names, which explains diversity that has existed in the country since its independence. The island's economy grew as an agricultural island to supply ships on their way between the continents. The nation was divided between the empires, and largely was unaffected by the American Revolution. However, the revolutionary spirit began to flare up when American shippers began arriving in the Ports, selling better goods at cheaper prices. However, in its desire to low America's growth, the British banned all American goods from its ports, infuriating the people. Dalton, (the largest port city at Independence) ignored the demands of the British (who controlled the Majority of the Country at that time) and began buying goods as they wished. This relatively peaceful revolt was crushed in 1797, when the Brits arrived and shut down the Port of Dalton, and killing merchants who continued their trade. This authoritative action infuriated the citizens, and a group called "the heroes of the commonwealth" arose. These men and women became national criers, uniting the diverse people of the country in all of the cities and towns, calling for an end of British Rule. After a bloody war, the British were finally driven from the island at the battle of Pawtunket Island, officially granting the nation independence in 1811. Ororia immediately began trading with the Americans again, and refused to grant port to British Warships during the War of 1812. The nation grew fairly slowly until the civil war, when Southerners who opposed slavery found haven on the island. However, the southern navy was very interested in gaining a port close to the Union, and sent a delegation to gain favor from the nation. When the union heard about this, they immediately sent hundreds of engineers, Architects, and railroad builders to build up the (extremely) undeveloped island. Thus, the commonwealth refused to assist the south, and sent a fair number of troops (unofficially) to assist the north in their war with the south. When the north won the war, Ororia became an effective territory of the United States, but never truly joined in an alliance with them. However, the free trading with the United States helped to build the country from a backward farming island to an industrial powerhouse in the Atlantic. The commonwealth took some of the smaller islands close to the country, but never built a navy for anything larger than defense of the nation. However, the commonwealth was threatened by the rise of imperial Germany, and sent several regiments to aid the allies. Nervous that the Europeans would see this as American intervention, the United States severed its direct ties to the commonwealth, and Ororia was truly independent once again. However, fearing invasion of the island by European powers again, the Americas sent ships to defend its harbors. However, for whatever reason, the Germans never took interest in the island, and the nation never suffered from another invasion. The commonwealth remained neutral during the Second World War, fearing another massive loss of its population like during the First World War. However, it took aggressive stances against the Axis, including refusing port of ships bound for cities within the axis powers. With the end of the Second World War, ships no longer needed to dock at ports on the way between Europe and the nation needed to reinvent its economy. The nation then touted its plentiful resources, and began the nation began touting its highly educated workforce. Thus, the nation grew to have the highly diverse economy, with agriculture, industry, banking, and high technology that can be seen today. Economy The nations economy is largely based on Shipping, Banking, and industry, but agriculture is still a major part of the economy. Language The nations schools require students to speak English, French, and Spanish, however, a sizable minority of people speak German, Dutch, Portuguese, or Chinese. Government The country has two divisions of representation, the federal level, and the town level. There is a regional representation, but has no authority other than taxing citizens of a metropolitan area. The government is fiercely directly democratic, allowing every citizen to represent himself or herself and their personal opinions in the government, without having a representative who they don’t agree with represent opinions they do not believe in. The Federal Government is largely based on the American government, with three distinct branches of government. The Executive branch is the office of the President, who is elected by a popular vote once every five years and can serve only one term. The second is the Judicial Branch, represented by the Supreme Court of the commonwealth. The Supreme Court of the commonwealth is composed of 9 justices, each one who is appointed by the president and confirmed by a majority of the representatives. They serve until the age of 70, at which point they can retire or have the choice to continue to serve. The legislative branch, compared to the American Legislative branch, only has one hall of representation, the house of the commonwealth. Each town is granted one representative in the hall of the commonwealth, but each representative is granted one vote for every 100 citizens they represent. As such, they do not have to vote 100% for every vote that comes to the house of the commonwealth; citizens can actually send a letter to their representative, informing them that they do approve of a certain bill. Each representative serves for a six-year term, but can be recalled by their people at will. Representatives have rolling elections, which means that only ⅓ of them are up for reelection every two years (similar to the way the U.S. senate works) However, while the federal government has the ultimate authority on all issues, the majority of power is held by the towns. The country does not have counties, or regional subdivisions outside of names of regions (such as Portuguese Island) and all authority is within the towns (for example, the City of Miller, or the Town of Fairfield). There are no unincorporated areas; every inch of land is held within the incorporated area of a town. Towns under 12,000 people are governed by a town hall meeting, where issues are debated directly between the people of the town. Cities over 12,000 are represented by a representative town hall, where blocks of the city choose a person who represents them directly and can recall them at anytime. A city representative must provide an address where the people can personally talk to them and bring specific issues to light, which they, in turn, must bring to city council meetings. Geography The location of the commonwealth in the Atlantic Taken from google This is the Island that I hope to completely Occupy by the end of this CityJournal. This is Cape Barren Island by BobDriver from the LEX https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=9409.40 A Big thanks to him for his map.
  4. The City of Miller

Miller City Miller City is the largest and Most important financial city in the country. The city has an urban population of 500,000, and with the largest Metropolitan area in the country, with over 2.3 million people. 3 of the 4 largest Banks in the country are located in the City, as well as some of the most important industries and companies on the plant. The city was originally settled as a fishing port, but quickly grew into an important stop over for ships bound for Europe and the US. Miller maintained a british identity until 1845, when Portugese, Dutch, and Irish immigrants began arriving. In 1861, The Northern United States came in and brought the first railroad, transforming the city from a sleepy port into an industrial powerhouse and financial center for the country. Lured by the promise of work, European immigration increased, and distinct neighborhoods within the city began sprouting up. in 1921, in an idiotic attempt to help the city solve its financial problems, the federal government annexed the surrounding towns to the city, then dumped them onto the city of miller, allowing the city to make major changes to traffic and networks. However, this action enraged the local towns that were displaced, as they lost their identity and became residents of Miller. Although this is why the city has a logical grid pattern and functioning metro transit network, it also has led to an extreme amount of anger towards the federal government, which still exists to this day. Downtown Miller The Urban Area and its Suburbs around it The City center is located in between the ocean and a tidal basin. The city erected a series of seawalls to prevent the basin from flooding and washing away the higher parts of the city. Miller Hall of Justice, built before the city grew so rapidly, its now been eclipsed by the surrounding mega corporations. The Miller, Fairfield, and Coal Hill RailRoad. In 1903, the city's suburban tram network, simply called the trolly, was merged with the Miller Rapid Transit Company, to form the Transport for Miller Organization. At the time, the Miller, Fairfield, and Coal Hill was going into bankruptcy as a result of de-industrialization, economic problems, and general mismanagement, and so Transport for Miller purchased, and merged it with the Port of Miller in 1912, 20 years before the nationalization of the railroads. As such, it is the only remaining railroad that was not absorbed by the national network, and retains its own name, tracks, and rolling stock. In 1956, Transport for Miller was renamed into the Port Authority of Miller City, and consolidated into a new building directly adjacent to Miller South Station. The Port Authority of Miller also maintains control of the City Heliport and Miller International Airport. South Miller used to be the second biggest industrial port in the country. However, when the nation fell into the Depression, South Miller got hit particularly hard. The South End never really recovered, as traditional textile, steel, and heavy manufacturing turned to new factories in electronics and other high tech machinery, which is located towards the more technical city of Dalton. However, South Miller remains a proud, and distinct neighborhood. South Hill, the highest point in the city of Miller, and the heart of the South Miller Neighborhood. Factories and Artist lofts alongside the South Miller Viaduct. More Factories The Hall of the City. in 1774, the British Built Fort Seawell, a large fort strategically located at the north of the settlement of Miller. When the revolution swept the British away, the federal government occupied the former fort, declaring it "Fort Independence" However, after angry citizens demanded that a new capital be built to appease the diverse nation, the federal government left. Fort Seawell sat largely unused until 1860, when the rapidly expanding City outgrew its former home at Independence hall (now the Hall of Justice). Today, it houses most of the cities functions, except for the Port Authority and the City court. Miller North was built as a beach resort for families wishing to escape from the pollution and overcrowding of the city but didn't have the money to make it to Pawtuknet Island (the traditional Summer Resort). Its the only beach resort in the miller metropolitan area one can get to by subway. West Shore Station. Across the bay from Downtown miller are the west shore neighborhoods. These neighborhoods were former railroad ports but to solve traffic and financial issues, the city forced these terminals to consolidate into the massive new Miller West Station. From there, passengers would board the ferry and be delivered directly to multiple points in downtown miller. The Volmer Trolly was later added, tunneling under the bay and allowing passengers to hop on the subway directly from their trains Miller Southwest. When buisnesses started running out of space on the island, they quickly moved West to the area around the Station and Miller Southwest, where land was comparatively cheap compared to downtown. Chelsea Park. Formerly surrounded by a traditionally Dutch Neighborhood the region has gentrified and now is mostly American Ex-pats and recent college graduates Now for some random shots of the city University of Miller, the second oldest university in the country To leave Miller behind, we leave with a few images of the city at night. and finally, a region view. Miller City will have lots of suburbs, an airport, and another distinct city within the metro area, so stay tuned A personal Request... I am aware that there were vacant lots and other errors in the photographs. Something within my city was causing the save feature to randomly delete objects from the city, and so that is the reason for their existence, I request that you do not bring attention to them, unless you have a suggestion as to how to fix it
  5. Please Help

I need the help of all the great people on this website One week ago, I was having Game Crashes (in Simcity 4) Transport Problems and general havoc with my gameplay. In a fit of frustration, I deleted everything that was related to Simcity While that fixed the glitch problems, it left me with a big problem, I had forgotten to remove my download folder, and was not smart enough to save it on my external Hard Drive. at the time, i had over 2000 files from when I first started downloading from this site in 2006, but now, I have to rebuild my library from scratch, which is a problem because I have no time on my hands (not the patience) to search the website for hours on end and find the Files I need. So far, in the 3 hours I've spent here, I have reestablished 274 of those files and most of the dependencies (save the NDEX, SimPeg, and Porky Props (which I apparently cannot download anymore) What I want is to start a new city journal, and create one that will blow your soxs off, but what I need for that is some major mass packs. those who would be willing to help will receive gratuitous thanks and dedications in My coming city journal(s). if you are willing to help, please send me these An NDEX pack of buildings and dependencies A SimGoober pack A HK building packs (a friend was kind enough to send me those but they were all lost) A SimPeg Pack (with dependencies) and A BSC pack (my account with them went dead for some reason) To those who are willing to help, please send them to this email address dontdrink839@hotmail.com If you do, I thank you in advance, and if you send your Simtrop name or real name you will be given mention in my city journal and all others to follow TO ADMINS: if this is inappropriate, or in the wrong place, email me to tell em where to move it or delete it yourself, I didn't know where to put it. Thank you and may whatever deity you believe in (or not) Bless you -wade11

UPDATE The Airport has Finally been completed after two days of painstaking building and leveling Story; After JAL flight 352's crash in the central core of the city the airport was voted to be moved to a more healthy location where aircraft could fly an ILS without interference. After much locatation fighting the airport was decided to be moved onto Jia Yin island,a local bird sancutary local environmentalists were outraged and a deal was finally worked out which gave the group total control over the airport and its manegment, in return the group would keep the airport open and all finding would come from the national capitol in las Palos (the old portugese capitol). Construction was finally completed on May 23rd 2008. OK Now for the pictures The airport overview (sorry for the window, I was spacing out) The international arrivals hall for non JAL aircraft Cathay Pacific operates its partial hub here and is quickly expanding its services, it currently shares the concource with the Star Alliance. When JAL heard of the expansion, it quickly became one of the main financers for the airport to establish its center for East indies operation. Concource C is JAL's Oceania operations and its long haul hub for all south Pacific operations Random Pictures of the airport This was my first airport so im very proud of it. The Airport was based on grantley Adams International Airport in Barbadoes, London Gatwik, and the concouces based on Terminal 4 at JFK. Cheers -Peter

Ok, Here it goes Franiserb is an independent Island Region somewhere in the south Pacific. Its first settlement was by the Chinese in 1451 when they were sailing the seas. Many years later, portugese exlporers came by and attempted to ransack the land a dig for gold, however, the local populatiation left behind by the Chinese was not pleased and they formed a rebellion against their Creul Overlords. in 1938 the Japanese invaded and destroyed most of the native land and enslaved the local population into mining gold (which their island is rich in). Luckily, after the population of the island plummeted from 10 Million to 4 million, Americans in the Pacific took back the island and freed the native inhabitatants. With their Newfound Freedom and a new democratically elected government, the island nation thrived but due to a limited ammount of oil reserves, their were not many cars on the island, to this day, the popular form of transportation is the local subways and GLRs which Snake through the city. In 2001, after the new American Leader was elected, the nation formally cut off its ties from the American Government and began to work closer with its Chinese Inhabitants towards a better relation with China. The Country's inhabitants are varied and interesting, 73% of the nations inhabitants are still of Chinese decent, the others, 9% American Seirbs, 7%French Seirbs, 4%Japanese Seirbs, 2% Korean, and 1% refugees from the surrounding Island Nations. The others are of Mixed Nationality Transportation, the Island Chain has an amazing ammount of non- Vehicular Transportation, Trains, busses, boats, and a local airline which works like a speedy train (AirFralinserb). The Local government is a mix of several diffrent governments, at the head is the Chairmen of the Congress, who are a group of democratically elected members from each isle, based much in the communist system. Then there is the parliment of many who have a lot of power over the nation, the parliment serves as a voice of the poeple because anyone can run for a senator in the nation. Then there is the hall of the constituton, which the eqivelent of a supreme court. The system is quick and secure and has not had a glitch in it since. The last time that war was declared was during Vietnam, and to do this at least 5 members of the Chairmen of the Congress, a 70% Majority vote by the parliment, and 6 out of the 8 judges had to vote for it. The Chains national benefits are astounding, The entire system is based on your standing in society and is in the constitution, "no man, woman, or child of any race shall pay the nation more than 40% of their earnings, and if the indiviual is unable to pay the nation will support his debt" People at the top average a taxation of 50% of their earnings unless they opt for an apartment or condo (in which case they get a benifit of 5%) the middle class average a pay of about 40% (with a benefit of 3-4% for an apartment or condo) and the poor average a taxation of 30%, (with a large drop if the family is forced to live on government dollars). This way if you start at the bottom, you can get to the top ok, now for the fun park, PICTURES The city in its entirity, expanding rapidly to (note the airport, this will be very important in this Journal. A Closer view of the Inner City The Downtown Core, home see mung Fun park.
  20. What Building Style Do You use

I say, use it all, almost every city has a mix, even Denver or Los Angeles have a slight mix
  21. Will you buy it?

Not a question about it Yes, even if its for windows i'll install Bootcamp and get it
  22. Show us your airport!

As an avatior, I will say that your airports are quite beautiful, however, I wish to talk about airport design in the real world First of all, Runways - aiports cannot function without runways, in the real world, you are hard pressed to find an airport with more than 2 or 3 runways running in the same direction (some examples of such airports are CLE - Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, where there are 3 runways running the same direction) the reason for this is because it is very confusing for both the pilots and the traffic controllers because of the traffic on the taxiways and the danger of having too many planes crossing the runway at the same time. For the controllers, runways are marked based on the towers positon to the runway, so again, at cleveland Hopkins, the runways are marked 6L, 6C, and 6R. Second, if you want realisim, never allow for high or mid rise development for at least 2 miles from the runway or the Runway Approach (a good example of such a crazy approach is the one at LGA - La Guardia International Airport, which is hated by most professional Pilots flying without (or with) an ILS) Third, There is generally a diffrence between the pavement used near the terminals and the pavment used on the taxiways, this is used as a NAVAID in airports for Pilots and because laying concrete slabs is expensive, slow, and annoyingly bumpy. Fourth, This is a big one, Once you get to bigger airports with more planes and more destinations there are acctually more than one control towers (generally), this is due to the added traffic and the fact that large airports have more than one frequency (JFK has over 7 Approach east, Approach all, Final, Ground Clearance, JFK ground, and two sepetate grounds which are controlled by seperate towers) Fifth - Smaller airports such as Westchester County - HPN started out as air force bases and so they may have old hangars which represent that old heritage. Others (Such as MSN - Dane County Regional Traux Field) are still active Air force bases, so there are still wind tunnels and army jets partolling the ground, generally with an army base nearby Sixth - NEVER FORGET THE LITTLE THINGS, Airports have tons of annoying clutter all over the place, radio towers and relays, VOR's (those little things that look like missle silos sticking up from the ground), Lights, Concrete Holding pads, Ground trucks and busses and little shacks which hold both electronics and supplies Seventh - Transportation, most cities have their local transportation systems linked right up to their terminals (ORD -Chicago O'Hare International Airport, BOS - Boston Logan International Airport, CYVR - Vancouver International Airport) Then There are aiports which have their own Airport specific transportation (JFK - AirTrain, EWR Newark Liberty - AirTrain, Houston International airport) most of the time they are monorails but they can also be BRT's and the Local Subway. Eigth - Location, Location, Location. This is probally the most important to understand in cities of diffrent cities. For Example DEN (Dever International Airport) is located out far away from the city and is that big because of its central location to the country (which is the same for ORD, Houston, Atlanta Hartsfield). Denver actually had a diffrent airport before but moved it farther out becuase of oppresive approach patterns and local residents unhappy about the noise. Anyway, Becuase of this, The Ammount of smaller planes such as puddle jumpers and annoying little Canadairs is greatly higher than that of 747's and the bigger business jets (such as A380's, 747's, 767's, and A340's). also, because its the midwest, there is ample flat land to expand onto, so those airports spread out into the surrounding Territory, Finally, if you want a denver like secnario, the airport is going to be very close to farming land becuase of the expenses of locating it in the inner city, just beyond that of the sprawl which characterizes places such as denver and Houston Now we change to something very diffrent, costal City airports. These are druastically diffrent from midwestern city airports because of their location and demand. (there are actually two Subcategories to this so hold on 1. Financial Center Airport - This is the most durastically diffrent of them all and the most important of them all. First, Geography, If you look at SFO, JFK, or YVR on a map, they have to deal with some very diffrent things than Midwestern Airports. Second, History, With the rise of financial centers on a costal, rocky, or terrained city there is a heavy problem of land demand and supply, and an airport reflects that. If you look at JFK, LGA, SFO, LAX, or BOS on a map, you will notice that they are all closer to the cities than most midwestern airports. This is because most cities like this had their airfields built before suburbanization and it was to late to move the airport to an easier location. Therefore, Costal or terrianed locations airports near financial centers will both be surrounded by low density housing and be dispparingly small. However, if you look at New York, it has three airports (going on four with HPN) all of which are enourmus and there will generally be a diffrence in the traffic at these as well. so a. The International Airport - This will both be the largest in traffic and decent in size, JFK is in the spotlight here, here the ground traffic is going to be big planes, 747's, A380's, A340's, 777's, 767's, 757's, A310's and such other large aircraft and geneally wont be of the same airlines because of the competion for gate space at the airport. You may see a smaller plane here or there but geneally you see the Big Guys out there. b. The Municipal Airport - The best example of this is LGA - La Guarida in New York. Here is where you see the reigons airplanes in full view. It is from an airport like this that you will see the smaller planes such as the puddle jumpers and Annoying little jets. here you will see an occasional 757 or 767 but generally you see 737's, A318-21's, 717's, and fokker 100's. There may be a section of the airport dedicated to serving one airline but generally you find a mix of every airline imaginable. This airport can be anywhere from small to medium in size and have a dispropotionate terminal area and maintanance sheds, (look at LGA and JFK on google earth too see what I mean. The following is a list of the Great Airports and the airports which I have just been talking about JFK(i)-EWR(mixed)-LGA (m) SFO(i)-OAK(m) LAX(i)-LGB(m) BOS(i)-PRO(m) London Heathrow(i)-Gatwick (i)-Ludwig (mixed)City(m) Paris Charles Du Galle (i) - Paris Orles (m) 2. Now comes a seperate one, the Vacation airport This is a seperate beast entirely, for this, im going to use two examples, The Miami Area and St Marteen in the Caribian. a. The continental airport - If you look at Miami area in terms of Airports there are actually 4 Main airport (West Palm Beach, Miami International, Ft. Lauderdale Hollywood, and Ft Lauderdale Executive) Here, there will be an enourmus ammount of medium sized aircraft and very few puddlejumpers and other such small aircraft, here you get anwhere from an A318 to a 747 and at every airport, there will be enourmus competition for space because of the demand for the tourist destination (weather it be a beach, a ski hill, or an amusment park (disneyland)) You will see all of the aircraft at all of the airports because of the demand (and even more during spring break!) Then there must always be the buisness jet airport for the corporate fatheads with planes, here you will see more of the small Biz Jets all Around. 2. the island airports - these are very diffrent indeed, especally if were talking about the carribian. These airports will have a large gap between puddle jumpers and buisness jets because of the lack of the direct flights from the weathly mainland to these remote locations. Generally, these airports are small, open tarmac airports without jetways or large terminal building (thanks to the lovely weather) and generally have their only runway right next to the water and the slums. At an airport like this, there is generally very little tarmac for the taxiing. That about sums it up right there, if you have any questions for me, send me a message on my profile -peter
