Don't think its actually a city builder to me but more like a management game. Reminds me Age of Empires as well with a little mix of Anno and ive never played settlers but looks similar to that as well. Doesnt seem too deep but looks good and im impressed by the small developer. Definitely interested in giving it a try

10 things that need to be fixed in this game because it's dumb.
Jamonbread replied to NaughtyWord's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Don't agree with this list because I think way more important things like city size, spaces in regions and terraforming are more important. Oh and road networks... more then two (pretty much) would be nice. However your point on taxes can be worked around by adding a finance office in one of your cities. I think this was the only thing that pleasantly surprised me in the game... the way you can adhance government functions with modules opens up a great and interesting city specialization that technically maxis forgot which is the capitol city. So I would say that the point of unlocking government functions and the possibility of making a functional and meaningful capitol city is a cool thing about it. -

Gamespot rates SimCity 5/10: "...equal parts joy and misery."
Jamonbread commented on Freddyeddy's article in News
Its so funny, people have been trying to help EA by saying don't have online requirements and cities can't be that small and bam here are the official ratings saying just that when its too late. For the millionth time why don't they listen to us at all?! Im so glad i didnt blow my money on the new game -

Sorry for the lack of picture but I found this last night that the flex fly L2 Curve does not work over L1 networks... the flex fly disapears when i drag this level underneath. Another problem I don't think is a bug but is an issue. Since curves don't have starters I would make road connections by placing the old three tile starters at the end of the curve, delete the farther two cells and drag to create a nib for any network that would be able to immediately intersect a road. Since the starters are only in one direction now the intersections for one direction now need to be a tile farther which makes the setup very awkward. I also cannot access just normal filler pieces... not sure if they exist or not now. Another Problem is the extremely unstable L0-L1 transitions. Networks cannot pass under directly beside the transition which makes for giant bridges for tiny crossings. At least in the old Nam the RHW would be able to sneak under that close so not sure if this is an unknown bug or lack of time issue. I understand this whole code is brand new so I know bugs must be a pretty big issue since time hasn't flushed things out. Thanks for planning some updates soon!

SimCity city sizes will “eventually” expand, says Maxis

"I’d like to see the amazing GlassBox Engine roar with its newfound freedom, not mumble." Very well put. You can't make so many comprimises and preformance decisions with a ten year old sequel and an amazing new engine. -

(Update 3) Train Train Take Me Away

Youve done a fantastic job buttttt I think the biggest improvement you could do would be to get yourself a slope mod for your railways and roads. Other then that loving the single track! -

An Actual Urban Planner Takes On The Original SimCity

Inspired me to become an architect... but what a silly article. Anyone who leaves their house can easily see sim city is just an impression of the real world. It really doesnt need to be written down. -

What a waste of time wow kind of comical. @JoeB123: I agree, way more features of that nature in Cities in Motion oddly enough

I have been reading the development of Cities in Motion 2 and I cannot beleive how much they are building their sequel on the exact opposite values of EA. Its bizarre that this transport game seems to be answering almost all the calls for simcity that EA has been defending as impossible to do. While Glass Box may be putting sever limits on them it seems stupid that this game with way less history and brand power is creaming EA. I just looked at cities in motion 2 and they have been so much different than EA and although they are adding complexity they are getting 100% great reviews. Well gosh! Isn't that crazy, EA has constantly used the reply of needed to dumb the game down for main stream appeal. Time will tell on which game is more of a success but so far CIM is winning big time. CIM announced off grid city building as it is. A long time coming, done before and as a basic improvement of gameplay. If you ask Sim City it seems like its the equivalent of sending a rover to Mars. CIM is making their maps bigger, wayyyyy bigger. Their large size is 8x8. Talk to Sim City and they limit to at least 8 times as small and add a population limit of 100,000. CIM is going back to the Sim City 4 style of a basic region, city connections and commuting. Sim City 4 is claiming this has become too complex and we now have stand alone bubbles. CIM is improving terraforming and creating landscape sets so each region can be made a different style. Sim City removed this entirely, even it appears civil engineering scale changes. CIM has kept up their graphic and realistic quality, and actively looking for more ideas to add all aspects of real transit planning to the game. While simcity is letting us build modules onto public buildings which is great, when you module is in addition to a blue brick building with a giant badge sign on it like their police stations, realism is impossible. I get the tilt shift style, not the cartoony off scale stuff. I know I'm missing a lot but its impossible for me to not look at out requests, find them blatently ignored by EA and implemented by a game that isnt a full blown city simulator going above and beyond. They seem to understand what I think a lot of this community is dying for in Sim City 5. Sure Glass box is great but are the restrictions that it creates worth it? Before anyone comments that CIMl only has to simulate a few transit vehicles the new game actually generates completly random off grid expansion as you play and reacts to your transit system which has got to be a decently complex simulator to run. If Sim City and CIM combined it would be an awesome game I think. While Sim City 5 has introduced some great new ideas, all the great things about Sim City 4 have been wiped it seems. A bit of a ramble but I hope people can understand basicly what Im musing about.
