Helpful resources to get you started with your (non Mediterranean) European themed city
microbee_6 posted a topic in SC4 - Custom Content
Helpful resources to get you started with your (non Mediterranean) European themed city I'm starting my European city and made this for myself, but now I give it you (aren't I sweet). There's a heap of great European content on the STEX, and here is a place to get you started in using it. Here are a bunch of links to some of the best and most prolific developers on the STEX, and a few essential singular files. The Mediterranean region has deliberately been omitted as it does not fit with this climatic theme of North/West/East Europe. Clicking on any of these links should bring up a plethora of European themed files. P.S. I'm sure I have left out some major players so if you would care to add to this list I will happily update it. Enjoy! Architecture: Finland: prepo France: porkissimo jec xannepan Germany: stephenhh haarlemmergold Italy: oppie Netherlands: vanderaap haarlemmergold gizmocity Norway: Glenni Poland: ferox kacperrr Sweden: Odd from Sweden UK & Ireland: ill tonkso frogface morifari All over (general) Europe: oppie gshmails Andreas Roth vlakhaas Victorian Architecture: mattb325 Transport: Road Textures: SFBT Euro Road Textures Mod by frimi2 Cars: mikeseith sap23 Climate Mod: Middle european climate mod V2 and Alpine forest mod V1 -
Hey thanks for the replies, It would be useful indeed, but since I am starting a Euro city I have made a list of essential Euro links only. I will post it soon - feel free to add. maybe at some other stage we could make a more comprehensive themed list.

SimCity: Unleashed (SimCity 4.5 Revival)
microbee_6 replied to simmaster07's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Hi, This is a great idea, and despite first impressions, it does vary somewhat from the STEX DVD. The STEX collection is great but I have not bothered with it because I have mega-broadband and can get and sift through all that stuff myself. This mega-installer is a different kettle of fish all together; this is (in theory) simply the best of the best, dependencies all sorted for you, in one easy installation package. It's a great idea but it is not without issues. The biggest issue I see is that sometimes there is no such thing as 'the best' as players go for thematic cities. For example, regarding architecture, there are awesome Scandinavian, Mediterranean, and Middle Eastern buildings on the STEX. Which ones will we use? If we include all of them in the installer then our cities will look rather nonuniform and inconsistent. My suggestion is to avoid the “Sim City 4.5” mentality and stick with the Expansion Set idea that game developers use. This way we could make thematic expansions – and multiple ones to boot. To give you an example, how about the 700mb expansion “Europe Endless”; an installer that Europifies your game. This gives you Euro Road Textures, Euro Atomata, Football/Rugby fields, etc. It could even come with the option of choosing your climate in the installer; Mediterranean or Northern Europe, and then only install the appropriate architecture, palms or no palms etc. Also, as a final, and very important idea, I think we could all contribute to this but all the profit from the sales (and I would definitely buy one before the STEX DVD) should go to Dirk, to keep Simtropolis alive. Cheers. -
Hey thanks for offering help, If it hasn't been done then I might think about it some more and indeed knock up an index. I firstly need to think of the best layout i.e. Do I go by BATers or by subject? How can I categorize subjects etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated so look out for some more posts in the near future.

Hi all, I was just wondering if there was any guide to the developers who post their files to the STEX and/or themed content. For example, a list of developers who make good ocean themed plugins or links to files for your European themed cities etc. I think this would be most useful. To elaborate what I'm getting at, here is a further example: A Guide to Architecture: Northern Europe Norway: Glenni Sweden: Odd from Sweden Central & Western Europe Poland: ferox Netherlands: vanderaap haarlemmergold Germany: haarlemmergold Britain: ill tonkso frogface France: porkissimo jec etc. etc. So has this been done before?

Are you having a problem with this file in particular, or are you asking a general question about using files from the stex? Either way the solution is straightforward. Usually for most files on the stex you simply have to place them in your "plugins" folder. Using your file as an example: 1. Download the file and extract it. 2. Read the readme file, it contains important instructions on how to get it working. 3. Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest NAM, as the readme says. 4. Copy or cut & paste the ".dat" file into your plugins folder. Note that there are 2 plugin folders; one in Program Files and the other in Documents. It's the plugin folder in your documents that you want. In Vista it should be something like: username/documents/sim city 4/plugins It should all be working fine now. Ok?

Hi there, I have trams running beautifully all over my city, so I can help you with a few things. Firstly, just because you downloaded a station doesn't mean you will have trams. I suggest beginning your GLR experience with this pack (BSC SFBT GLR Tram Mod) first: https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/details.cfm?id=13665 - and then branching out as you feel comfortable. This pack will spawn it's own trams (in four different nifty colours, mind you) and is easy to use. You can also drive them in U-Drive It! Once you have plopped a station don't forget to drag elevated rail over the station. Check out this tutorial (you may have to register): https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=4623.0 Good luck!

TFM: Click the "..." button in Cleanitol and browse to where you extracted the file ('takeoutthetrash.txt'). Select it and it will load. Now click "locating files", then click "backup now". It will then tell you a list of files that it removed from your plugins folder. That's it, press "Quit". This is really useful if you are going to use datpacker. Do a search for it after you work out Cleanitol.

"I still get the following with datapacker .xls .css .dll .thmx as not SC4 files. Any chance you can add these next time." I've never come across them but I will certainly update it. Not so sure about dll though - the maxis cheat is a dll - I don't think people would like that removed from their plugins folder.

Hi all, Sorry for the belated reply. I actually wrote a lengthy spiel on how to use Cleanitol etc. when I first uploaded this file but for some reason the upload didn't work - and of course, I didn't backup my file :-\ So I reuploaded it, minus the helpful instructions. Basically, as the others said, download Cleanitol: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=97 and run this file through it.
