Is it worth upgrading from the original SC4?
JaWood replied to llamadog7's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
If you like what you see on Simtropolis, you will definately need Rush Hour. This WHOLE SITE revolves around and works off of Rush Hour. The sad thing is that Rush Hour is what Sim City 4 should have been upon first release, but EA held back to be able to sell two software packages and squeeze more money out of the franchise. A sad coorporate move IMHO. But whatever the case, Hush Hour is not simply icing on the SC4 cake. It is cake left out of a hollow icing shell! (I love being metaphorical. ) -

Yes, I'd like to see a small box building on the roof to house the elevator motors and a door to acess the roof. That's help with the realism. I love how the HVACs are sunken! Some drainage grates evenly spaced out on the open roof area could help to give the eye something to look at. Ooh, you could even apply some water stains around them too! The only other thing I can see is that there are no floors between windows. If you're thinking of doing interior lighting, floors will be necesarry to seperate light bleeding from floor to floor. But you may have already had this in mind. Great model! Looking forward to its release

I did some vine work on a trellis setting once. But if you're thinking of vines up a wall, textures would work just as well, unless you want to create that thick, lush look. Then you might have to do a little modeling. I hate modeling organic stuff myself, but I'm getting more daring.

Oh my!! I love you, Rickk! For those who don't know, I am an LDS member. My sig is the spire of the San Diego Temple. Rickk, if you want to use my temple model in this endevor of yours, you have my full support and permission. If you want to make your own temple models too (I know you were working on the Salt Lake City temple a long time ago) go right ahead. I feel the SLC one would be the most embraced since it's an American landmark, but I'd love to see the Washington DC or Portland temple as well. Let me know if I can help out in any way.

Welcome to my very first city journal. You can usually find me in the BAT rooms, or with the BSC, but today I'm shifting gears a little. Call it betrayal; call it expaning my horizons; call it whatever you want! But whatever it is, here goes nothing! Welcome to Beaumont County: a southwestern arid region in the Western Sim World. First, a little history on the area. This region was first discovered by Spanish conquistador Juan Francisco Garcia Hernandez around the mid to late 1500s. Navajo tribes were prevalent in the area previously, but what tribes were left at the time had all moved north to escape further disease and invasion. Silver had been found close by in many areas and several outposts had been established throughout the land. Hernandez along with a group of Spanish monks were sent out to survey along the banks of the Navajo River running down what is now known as Wild Canyon. The area had long since been left aside by explorers due to the almost impassible canyon that ran for hundreds of miles across the desert. But the lure of the almost certain silver deposits couldn't be left alone for long. Hernandez was determined to conquer the unforgiving land. Hernandez first approached the region from the west side of the canyon by horseback. The crossing of the canyon and river took several days; the explorers traveled for several miles up the western cliffs of the canyon until a suitable location was found to descend into the river bottom. The path was carefully recorded so that further travelers could also use the same route. After camping out overnight on the shores of the Navajo, the trek continued northward several more miles until again a suitable area was found to ascend up the northern slope. The expedition was nearly terminated when one of the regions famous summer thunderstorms flash flooded the river bottom, and the explorers found quick refuge atop current Point Muerto. Silver deposits were indeed found on the eastern side of the canyon, and the settlement of Trinidad was soon founded nearby. The town never flourished, however, as most of any silver in the area was buried deep underground and completely out of reach. Surface deposits were quickly depleted, and the settlement stayed stagnated for centuries until modern, more aggressive methods of mining could be established. Some farming and ranching was established on the high plains around the Navajo River, but the harsh summer climate and brutal hard winters of the area made for second rate agriculture.

I've been looking all over the web for pictures of the original buidlings from Sim City 2000. I'd like to re-create some of them in BAT for sc4, but I can't find anything worth using for reference. I don't have SCURK installed, otherwise I could just look at the original sprites myself. Everything on the web are all zoomed out, low quality city screenshots, and nothing about indevidual buildings. Please help me. If anyone knows of a library or a gallery somewhere of all the sc2000 buidlings, please let me know. Thank you.
