  1. Cockatoo's 3D Stuff

I am so excited to see this become a building for SC4. Awesome design, beautiful lighting, and fantastic modelling!
  2. CAD possibilities?

SW is a 'real' modelling tool; it is professional 3D CAD Software. If the AutoCAD method works, that would cut out the modeling aspect of the learning curve entirely. Would save months, at least.
  3. CAD possibilities?

I've read that AutoCAD 3D DXF is one avenue, which I'd like to pursue. Would you be willing to import a few files for me and test it out? As for different parts; if every different material was split into its own part in SW, then exported separately, would they import into the proper coordinate system properly? Consistent scale and position relative to 0,0,0 are important for this to work, I suppose. I'm sure I could learn 3DS, but my spare time is quite limited. If I could just model in SW and then do UV work in 3DS it would probably help me get through the modelling stage much quicker. (Plus I have some other personal projects I'd like to do that involve this kind of work flow). It would also mean that all I would have to learn, aside from UV mapping in 3DS, is the SC4 specific stuff for BATting.
  4. CAD possibilities?

We've had some issues in the past (some of our models were imported to 3DS for some packaging renders done by an outside contractor) and it was a real pain. STL files are far too large and cumbersome (you could wind up with a flat surface being made of 100s of polygons, while a round surface remains quite tesselated). IGES files didn't seem to import properly; that being said, the IGS files were imported from non-standard IGS format in the first place, so that could have been the source of issue. If any BATters are up for working together, I wouldn't mind trying a few things and seeing if a proper model can be brought into 3DS to be useable for BATting with. Anyone up for it?
  5. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Are there any downloads the extend the functionality of the Monorail? I'm looking for ways to incorporate it over roads, mainly. Having long strings of dirt looks weird in an urban centre.
  6. Terre Haute

Where could I get that building in the first pic, and the medium-sized white building at the bottom of the second pic? I'd also love those parking entrances on the far side of the historic building Nice city! Looking very good indeed.
  7. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Would they be Yes! Brilliant, thank you! I recall there being a second, larger, version that had the same banners as well (though maybe I was just positioning multiple versions of this lot and remembering it as one?). Would you happen to know what that was (if I'm not imagining its existence)?
  8. Can't find it?... Ask here!

A few years ago I had a pair of plaza lots that had several vertical red flags on them. They kind of looked like the grand entrance way to a government building in a communist country or something. There was one lot that I believe was 3or4 x 1 tile, and another wider lot. After returning to SC4 I can't find these lots! Does anyone have any idea what I'm looking for? I don't recall where I found them in the first place.
  9. Yet another one...

I think you guys missed Beep's point; It's not the dependancies and additional downloads, it's the undocumented stuff. I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but did you guys actually read his post? He's not complaining about dependancies or even downloading additional files; he's complaining about people not documenting all the dependancies leaving broken (or ugly/incomplete) lots, and in this case, ones that can not be fixed.
  10. Assorted Doodles by SimFox

I'd love to see this one make it to a full-blown BAT
  11. The iPod: A Cheater's Tool

School is too easy, and students are graded on the wrong things. For instance, knocking marks off a student's paper for it being 600 words instead of 1000 is moronic. If the paper makes its point, is well written with no grammatical, factual or theoretical errors it should recieve a good grade. Enforcing a minimum legnth encourages students to get a really large shovel, and use it to pile the BS on. Sure the paper might be long, but it says the same thing several times and is thus less credible as a report or commentary; which is what the point of an essay/paper is anyways. The way the school system is structured now is illogical. It does not stimulate creativity and intellectual growth; rather, it retards it. Although, the same can be said for almost all institutions in society these days... *sigh* Anyways.. good luck to the cheaters. I hope they can use the time they would have spent memorizing useless facts on things that will actually help them in life. God knows the Schools don't do it.
  12. Sunken Higway eye candy Set

Fantastic! Any chance at an addon set with improved bridge support? Some under-bridge stuff would be fantastic, too.
  13. SPAs Urbanist BAT Thread

The inside of this place is more impressive than the outside I think, I love sitting on the top floor and being able to see the first floor. Such a surreal look. The exterior is very neat, too, though. IMHO, the funniest Canadian show I've ever seen is Corner Gas, followed closely by The Royal Canadian Air Farce. I sat in on two tapings of the Air Farce last year; and it's funnier in person.
  14. Tell Us How You Start Off Your City!

I seem to keep doing similar things with my cities, so they all look the same =/. I usuallly build a sunken highway through the city from one end to the other on a medium map and build my downtown around the sunken highway. In a larger city, I build a U-Shaped sunken highway and build my downtown within it's confines. Sometimes I build a CN Tower and surround it with parks and stadiums and the like near the highway aswell. Once I have the basic structure of the main roads and some detailwork done, I begin my Industrial sector, always on the coast if the city has one. (My cities just about always have coasts, they look nicer ) I build a rail system after I have the roads setup and buil my freight stations and seaports. I make sure I leave enough room to build a few power plants so I'm not stuck throwing them in random places later on. I like to keep those things organised. I also begin my mass-transit networks before the bulk of my zoning work. If I have a second coastline or an area far enough away from the seaport/industrial sector I might build up a resort area along the coast with beaches. That's how I do, but I usually get bored of a city and start a new one before "finishing" a city.
