Maxis: Could we have built a subset offline mode? Yes.

Lucy Bradshaw: So, could we have built a subset offline mode? Yes. But we rejected that idea because it didn’t fit with our vision. We did not focus on the “single city in isolation” that we have delivered in past SimCities. We recognize that there are fans – people who love the original SimCity – who want that. But we’re also hearing from thousands of people who are playing across regions, trading, communicating and loving the Always-Connected functionality. The SimCity we delivered captures the magic of its heritage but catches up with ever-improving technology.

I have learn from experiance that if a game company brings back an old classic back in to the 21st century they always screw it up big time.

The main hard core fans are always angry, what we should do is ignore it and let go and in time the game and the company will simply give up on it.

I worked on the sensible soccer progject codemasters lied to me big time, the community was angry at codemasters, fans even bought an xbox as it was for that console only. The community expressed there feelings towards codemasters, the did petitiions etc, like always nothing happend.

When the game was online it was very active, had leaderboards etc 6 months down the line it started to die out. When I come to play the game I cant play it online since no-one is never there. You do have an option to play off line however you dont get the old amiga feeling when you play it.

So ignore it the best you can, pretend it doesnt exisit, give it till september. This can go two ways, EA admits they failed and they start to close all servers one by one and stops all updates, or all those "thousands of people who are playing across regions, trading, communicating and loving the Always-Connected functionality" will soon get bored by being the only ones on the servers and leave.

I never understood the leaderboards, they had it on sensible soccer and achivments. When you play an old classic for many of your human years you dont care for achivments or being a top goal scorer or a top major with a major populatated city, you play it for the sher fun off it.

If simcity 2013 does continue you mark my words, they will start charging people to download mods, extra city space to expand your city, and the updates will propably mess up your city every now and then.

Sim City 4 is the only sim game for me, the next simcity title they are most likely to destroy are the sims.

    Lucy

Cloud-based saves and easy access from any computer are another advantage of our connected features.  You can pop from work to home, play the game and have your cities available to you anywhere

sorry but this really annoyed me, whats wrong with putting it into a USB flash drive from one computer to another? least then you are guanteed that it's going to be there plus it will onyl take a few seconds and not hours from what will happen if you do do it.

HORROR FILM OF THE YEAR: SIMCITY (2013): A Tragic Story Where Everything Goes Wrong

    ----------------

I feel sorry for Ms. Lucy Bradshaw. But it was inevitable. A lot of things Maxis claimed about this game turned out to be false. It was just marketing hype. Nothing more.

    (1) Always - online connection is necessary for simulation to work.

I was skeptical about the necessity of the servers. According to Maxis, the servers are needed to share calculations. They lied about the Glassbox simulation being revolutionary. It is definitely not as powerful as we thought it would be. I am glad I did not rush and buy this game because the evidence that the Glassbox simulation is broken and poor has been documented all over the internet.

    Glassbox at work by HarvardAce:

Online connection was never necessary for it to "work" anyway. Kotaku expoosed this: http://kotaku.com/5990165/my-simcity-city-thrived-offline-for-19-minutes

(2): "It wouldn't be possible to make the game offline without a significant amount of engineering work by our team."

    This was exposed by UKAzzer:

Maxis/EA have been exposed miserably. They cannot fix the PR (Public Relations) disaster they created. This PR disaster should be used as an example by MBA students on how a project should NOT be handled.

why do you feel sorry for her?  She's putting herself out there basically saying "yeah, we lied and we're not going to do anything about it."

And art now imitates life. Maxis/EA are in a disaster where they simply can't exit without saving.

    My final verdict is....

EA and Maxis have dug the series into such a rut that it won't ever be able to escape it. If they keep this up with other games, EA WILL be bankrupt in a few years!

You make me sick, Lucy Bradshaw. Enough lies already.

Something tells me EA will do a backflip on the online DRM very soon they have done this before in the past. Didnt Lucy Bradshaw work for Chris Sawyer many years ago.
