This reminds me, one time I built this wicked seaport and zoned tons of industrial around it, then once I turned on the simulator and checked the ICR there was zero demand for industrial... in fact it was negative.

Damn.

The container terminal in Industrial Bay, which ironically no longer has any major industrial development.

Looks great! I would never get a seaport that big running without buildings being abandoned... my rural regions just would not support it. I'll look my regions up later on to see if there's any port in there...

Right... lets test this auto resizing system:

Overview picture:

And here is a larger picture of the port:

And here is the old port Approach road... bit small - it has been superseded by the dual carriage way that goes around the town.

I have always loved ships...space ships, naval military ships, large cruise liners...etc...

After playing the Sim City series for nearly 8 years ( I think?) I have never brought any of my cities to the level of skyscrapers (fail..I know). Recently, last week, I was pointed in this direction from a friend, and have since downloaded many many plugins. This thread has really inspired me to step up my game and make large seaports (and eventually get a skyscraper..) so keep the amazingness flowing, and maybe some of you could post up some plugins you use? :D I have a handful of PEG's and SOMY's, but my rapid downloading has given me many things that I have no idea what does what, so if you feel like being kind, I wouldn't mind at all! :D

First post on this forum by the way. :) In the most important thread of course.

Welcome to ST shortsonfire!

SC4 isn't just about skyscrapers Shorts, tbh I haven't built many cities with them in either.

SOMY and PEGs lots are good places to start seaport-wise, if you haven't done so yet in terms of custom content the most useful addition to the game is the NAM - the Network Addon Modd - search for it in the Modd section of the STEX i think.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions!

Thanks Jj. I know this isn't the place for introductions and whatnot..so I'll keep this short.

I've downloaded the NAM, but that was way too hardcore for me...I wasn't using many of the things, and the 'high' rails and roads and stuff were giving me a headache...so I removed it. (some of the things were nice..but it was easier to just give all of it up...)

I spent a good while working on this... I'm working on making my own region right now, and hopefully I'll have a city dedicated for a port...and a PC to run the military ships (my Mac doesn't support it. D:)

Hi Shortsonfire,

If you want to know more about building ports and finding downloads for them you might take a look at this tutorial on another SC4 devoted site: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=749.0

On that site you will also find a list of plug in lists. If you want to find plugins sorted by theme (like harbour, police office, education, parking lots...you name it) then look here: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=6209.0

Have fun!

NTM, Nice port. very good use of the NAM overpasses, but do you have a slope mod?

Slope mods will get rid of those really steep roads. They would make you port look even better.

Also, try using single road tiles to level the land around your port.

Good work shorts, just a piece of advice, if you make the road on the right leading down to the port less steep i think it would look better, but overall well done!

Well done Nathan as well, only comment is that it looks a bit tight for the ships to get to the dock in the middle!

Willing to visit my port, the worst port among the port in this topic?

29.gif29.gif

There is a lighthouse over there, don't crash with other ship and the bridge.(Actually the port is too small until,no other ship nearby)

port1.png

Although the port is small, but there wasn't any congestion nearby the port,so we serve a five star service

port2.png

Haha, the above statement was just kidding only

don't blame me21.gif

Anyway,I looking forward for any advice and sorry for my poor English grammar..

Thanks for a look on my small port

Wow, those look great :O

I'm not the kind that's good at building such seaports but I can learn a lot from these pictures.

I built this port, then realised that it lies on a lake, with only tiny river connections to the sea. I might have to spend some time widening them...

seaport.jpg

I don't really like building seaports; they are far too fiddly, but this was fairly painless to construct.

@ NTM: That seaport is a huge improvement over the latest one. However, I have 2 suggestions for you. 1, get a water mod, like PEG's Brigantine. It doesn't look good to see those dark spots under the ships. 2, eliminate those grade crossings at the rail yard. Since it is a rail yard, there would probably be trains parked there which would block road traffic. Overall, good job!
