hi all, this is my new city 4.gif

the urban core

MetroPuertoJoya.jpg

the contiguous built up area (so far), the idea is to reach around 2 million population in the city center and 3 million for the metro area without building so many skyscrapers (dunno, i just want less of them)

Copy2ofMetroPuertoJoya.jpg

the entire metro area 4.gif see the large urban center and the small city to the right? (lol its so tiny eh?)

but between the two cities id be building more farms and mini cities so yeah its still a work in progress 9.gif

Region config size is 68x26 pixels and JPEG size is 4353x1665

I just have to ask... how do you make cities that big? And realistic?

My big ones are jus huge grids with semi tall buildings at the center. It looks so messed up when theres a huge urdan center next to a undeveloped area I havent gotten around to.

Well in reality, cities are for the most part, gridded. If you have google earth you can witness this first hand. Most of the U.S.'s cities are old and established over the years, so they'll be composed of a grand series of grid boxes in differing shapes and sizes, mostly rectangular shaped. Bout the only thing that isn't grid like in most major cities are the major highways. But even in regions like dallas-fort worth, the suburbs are all gridded. And in Phoenix, even the highways are to an extent, gridded.

Here are some recent pictures of my region I've been working on for the past couple years, but had a big 1 year break, so I guess I'll continue with my CJ if it's still here.

Lot of nice work here.. Although im not a fan of the repetitive work with the same buildings appearing 3,4, sometimes 5 times in the same screen. I try to use one building once and maybe twice very far away from the first one.

Those are simple lots I found in the STEX. Just search for "European Sidewalk".

To get the foundations to form, I used the Lot Editor to tweak the numbers. It is better explained in the tutorial I made: click the link in my sig, or you can check out the updated tutorial over on SC4D's tutorial section. Hope that helps!

traffic should never be a problem, since as a city grows, so does its mass transportation systems..

i began to implement a dual highway system, early to futureproof, one for local lanes (frequent exits and entrances) and the other for express lanes (only a few exits/entrances for major interchanges, and connectors between the two every so often) with a monorail system either in the middle or nearby. So far no traffic problems and 2 million sims in the region.

Geez, AK 47.gif!  Time to visit your CJ...44.gif

In the meantime...here's an experiment in Tilt-Shift in SC4 that I've been posting everywhere in the past hour.

Here's the original photo:

And the one with the Tilt-Shift technique :

A larger (better looking) version, as well as links to tutorials that I followed, can be found on Pg. 3 of [this thread on SC4D] 2.gif.
