Welcome to Wood Country. Currently Under Construction

This will be my Journal showing off something very different from what you regularly see here on simtropolis.com. My goal was to create something as different from the rest and the first thing that I thought about was the grid. So I did away with it.

I'm trying to create "Regional Realism". The actual cities themselves will look very jagged, sorry but there's no way around this. so anyways, too the pics.

***UPDATE 5 PREVIEW*** The beginnings of construction on the Rail System.

Update5.jpg

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------sorry, i'll organize everything up soon. Here's Stockwood-----

Here is a sat pic of Stockwood

StockwoodSAT.jpg

And here is a thing I put together(I don't know what it would be called)

Mosaic1.jpgMosaic2.jpgMosaic3.jpg

Stockwood is a small quite town with a small town feel. Downtown Stockwood is the main attraction with its award winning park, Johnson Park. Johnson Park was named after Charles Johnson who founded the city back in the 1890's. He liked the bend in the Clear Water River so much that he decided to sell his farm and lay down his roots here. After many peaceful years living at this spot he decided to share the gem and invited folks from the nearby city of Benton to see the beauty of the hardwoods and pristine clear water of the Clear Water River. And the spot boomed for the next couple of years untill the big crash. From then till now it's a secluded spot where people stay and melt their worries away.

I will be showing other cities as I build them, so enjoy till the next update

jmselect-  I think I see what you're getting at, but your pics are too 1) small and 2) dark, and they are not organized to tell your story.

My 2c- take a look at re-presenting your first post in a way that best conveys what you believe is a unique approach.  Wood Country has stiff cometition for attention- your best foot has not yet been put forward.  EDIT You might also want to reconsider the name- "Wood Country" is a little close to the name of a long-running CJ- while I'm sure your intentions were perfectly good some might see you as being overly presuming or possibly poaching on someone else's turf.

I'll suspend a rating at this point and plan to come back to check out what you are doing with this CJ in a bit.  Good luck.

Nice Job! I like that your taking a kind of mountain environment approach. I do agree with dedgren, your images are small and a little to dark. But please continue, I look forward to keeping an eye on this city journal.

Anyoe who has the paitence to turn their pics into "satelite photos" has my attention; I have tried it and after a lot of fiddling around in Paint (Not photoshop, it was impossible to do anything relevent there) I came out with a poor result.

Nice work.

    Thanks for the comments everyone.

    @dedgren:

    -should have run a search.

-the pics thing(I addressed that later in this post)

-there's not really a story behind this CJ, I'm just kinda showcasing the region. and a little description of what i'm showing

Sorry to thatmonkeysim for the similarity, I didn't intend to jack your title.

I changed the title to "Terminus aka Wood Country". However similar it is visually, countries and counties are very different. I hope that the new title will make it harder to mistake one for the other but I will keep the name "Wood Country".

@ginchael: just stay tuned you'll see what i'm saying. and thank you

@dedgren/Energy Monkey: assuming that you mean the darkness(the sat pic) and the smallness(of the other pics). I'm gonna be doing a realistic sat pic, you know like how it's stiched together, with each part being a different shade/color/contrast/....... The smallness, well there's not really much to show off in Stockwood, honestly its a pretty boring town so I just did a overview of it. I will be showing more detail in cities worth showing off, but I didn't think that this city was worth wasting space on simtrop.

I will redo the 1st post as a intro when I have more content so stay tuned

Okay, this is what I did at work all day long. planing planing planing.

Here is the basic transportation infustructure. I know the colors are hard to see with the roads + stuff, sorry I did it on my pda and the screen is only 16K so colors look different from a computer.

These are the main surface streets, Highways, and rails

WCTransportation.jpg I might do the Utility infustructure plan tommorow.

Okay here is the basic plan for what I will pre-build

Roads, Highways, Rail, Citys, and Development has all been planned out. I still have to do utilities(which won't take that long). oh and also these are just general Ideas, the actual locations of these various things can be off but this is the general plan.

Wow! I clicked here thinking it was Wood County by ThatmonkeySim.quote>

    Yeah, so did I.

Anyways, looks very good. The transit network goes all over the place, but I like that. Can't wait to see more pics of the town/city! 44.gif

    Here is the Rail System.

In the thickest part I think it's either 4-5 rails next to each other. and that section is 1 large city.

(please tell me if you like this presentation)

    RailBeginning.jpg

Here's a mosaic of the rail line without any development yet, i'll put something in there soon

RailMosaic1.jpgRailMosaic2.jpgRailMosaic3.jpg so what do you think?

This is definitely very unique, and I personally am looking forward to further updates here, whether it be development or just more setup of infrastructure, which I am quite enjoying. As has been said, non-grid cities are not new, nor are grid cities unrealistic in real life. But your particular approach and presentation are definitely setting this journal apart from others that try to address this issue.

I do like that rail line. Very nifty, and clearly took a lot of effort. I tried something similar to that once without nearly as good result as you have gotten here.

Wow, this looks great! Your transpotation is very naturalistic and organic. Its a great looking design, and very realistic! Not conforming in any way.

Not only that but you've used alot of rail lines! And its amazing to see how long it goes. The presentation looks fantastic too! 9.gif

You're doing great, and I cannot wait to see the city built around those lines! Good luck. 44.gif

    Cheers, choco.

Yeah I know they're jagged as **** there's no way around this, I'm focusing on the Big picture rather than the small details, i'm thinking differently here.
