Wow. This now has more pages than Simtropolis' first major CJ, Nexis of Genesis.

I'll have something for you soon.

P.S. This is post 498. 499 will be in Terra, 500 in Green Depra, and 501 in Kinata.

For everything you wanted to know about hosting pics, but were afraid to ask. (Seriously, that was a really useful tutorial) I want to thank you, not only for the outstanding CJ (that has since topped 100 pages), but for the outstanding help you offer to those who ask. Your tutorials are so detail oriented and (imo) should be posted on the omnibus. Now then, getting back to your previous post (work can take up your time and energy, but at least it can be fun) you continue to amaze me with your ability to effectively showcase a single building, as well as its construction, for an update. There is some incredible stuff out there to be used and you do use it well. The fortune cookies though... I don't know, the plant looks to have seen some misfortune recently...incidentally, is there a way you find these buildings, or do you just happen upon them? The 100th page compilation was a beauty, it's amazing that you were able to use all of the avatars including the ones that have changed. If the number of posts that have been written since the 100th page update is any indication, this CJ has been an inspiration to many. Keep up the good work.

Great tutorial. I had a lot of problems posting pics. Now I will be able to post them. THANKS!!!

Nik-NIk

Oh yah before I forget. Great update. Mistral is a great lot. I never had the chance to get it, as I do not cheat (well I forgot the cheat that gives you all the rewards....).

The transport facility is nice. Well placed the second time. Reminds me of poor placement of it in one of my CJ's.

Take care.

    PLEASE NOTE

This post being HUGE and I mean HUGE just by the numbers of answers 62 if I'm right!

I'll do it on three two sequential posts, please wait until I've posted the third one.

    Thanks!

    wouanagaine - SC4 Terraformer a tool for regional hand-terraforming

    Salut wouanagaine,

Il est toujours agréable de te lire!

    Always good to see you!

This is one of my favorite industrial BAT, so detailled!

And that was the idea, about the Intermodal depot, to bring it as close as possible to the Pastis factory!

    Take care

Szarkoz - The Free Democratic Nation of Caledonia

    Hi Szarkoz,

About the Mistral Jaune, I feel the same way, and yes closing on the 100 page mark.... geez...

And if you continue your exceptional work in Caledonia I'm sure you'll get there soon!

    Take care!

    Bat

    Thanks Bat!

    JoeMeister

    Hi JoeMeister,

Hey! thats a nice compliment... thanks, I really appreciate that!

    See you!

    Take care

P.S. Reading your signature, might I add : "Andale, Andale, arriba, arriba "

Jacky (TWICE) (jacqulina) - Paradise Falls

Hi Jacky, hey! good for you! it's always satisfying when we can find the solution ourselves! I've seen you'r CJ, and the start is really promising! And as I've said there, time is not of the essence, enjoy doing your CJ, if not there's no point in doing it, is there?

And the tutorial should be posted very soon!

Take care and enjoy your week!

Benedict - The Mayors of Ellis Valley

Thanks Benedict, and you'll see in some of the following updates that the railroad will be more present in that part of Bruinen Fjord.

    See you!

    Pixelrage

No problem Pixel, always a pleasure to help, and as I told you before I had the exact same problem a while ago. And you can't be more right about the trial and error stuff, It is one of the best way to learn, if not the best!

    Take care

    GaBoR - Oro Bruno

    Hola amigo,

glad to see I didn't make some major mistakes in my little spanish phrase, please do correct me if I do, I really like learning some bits and pieces in different languages, I think that when you can understand even just a small bit of another language you begin to better understand AND appreciate their culture. Diversity is such a great thing. And it's one of the things I really appreciate in ST, it's great to see people from such different cultures and backgrounds, interacting and discussing, and sometimes be involved in some common project! If only our politicians could do such a simple thing!

Alright back to topic, cause I get carried away very easily on that subject WINK, about the Mistral Jaune setup, yes, now I tend to use the retaining walls only when I think there's a valid reason to use them, if not I prefer to have a more "non-concrete" look in my cities.

as for your passport, it's really a simple gesture intended to recognize your interest and implication in Anduin Valley, and more so it's a fun thing to do.

As you're now a citizen, if you ever see a house or mansion you like just say the word and you'll have a residence here!

    Salud!

    ThomasAH - Zorturia

Hi Thomas, well I guess even dirty industry can have a "clean" look. WINK

And as for page 100, I guess we'll see, sooner or later...

    Take care

Special Eddie - Oasis--The Wild West

In fact the building itself was done by Porkissimo at the request of Barbyw, who did the rest, IMO it's one of the best looking industrial building.

Beer's on you! "Barman--- bring me a Guiness please"!

Take care, and thanks for the beer!

Battlecat - Terra - An evolving region

Hi Battlecat, yeah I know they don't have to be big, it's just that my usual ones are around 12 to 14 pics, I guess I'm more comfortable telling the story with that many pics....

The cookie factory frighteneing! You bet! You know why the call them fortune cookies? Simply because your'e fortunate if you survive eating them! WINK

(oooohhh boy another bad jokes added to my repertoire)

    Take care!

Luker01 - San Lucas: My first CJ

    Hey Luke,

**out of breath...** yeah nearing the 100th mark... LOL

Glad to hear that you wouldn't eat the cookies, as I've said to Battlecat just above, they're called "Fortune cookies" for the simple reason that you are fortunate to survive after eating one! BEURK!

    See you next time!

David (dedgren) - Three Rivers Region

    David,

Running is a good exercise you know, that's what my cardiologist is trying to put through my thick Irish head!

But as I'm sure that the kind of running you're doing right now is probably due to professional reason rather than an actual exercise, I should tell you to be careful with the stress it may induce, I should you know, but I won't, cause it ain't my business, **mumbling... but I should anyways**....

Hum... where was I now?? (you see lack of exercise can be ruinous for the memory!)

Ha yes!.... running, railroad steel bridge... that's it! Yeah the railroad bridge must be one of the ingame ones, cause the only custom ones that I have are Jeroni's bridge, and it's kind'of a stone/brick one...

And I fail to make a connection about teasing.... hummm... me... teasing... NAAHHHHHH! LOL

About the last part of your post, well that's a good idea, though I'm already stretched so thin trying to find some free time to prepare some special (but small) treats for page 100, that I won't have the time to do it in time.... BUT it's an excellent idea, I think that I'll do as in RL, those kind of Centennial celebrations very often goes on for several days. Perhaps I'll have time before post NO: 3000 cause this'll be at the end of page 100...

I'm with you on the "yuck details" business. who wants to details in a CJ.... eughhh!

Alright I won't keep you much longer, knowing you certainly have to run (for your health...).

Enjoy your week my friend, and regards to your family.

    -John

    Bow River Valley

    Hi Phil,

You'll see more industry in that section of Bruinen Fjord, as I was saying to David, I tend to have a more global view of my cities and how they interact, so, for example this industrial sector being on the south eastern shore of the river, will be more geographically connected to and "part of", Anôrien than Bruinen Fjord.

Yeah already 100 pages! It seems like it was yesterday when I started this! Time really flies!

The effort I put into answering you and all those who post here, is very natural, I really think that it's the simplest courtesy to do it, considering that you and all the others have made the effort of voicing your opinions, observations and sometimes small banter.

Thank you for your kind words, and see you next time!

    Take care

    Tracker - Graph X Services

    Hi Tracker,

I don't know if it's historic, though it'll be a landmark in AVR history, that's for sure!

    Thanks for the continuous support!

    Take care!

    Pikatchoum - Bluebeach City

    Hi Pika!

No problem my friend, I understand.

Thanks, and see you on the other side of 100!

Mightygoose - Vil-valad, a city and its roots

    Hi John,

Hey don't make me blush here!

I guess that my approach and attitude is driven by the posters themselves, their (including yours) support is really overwhelming! So I just couldn't ignore that! And besides, for me it's part of the essence of a CJ, it's like a big happening!

    OK enuf' mushy stuff...

    See you next time

    Take care!

Bernhard (Nardo) - Urland a (mostly) rural coastline

    Gutten tag her Nardo!

Hehehe, how's Germany doing at the world cup?

I agree with you about Mistral Jaune, It's really one of my favorite Industrial bat, it has a "je ne sais quoi" that makes it special.

I just knew you would jump out of your chair about the depot setup that's why I warned you! ;-)

About the Cul-de-sac, I know it would have been preferable if the factory would have been placed a few tiles to the south, so I would have had some place to put a street around it, thus avoiding this problem, BUT the rail line was already laid out, in a straight line to the station, and I didn't want to redo the whole thing, so, as in RL, sometimes we have limitations that we just have to live with!

The industrial parking and BuddyBud staircase is one of those little details I really like in this update... almost as much as the whole setup in fact.

And about your update, I went and had a peek! Very good work!....

About your comment in your CJ....hehehe.....I think I'll do it again... Let's go:

    **shouting**

PEOPLE, YOU SHOULD GO LOOK AT NARDO'S LAST UPDATE...

    **end of shouting**

hehehe... now you're in for another update my friend!

Take care, and again good luck at the Mundial!

    Fabiocb - RASEC

    Salut Fabio,

Hey, great to see you, are you a football fan, and following the Mundial?

If so I should wish you good luck, but don't tell Bernhard (Nardo69), cause I also wished him luck! hehehe... well only one can win in the end I guess, so enjoy the show and wish for the best!

    Thanks for your good words.

    See you in Rasec.

P.S. as you told me to do so, here's a small correction.

We say "Bonne fin de semaine", it's again a question of gender... what can I say, I guess the French are obsessed with ... hummm let's say gender!

    Take care my friend!

ThePeoplesPerson - The Tropics of Haalu

    Hi TPP,

Thanks man, I just can't do it another way, I guess I'm like Donkey in the "Shrek" movie it's part of my nature, just can't shut-up! LOL

    Take care!

    KoolSIM

    Hi Aasim,

The phtoshop tricks are done in Photoshop CS2. And most of them are easily done. Though if you have previous version of Photoshop, it could be more difficult.

The simple way of doing the area highlight, is this:

First and FOREMOST, YOU CREATE A NEW LAYER OVER YOUR PIC.

    Then:

    1. Using the polygonal lasso tool, you draw a selection around the sector you want to highlight.

    2. When the selection is done, you go under the "Edit" menu and you chose the "Stroke" option, it's about midway in the list.

    3. in the Stroke dialog box, you choose the color you want for your stroke by clicking in the color box and then choosing a color in the color picker.

    4. you chose a pixel size for your stroke, I usually chose 4 pixels.

    5. Click OK

    6. Youl see your stroked selection over your pic.

    7. Now, at the bottom of the layers PALETTE, you'll see a small black symbol, (kind of a white "f" on a black circle), that's the layers style button, click on it and chose bevel and emboss in the list.

    8. Then in the next dialog box, you play with the controls until you get the effect you want, I usually use Inner bevel, smooth, 3 to 4 pixels deep

    9. in the very same dialog box you then click on the Drop shadow option

    10. then you adjust the drop shadow to the depth you want. (it's pretty straightforward)

    11. then click OK

    And that's about it.

For the other effect, it's a bit more complicated.

My guess is you should go to the Planet Photoshop website and look at some of their tutorials they are WAY better than me at explaining things, and if you would like to SEE experts at work and you have a fast internet connection go to Photoshop TV

and download their FREE weekly video podcast, it's simply incredible, those guys are simply the best. And you'll learn a LOT with them!

About the other effect, I'll see what I can do anyways, I'll try to whip up something and PM it to you.

    Godwin

Hey Godwin, If I remember you! Indeed I do!

Long time no see, and if I remember correctly, last time, we were talking about how education was important and must come before gaming, EVEN SC4! hehehe....

I'm doing fine thanks for asking, as for not seeing the pics, I guess it's probably because of your school network policy who is perhaps not permitting any links to imageshack.... I'm working with Macintosh computers for ten years, I'm even responsible for their maintenance, (software, hardware and security) and I have no problems seeing the pics I'm posting.

And you how are you faring in UK, how's school?

Too bad you can't see the pics...

Well very good to hear from you, wishing you the best!

    Do visit, when you can!

    Take care!

Aleking - AK's Eye Candy Album

    You wise guy!

I laughed out lout when reading it! You have a flair for the dramatics!

You made my day with those three words!

    Take care

    DONE IN ONLY TWO POSTS

    (the sequel)

FROM HERE ON, THOSE ARE THE ANSWER FOR PAGE 100!

IN ANDUIN VALLEY RECORDS IT BEGUN OFFICIALLY WITH FABIO'S INTRODUCTION

    Fabiocb - RASEC

    Fabio,

What can I say, besides thanks for that very kind welcoming! and as I told you in the PM, you were the one who opened the door, and by doing it helped me break that dreaded frontier! Now it's done and over with, we can continue the Journey, but I'll always remember what you did for me today my friend.

    gracias amigo!

VesterDK - VDK Production (Trams and Waterbus project)

Hi Vester, well just to put the record straight I did not beat Fabio, he posted BEFORE me, thus opening the door that nobody, including me, was going to open... by doing so he did me a great favor, allowing me to continue with my small presentation.

Now, right you are about me enjoying doing work in AVR, though I must admit that sometimes, I'm stuck on some sectors... but aren't we all at times!

If you liked that part of the industrial sector, well... stay tuned there'll be more of it soon!

    Take care!

Szarkoz - The Free Democratic Nation of Caledonia

Sarkoz that's one big cake! Everybody gater round, help yourselves! Have a piece...

hehehe, I certainly wish it could be that easy, because this celebration is due to the support of all those on that list!

hehehe... some of those pics surprised me, when I revisited my archives, the ketchup was the avatar of KB (ketchup boy) if I remember correctly, strange as they seem, they are ALL pictures who where posted in AVR mostly by all the readers, some from me.

Your support and kind comments are always appreciated, along with your positive "criticisim" ;-)

Looking forward to reading you again szarkoz!

    Take care

David (dedgren) - Three Rivers Region

    David,

    Thanks!

and might I add, the pleasure was mine my friend!

    Talk to you later

    -John

ThePeoplesPerson - The Tropics of Haalu

    Hey TPP,

    Wow, am I overwhelmed!...

Never typed like this in all AVR history! my wireless keyboard will need new batteries after this!

And yes the work on the collage itself took me around 12 to 15 hours of research, copy and paste, montage... well... you get the picture... (pun intended) ;-)

I must admit that I'm proud to have reached that mark, but what I'm most proud of, is the friendly and relaxed attitude every AVR readers seems to have towards one another, helping, offering suggestions and opinions, THAT for me is really something.

so thanks, and see you in your CJ.

    Godwin

Godwin, thanks for taking the time, and even if you don't see the pics, being here to offer your congratulations.... believe me, it's appreciated, a lot!

    Take care!

    Jacky (jacqulina) - Paradise Falls

Lassie, what can I say to you that I haven't said before...

You where there at the begining, and also there every step of the way, you have posted 168 times, which means more than one post per page.

Always encouraging and supportive, my friend you really are a busy bee!

    Take care

P.S. I've finished the Imageshack tutorial, I'm just now verifying if I forgot something, all there is to do afterward will be to post it.

    Should be very soon. DONE

    Wyldone

Hi Wyl, Long time ne see Man!

As for keepin' it up, I'll do until there's no more to be done in Anduin Valley!

    Take care

    Bow River Valley

    Phil,

This is one heck of a great compliment.

Please accept my heartfelt gratitude for it.

As for giving feedback to AVR visitors, I think I have the better part of the deal, the readers are giving me a lot too!

    New ideas, inspiration, support...

The collage took a lot of tome yes, mostly research, the colloage and montage itself was the fun part! It took about 12 to 15 hours... though I didn't calculate, but I worked on it for 3 to 4 weeks almost everynight. A bit here a bit there...

But don't think it was a chore... I really enjoy doing those things.

As for your penthouse, it was one of those pics that stick with you, even if you don't know why, it just does! That's why I've included it.

Again Phil, thanks for your gracious comment, as with everything in AVR, it'll be archived, for posterity! LOL

    Take care my friend

Chris - DragonAnime - Palm Point

Hi Chris, glad to see you here, as one who already breaked the 100 barrier!

So you know how much work there is behind the scene.

It really mean something to me.

Thanks, and see you in Darmokla!

Yoman3 - United Republic of Ankara

Wow, that's a first, a galaxy! for me!

**looking at my RL desktop cluttered with all kind of junk... mumbling to myself "now where will I put this!"...**

ahh... not to worry I'll find some place.

Thanks for the VERY original thought! It is truly appreciated.

    Micah - Kingwood

    Hi Micah,

Hehehe, yeah some things may be there more than once, the fact is at some point in the making of the collage, when seeing an avatar or a banner I was not quite sure it was there or not, so when in doubt I was adding it just to be sure of not forgetting anyone. And besides, it adds color!

how did I get the avatars? It's quite simple really, I saved each web page of the CJ... at the time it was just a a keepsake, but recently when I realized that AVR would probably make it to he 100 pages, the idea of using old pics came, and.... the rest is history!

    See you next time!

    Owenluby

    Welcome to Anduin Valley Owen.

thanks! as for the new goal.... well... I think from now on I'll take this one page at a time, enjoy the moment!

And try to do it as if each page was the most important, and truth is, it really is!

Thanks for taking the time to say hello

Come back anytime you feel like it

    Mikeaut1 - Touring Napoli Island

Hi Mike thanks for stopping by on this special occasion, I must tell you that you are inaugurating (sic) a new thing with this very reply. The weather is so beautiful this afternoon that l'm WRITING THIS yes writing, on my trusty old PDA while enjoying the sunny weather on my backyard swing.

Aqain, stop by anytime you want.

    you're truly welcome in AVR.

    Take care

Special Eddie - Oasis--The Wild West

    Hi Eddie,

Hehehe... such enthusiasm! You see, how could it be difficult for me to work on AVR when I have such a GREAT support.

    Take care

Slann - Viceroyalty of Dominea: Valmont

    Hi Slann,

Good to see you man! and thanks for the good words.

Sorry about your PC problems, unfortunately it's part of life....

Glad to know that AVR is stil capable of generating some ideas!

And please don't fee bad about missing a few updates.... just think of AVR as a port you like to visit after a lonq sea journey! (l should write poetry!..... Nahhhh!)

And l must say that l really appreciate the Horace citation!

    Take care Slann

Jason -(Aldara6166) - Modular Amusement park thread

Hey my friend thanks for stopping by! l appreciate it! About the 100 pages.... I agree with you... I was sure that AVR wouldn't last more than a few months!....

Waiting for your Amusement Park to begin the experiment.

    Regards to you and family

    MS (magpieshooter) - Kinata Region

    Hi ms

I think  l begin saving AVR pages after readinq about some CJ's being lost...

It's easy to do and it doesn't take that much space... last time l checked the folder was 650mb or something.

    Thanks for stopping by!

    Take care

    Sloppet – Anwakee – County

While preparing the collage, l realized that you are (probably) the person who had the most avatars in ST.

l  couldn't just choose only ONE!

So l took them all !

You've always been an actlve part in AVR my friend , and seeing you here for that special occasion, means a lot to me.

    Thanks.

    Bat

    Thanks Bat

    Enzo

    Welcome to AVR Enzo.

If you've read the first paqes, you must have read how Jeroni brought me back to the game. He truly ls in a class by himself, and a real gentleman. I am truly honored to read that you're seeing Jeroni's influence in AVR. Because, lf it wasn't for him there would not have been an AVR at all... A simple phrase made me do it, and I quote "Play WITH it, not AGAINST it.." end of quote

The power of words... It's all in there...

    Choco (Chocolatemax285) - Green Depra

    Hi Max,

First off, when something is done from the heart it's NEVER obnoxious, and second, I really like it!

I'm just using an excel sheet, I'm not a very organized person so I needed some "software help" to keep track of all the names!

The collage was really fun to do, brought back a lot of good memories.

To know that AVR is still inspiring to you, is really heartwarming (is that a word?) well I'm sure you get my meaning!

As I've said afew post above, I'll tak this one page at a time... 200 is really far away you know.

It's always good to reaf you Max

    See you in Green Depra!

    Take care

    freedo50

Well the collage did take a few hours, 12 to 15 or something like that. But really a fun thing to do.

And the list was not made to "cassify", but more as a way of showing the name of all of those who took some time to say Hello... or voice an opinion. In the end, each post is unique and always appreciated!

Looking forward to reading you again!

    Take care

    GMT - Greater Columbia River

    Hi Torben,

Thanks for your good words, As I said before for the old avatars it's very simple! I just saved each web page of AVR, so when you open the html file you have all the pics!

    650MB worth of 'em

    Thanks for the old link!

    Take care!

    Jacky (jacqulina) - Paradise Falls

Hi Jacky, no thanks necessary, I promised it to you so I do it. And besides, how could I not help my No1 poster!

We've watched (for the umptieth time, but I just like that movie) Calendar girls.

See you next time Jacky, enjoy the week!

    Going2Chicago

    wouanagaine - SC4 Terraformer a tool for regional hand-terraforming

    Hi wouanagaine,

Hehehe... no my friend I didn't make it in a day, it was a labor of 12 to 15 hours or so! I just noticed that you've chabged your avatar, and simply added it to the already (almost) completed collage. In fact you avatar was the very last piece to be added to it. Even after the written comment and signature...

Great to see you drop in for that special occasion, I appreciate that!

    Take care

    HamsterTK

    Yep, 3001

The characer in the avatar is indeed from Tintin, his name's Piotr Szut, ( Piotr Skut in the english version) seen in (Those are the french title by the way) "Coke en stock" and "Vol 714 pour Sydney"

    Take care!

David (dedgren) - Three Rivers Region

Now it's your turn to tease I guess!

hehehe... I'm just trying to help a friend David, I really don't think I'm good at explaining, in fact when I read it afterwards I find it more complicated than the "real" thing!

Hey, have a fabulous trip in Texas, watch out not to go west of the Pecos though! You might very well meet Roy Bean's grandson.... though you being a lawyer....

    Take care my friend!

    Shawnie

    Tracker - Graph X Services

    Hi Tracker,

Well to tell you the truth I don't think either Fred (mrbisonm) or me are in any competition, I have a great respect for the dedication he's given to Nexis over the last two years. And not only that, but I simply like his little and very special lots!

Thanks for comming to celebrate that special moment.

    See you soon!

    Take care!

    A hundred pages....

    wow....

I'm just trying to figure out how this could have happened.....

It just began as a small experiment, trying to complete a small region map, thought that it would be over in a few weeks or at the most a few months!

We're now over 1 year and 4 months after this small debut, and now.... geez....

People I've said it often, but it's the essential truth, without your support, this CJ would have withered away.

Those hundred pages are also YOUR success.

For that occasion I want to simply say this:

Thank you all, you are the greatests!

    In the meantime

Take care and enjoy life 10.gif

Hi Darmok, I hope you had a great weekend filled with fun and relaxation, now to your update, Lovely setup fo the water tower and the trash incinerator, and the use of the noise barriers near the Intermodal just a fantastic touch of realism, like it very much, I can see in one of the overview a big blank space almos in the middle of the map I'm guessing big plans for that, In the mean time have a nice week see you on Friday

That had probably been a lot of work with replying those comments! Although, I'm sure it was a pleasure 1.gif having so much fans, hehe...

Well, let's move to today's update. That's a nice way you've done the overpass, I like the use of jeronij's retaining walls. I think it looks much nicer to make slopes by raising the terrain, they're more gentle and as I said - with the retaining walls they're great.

Nice place for garbage site, far away from people. No bad smell at all for inhabitants 2.gif

Also a good spot for Outdoor World. I only don't like that street which "tries" to be diagonal, but I suppose it can't be fixed unless you delete diagonal streets option from NAM... So I think I can live with that 2.gif

Intermodal depot now looks better. It would look great if it only had dirt all around instead of grass. But I don't know if that's possible?

Very good work on that update my friend, and again - big congratulations for reaching 100 pages, plus now, also for reaching 3000 replies!

    I'm looking forward to more!

    Hey John.

    1 year and 4 months?

That is truly incredible my good friend44.gif I took a brief look at AV when it first began and have noticed the amazing improvments you have made with your skills since then. I'm not even sure you took a break over that time46.gif. Regardless this is certainly one of my favorite (if not THE favorite) CJ's. Great job mate...

Nice update there!  Gotta love how the NAM can solve funny little problems like that.  Nice rework on the intermodal depot!  The overview of this town looks great.  Almost done 1/3 of the town now I see.

I like the way to build a 90 degree overpass. I saw it before in Kinata. Second time I've seen that.

Great update once again! Wow, typing all those responses must have taken the better half of forever! NAM is great, myself, I've just begun to use a lot of its potential with overpasses and leveled transitions from slopes. It really can lead to some interesting interchanges that are always cool to see in other journals, since so much creativity can be exercised with it.
