Hi John!

Nice commercial spot! Good use of the PEG alley (one of those nice things I use way too less ...). It fits with the small terminus.

Good use of the PEG RTK water plant. I just never understood why PEG combined with the RTK3 - IMHO the rather fancy RTK3 just don't fit with such a facility!

The seafood place with the rain effects reminds me of some parts on the German coast - and of a holiday I made 15 years ago along the German Baltic Sea Coast. A very rainy one that is. On the last day before I left the sea I decided I couldn't not make a summer holiday at the sea without swimming in the sea. So I directly into the water until it became too cold to me, then I went on the beach until it became too cold and so on. I did this three or four times then I decided it was enough and went back to the (warm because heated ...) Youth Hostel ..

Take care!

That was a fantastic update my friend!  Oh, I've missed Anduin valley recently!  Damn exams, I'm sorry for not being around mate, I have bookmarked this so hopefully I won't miss another update!

There was something about this update that was sweet, simple and beautiful.  The shops are very realistic and cute!  Its such a pretty neighbourhood, I love it, and I would love to live there!

And amazingly anduin valley returns from its state of eternal sunshine to let the night in for one beautiful image!  3.gif  Just kidding, great night shot!

Haha, I love how you have the seafood restaurant next to the water purifier, there is something about that that  find amusing!  Hehe, anyway, as always you excel yourself every update!

Cheers mate, choco.

    Bat

Glad you liked it Bat, the alleys I've made with the Lot Editor (LE),

For the antennas just look at the links section. Though I couldn't find the grey one!

    EDITED: Found it sunday night!

    Take care

    MS (magpieshooter) - Kinata Region

    Hi MS, thanks!

Special Eddie - Oasis--The Wild West

Just a simple photoshop trick, on the topic of real rain in simcity, I know that gizmo made a weather mod, though I haven't used it yet, so I don't know if it includes rain. I just hope that it doesn't ruin the circuitry in my monitor!

As for the passport, I don't know about cash money, but I've heard that it reaches a pretty high price on the chocolate chip cookie black market! ;-)

    Take care!

    Anubis - anubis' cities

For the links, see above in the links section of update 8 in the previous page.

The other link is comming in a few minutes! DONE

Yeah, it's kind of a high tech sector!

I think that doing some rain from time to time could be refreshing (pun intended!)

And in fact I'm glad that szarkoz pointed the street problem, because It was not the look I wanted, so it forced me to rethink the whole thing, and finally just by typing the reply, the idea popped in mind! all was left to do was to fire up the LE and have fun!

    See you!

Chris - DragonAnime - Palm Point

Hi Chris, well I hope it was the right link. If not just say the word!

I think I'll try gizmo weather mod, just to see what it does...

    Take care!

Szarkoz - The Free Democratic Nation of Caledonia

I sure hope that you'll continue to "criticize" ;-)  my work, it makes me rethinks some details I was just to lazy to change. And I must admit that I like it WAY better now!

And it's also raining here as I type!

I don't use that water reclamation station very often, but I like how it looks.

    Thanks szarkoz, take care!

    P.S. Thanks for the citizenship!

Battlecat - Terra - An evolving region

Hi Battlecat, good eye on this, yes it's the ploppable water, after seeing how good David (dedgren) Three Rivers Region is at creating streams and ponds with it, I've decide to give it a shot! And I think it's not half bad. (see more pics on this below)

    Thanks

    Brandon – AbsoluteHalo

Hi Brandon, Welcome to Anduiin Valley.

As I'm curious by nature (nobody's perfect ;-), I saw your web site link in your profile, I went there and had a peek....

You have talent, that web site contains beautiful photos, and not only that, your site itself is really elegant and tasteful, things we rarely see on the net. Speaking of your photographs, the one titled Chuck and Briley is a superb composition it "flows" very naturally, if this is simply a snapshot hats off to you! Oh, I must also say that Dakota "cracked" me up!  18.gif

Back on topic now, I must say that your kind post touched me, and moreso after I saw the quality of your photographs!

Thanks for your visit, and looking forward to reading you again!

    Regards

    John

Benedict - The Mayors of Ellis Valley

Hi Benedict, I agree that the rain effect does add a certain "je ne sais quoi", that bring a bit of variety! As for the effort for the updates, I should say that, for me, taking the time to answer those who took some of their time to post a comment here, is simple and basic courtesy, and moreso it's now kind of part of my daily routine and I enjoy the interaction.

And as for the links, I have received so much help in this matter on other CJ's that it's a simple question of returning the favor in a fashion!

    Take care!

    Rhéal – rw0381c

    Salut Rhéal!

Hé oui citoyen! Pour ta maison, tu n'as qu'a simplement me dire celle que tu veux!

For the residence, simply point out which one you like and I'm sure we'll be able to acomodate you!

And before saying that your attempts are lacklustre, you should post them and let the community be the judge. Perhaps you could begin by posting some pics in the Show us your accomplishment thread?

Thanks for those kind words, and see you next time my friend!

    Take care

    Passe une bonne semaine!

    P.S. Tu est le bienvenu!

    GMT - Greater Columbia River

    Hi Torben,

Your point is right on the money and pertinent, consider it duly noted. I honestly didn't thougt about using those ending pieces. hummmmm.... (this part is edited... we're now two days later, I've tried using the right and left ending pieces, but as their surface is made of red bricks instead of concrete, and with their statues and festive ambiance, they don't match really well, I've tried to modified them in the LE to change their texture, but I guess they're part of a .dat group cause I can't locate them. If someone can tell me how to extract them I'll sure try my hand at it.)

You had a very good observation and I'll keep the idea in mind until I can correct the situation.

    Thanks for your insight!

    Take care

    Going2Chicago

    Hi G2C

Not a bad idea at all! I'll see what I can do, though it won't be until the second half of Anôrien, I just began the north shore saturday.

    Take care!

    Rayden - New Haven

    Hola Sylvio!

Thanks for the compliments about the antennas sector, this particular spot in Anôrien had me puzzled for at least a week! building and blasting and doing again.... and at one point I thought... TV studio and antenna, and then it turned into antennas! and then well... you saw it.

The passport is only a (very) small token of appreciation for the interest you showed until now for AVR, and I'm glad you appreciate.

Yep the small lots at the back f the station I did myself with the LE.

    Take care!

    GaBoR - Oro Bruno

Hola GaBor, ¿qué tal? (attempt at some spanish greeting!)

It good to know you appreciate the "how-I-did-it" AVR style, I really don't pretend to show this as a tutorial, but more to show one way it can be done, I've always like to learn new things, and this way if it can help someone all the while being (a bit) interesting, then I'm glad!

    Take care

Luker91 - San Lucas: My first CJ

Hey Luke, I've looked again at pic 2 and was wondering what you meant by "bumpy" if you're meaning small hill, it was simply that I wanted that small sector to be a bit higher than the station and have a good view of the distant riverfront.

    See you!

    Threestooges

Hi threestooges, ice cream you say? Hummm... tempting, tempting... more on this later.

Judging by the downloads, I guess that it was (the small parking lot) somewhat needed, it's always good to know that your work is appreciated.

About the free time, I must say that I'm trying to find some. But in the end it's sums up like this, we all have the time, but we have to TAKE it... we have to make some choices, on my part I've really cut on my TV viewing.

I've always deplore the lack of parking space in RL cities, so when I play SC4, it's payback time, parkings here, parking there! It's easy when you don't have to foot the bill.  18.gif

Yes those house are different, as they grew like this, and the sector in itself was not disparate so I decided to keep them.

The Ice cream deal still on? Allright!

I'll have Ben and Jerry's "Chocolate Fudge Brownie", and to hell with the diet!

    Take care!

    Tracker - Graph X Services

    Hi Tracker, thanks!

    KoolSIM – Aasim

Hey Aasim, Thanks, and don't mention it for the links, I'm sure that it was useful for someone. And don't remind me about maintaining a lean Plugin folder, mine is getting (again) out of control! 34.gif

    Take care!

    ThomasAH - Zorturia

Hi Thomas, for the water pump see the links section above

    Take care!

Jacky (jacqulina) - CJ: "Just wanted to show you my terraforming"

Hey Jacky, really good to see you! Sit and have a cup of coffee, or may I suggest a cup of my favorite tea, Earl Grey. But I'm afraid I don't have scones though! ;-)

    Enjoy your week!

P.S. Hoping you'll be able to repair your video card!

Bernhard (Nardo) - Urland a (mostly) rural coastline

Hi Bernhard, I agree with you about the choice of the RTK3 with the water plant, I've tried (after Torben/GMT suggestion) to add those rounded RTK3 end pieces, but their red bricks walkways is a very bad match with the cement surface of the water treatment plant lot. And besides could not find them with the LE, so couldn't edit them either!

Brrrrr.... I'm not sure I would have folowed you in that cold water!

Glad to hear you're getting back on track (pun intended) with Urland!

    Take care my friend!

    Choco (Chocolatemax285) - Green Depra

    Hi Max,

Hope that the exams went well, don't worry, I know what RL is, and you don't have to be sorry for it.

I should take more night pics, they have a certain "flair" that in certain circumstances that a day shot can't render.

After installing the water station, I was wondering what could go well alongside and the restaurant came to mind the combination just seemed akward enough to work, there are some example of this in RL of certain places becoming trendy even (or sometimes because) being situated in some "strange" spots!

So I guess that this was just another weird hunch...

BTW I'm really proud that you've chosen one of my entries in your city naming contest. Proud to see that there's a part of Anduin Valley lore in Green Depra now.

    See you there mate!

    Take care

Yoman3 - United Republic of Ankara

Hi Yoman, thanks, and as you can see, sometimes a reader's observation can bring some changes, and Szarkoz helped by being analytical, and he was right, the first setup was not that great. And in the end it forced me to use the LE and thus gaining a bit more experience with it.

    Thanks for your good words!

    Take care!

    NOTES OF INTEREST :

First, I must underline the fact that in the following pics, you'll notice that the railway station setup is not modified, it's pefectly normal, the correction was made AFTER Bruinen Fjord was completed, so I didn't redo all the pics showing the station. Furthermore, as this is a small update (8 pics) I've included some pics of experimentations I'm doing with ploppable water in Anôrien, you can blame this on David (dedgren) from which I've learned a lot on this matter by reading his CJ Three Rivers Region . My main problem was to find a way of sending the ploppable water underground, to have a somewhat plausible "ending" of the stream, this was, the situation "before"

    upthecreek6xy.jpg

I was not satisfied, so again I opened the LE and went hunting for a stone culvert or something that could look like it, and finally came up with this solution. This is the "after" picture.

    zzavrculvertafterzz9lf.jpg

I admit that it's not yet what I want, but it's better than nothing.

And now, after those detours, dear readers, without further ado, here's....

Just a moment there, I'm still looking for a funny quote.... This one? Naaah too serious, of that one! hummm.... no.. x-rated, HA! here's one... It's from Gordon Kirkland, a canadian humorist which I didn't know BTW, but read about him recently, and it's about teenagers eating habits, It's not an exact quote, but here's the rough idea ---"You know you're in trouble, when the groceries are dissapearing between the car trunk and the kitchen counter!" ---- I hesitate this time saying food for thought! ;-)

As usual each and everyone of your comments are appreciated, and kept jealously! (I have saved each AVR pages so far!)

Thanks to all of you for your support!

    See you friday.

    In the meantime

Take care and enjoy life  10.gif

    Evening mate!

My exams did go well thanks, I got a good number of As so I was happy! Almost worth taking the time of simcity... almost!

Great update mate, your experiment with ploppable water is very exciting, it looks very nice, especially after you added that cute little bridge!  Very nice.  you use the flora very well.

Ah, such quick development!  You are the master of this!

The hospital is very nice, and great to see you really take care of your patients, there is nothing I hate more than no parking around hospitals!

That region is looking great my friend, your design as always is top notch.  The thing I love most about this CJ is the high quality of everything!  Your pictures, your design, your complete dedication to going to every personal comments name and giving it a link (I never knew before coming here how many viewers of CJs actually have them!  The system seems very self-sustainable.) is just lovely!  I envy you, I wish I had the time to put as much effort into GD as you do to Anduin Valley.  Oh, and I hope you don't mind that I borrowed your idea of grouping the links at the top.  It makes it much easier!

Anyway, great update as always!  Cheers mate!

PS. I am just as honoured to have a little piece of Anduin Valley in Green Depra.

Luker91: That's the original "Columbus" modd by cycledogg. He also has another suite of terrain modds. I recommend the Olympic one, but be careful: read my guide to get the file, don't get it from the STEX. (It's so green, ChocolateMax uses it for Green Depra!)

    once more a great update!

yes, the ending pieces are part of a dat managed system, so you got to search in the open window of the LE until you found them... they MUST be in there, so I think you'll get a result sooner or later.

as for the new update, I love all those shots of the new development.

    waiting for more

Well, I must say I really like the alley which is in backyards of those rowhomes, pretty realistic, I sometimes use the same alleys too. I like the look of those two high brown buildings, maybe they a bit stand out but in a good way. They're just noticable.

Bruinen Fjord looks nice so far, but quite low wealth. This is something unusual in AVR 1.gif

I keep looking forward to more!

That hospital is great. The school's infirmary was beginning to fill up with so many students practicing the "comedic eye-gouge." Dr. Curly I believe had started work on a cure but I don't know if it was ever perfected. I'm not sure if I have asked this before, but hwere did you get the smaller plants shown around the creek (the lily pads etc)? I'm starting to run out of superlatives, but I'll keep trying as long as you do. Keep it up.

    John:

    ...ploppable water...

I admit that it's not yet what I want, but it's better than nothing.quote>

    You nailed it.

A few observations:  As you know, I have a particular approach to how surface water is integrated into the landscapes I create.  Looking at your pics convinces me that there are other ways that offer just as much as the methods I use.  Dense low foliage on the shore coupled with judicious placement of water flora plants looks awfully good the way you do it.

Maybe, though, as at least one CJ reader has said to me, your results are not reproducable by others...there can, after all, be only one Leonardo, one Bach, one Einstein.  I think the answer lies in getting some folks together to systematically attack the deficiencies in what we have to work with now, surface water-wise, and developing a related group of lots and plops that open the field to everyone.

Bruinen Fjord is awfully easy on the eyes.  The gentle slopes of the roads and streets just carry the viewer around the town.  I never thought I'd say this about anything by SimGoober, but his hospital almost looks like 50s concrete architecture of the brutalist school in among all those other brown, tan and ochre buildings.  In short, just like real life- it's the dissonant elements of a cityscape that sometime serendipitously draw the thing together as a whole.  I like it!

See you 'round here.  I'm never far away from AVR.

    David

Gosh, missed your Friday update. the weather is too hot here in the Netherlands to sit in front the PC at home and at work I had to tour some guests. So Finally on tuesday I come around to see that i almost also missed the Monday update. Gulp.

Great work these updates. Sorry to see that the solar power plant misses the road acces so how did the cars get there? (Deja Vue).

I love that sea side restaurant. The area around the station also looks great and that new area with those two high rises and SG hospital. WOWZERS!!

I like what you did with the small terminal sttaion that dirt road looks very fitting there.

What can I say more. You surpassed yourself.

Take care and enjoy your family.

BTW your food for thought is already applicaple at 6 years old who tend to disappear with the bag of potato chips as soon as I put bthem out of the car after a shopping tour. So I am indeed in for something in 10 years time.

Beautiful update as always Darmok 44.gif!   The hospital and surrounding neighborhoods turned out excellent.  I really liked the underground parking garage, very creative use of the raised parks, and they fit in surprisingly well in between those two more classical buildings.  That stream was also one of the best usages of flora that I have ever seen, it looked so peaceful and realistic.  I can't wait to see the rest of Bruinen Fjord!

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!

Thank you for reading and enjoy the site!
