I am stil wondering. THat old downtown looks soo great. I found those buildings, I even use 'em. 4.gif Anyway, it is interesting, that I had no 1x2 tile big corner W2W R$! But now I have a different question: how did you managed to build those parking lots?

Good ol' Liberty Islands! Someday, I'll repost my old CJ.

Hi everyone, no it's not an update,

this is just a shameless plug.

But before flaming me, you can blame this on Shadow Assassin and Nik-Nik who asked if I would upload my Cycleway Parking lot to the Stex.

Well after several hours of tweaking, 46.gif cause there were some issues I wanted to correct before uploading it, as well as preparing the readme file, the pics... well you get the...picture !  2.gif

So long story short, it's now on the STEX

For those of you interested here's the link

    Cycleways Parking Lot by darmok

And here's a peek at it.

Full answers to every post with friday's update!

    John,

you may ask why I haven't commented in a while..but to be honest, you've had me stunned, everything looks stunning. I love your use of old buildings.. they remind me of the ones around Darmokla. ( 2.gif )  I really like a few of the buildings around your cities.. especially this one in the picture here:

    04zzup07avbruinenpiczz9ht2.jpg

Did you download that, or does it come with the game?

And those old european buildings in the pictures below?

    Thanks.

    wouanagaine - SC4 Terraformer a tool for regional hand-terraforming

You see you commented on both updates anyway! So no problem.

I also like that small motel, BATS of great buildings are a good thing, but those small ones are often my favorites! And Goober did an incredible job with this one.

Take care! (and should I add another one "take care" WINK )

Kant01 - The Mystic County Project

Hi Kant, hey don't make me blush here!

I'm just following in the footsteps of others! And perhaps adding an insane touch here and there! LOL

Thanks for those kind words and take care

Mightygoose - Vil-valad, a city and its roots

Hehehe, I was so pressed up by time when I tried to post my update, that I actually copied the previous update IMG codes.... But some of you were so quick on the response that I didn't have the time to correct the situation right away.

Porkissimmo make really different bats! And this fire station is one of the best looking one!

As for the plain texture on those building, though the first ones grew by themselves it was exactly what I was looking for! I wanted very dense looking apartment buildings for blue collars, and those fitted great, not luxurious but not dingy either.

As for Peterson Tools being bright, although the look of most of the industrial buildings is more subdued, once in a while you have companies that relies on their bright colors as an advertisement scheme, IKEA for instance, or Black and Decker...

    Take care!

    GMT - Greater Columbia River

    Thanks Torben!

Bokrif (TWICE) - Liberty Island coming soon

    ONCE

Hi Bokrif, Welcome to Anduin Valley

Yes, I don't even want to begin to calculate the number of hours since the beginning of AVR, If I was to do an approximation, I'd say that I'm doing an average of an hour per day. And I began AVR in february 2005, so 1 year and 4 months ago meaning around 500 days so about 500 hours but I'm guessing that reality is kinda worse than that! WINK

As for the buildings, if your talking about the grey apartment buildings, see the links section at the top.

Looking forward to reading you again.

    Take care

    TWICE

    Hey That was fast! ;-)

The parking lots are PEG'S MTP small parking lots, links at the top section!

PS - Your avatar is really nice!

Benedict - The Mayors of Ellis Valley

    Thanks Benedict!

    Bat (TWICE)

    Thanks man!

    Tracker - Graph X Services

Hey Tracker, I just use the unsharp filter on some overview to get more crisp details.

    Take care

Battlecat - Terra - An evolving region

Thanks Battlecat, yep those buildings are really good looking.

    Take care

ThePeoplesPerson - The Tropics of Haalu

    Hey TPP

Don't mention it, glad to help!

It took me a few tries to understand how it worked, (as usual I should have read the readme file and the tutorials), but once you get the hang of it, it's really simple... hey I can do it, anyone can!

And yes transit enabled lots add a lot of realism!

    Take care

Rayden - THRICE! - New Haven

Hey Sylvio, you were on a roll this time around!

    ONCE

Hehehe, as I often say, drool and keyboard do not mix well! Be carefull, perhaps a bib should be in order? ;-)

    TWICE

Thanks for helping, szarkoz and GaBor

    THRICE

I don't mind at all Sylvio, and I'm sure that anubis was glad to have his answer faster than usual!

In conclusion, thanks (thrice) and take care (once! hehehe...)

    GaBoR - Oro Bruno

Hey GaBor, For the links just look at the links section at the top.

And thanks for your kind words!

    Take care

Szarkoz - The Free Democratic Nation of Caledonia

    Hey Szarkoz,

Well, I think we'll never have the control over the weather! Fortunately... If we had I'm sure we would make a big mess of it! We should let nature do it's job.

Burglars! where??? Well, I rather have the cycleways anyway, and as for the burglars, when we catch them you know what we do? We make them work on the cycleways! Build new ones and repair the old ones! ;-)

I used those ones instead of S_A's regular ones, cause I wanted a more "bare" look more in tune with a "lower middle-class" environment. I didn't intend to have a lot of mansion and the like in that sector. That's the mean idea behind that choice. But on an aesthetic note I do agree with you.

For the railway station, I just wanted kind of an easy access for the station workers, hummm... I just had an idea while typing this, you made me rethink this.. would this looks better? Fired up the LE yesterday and had fun with some small lots.

    zzavbrfrdcorrectionzz8aw.jpg

And as I'm often complaining about the lack of parking space in RL! ;-) I try to place a lot of them in my own cities!.

Thanks for that in depth look, my friend.

    Take care

Bernhard (Nardo) - Urland a (mostly) rural coastline

Hey! I was wondering what happened to you Bernhard!

Gald to see that all seem OK for now.

Moscow, Boss, Tooth, Boot Partition! Sheesh! When it rain it pours hey? I really hope that all is going to be OK soon! It can't be always sh&?&*ty!

Yeah I agree about the simplicity of the old tools, BUT, besides the awkwardness of the process, the results are much more beautiful than they were in those version.

Yep that roundabout, to tell you the truth I was too lazy to change it...(shame on me) I had the idea of replacing it with a small park with a street around it to make it more like a small square, but...sigh...laziness, laziness!

Hey I was wondering about that, the problem with the absence of texture with the onslope piece! perhaps it will be fixed with the next NAM version...

The playground conundrum! It was first intended only for the houses in that sector, but soon children indeed climbed the fences, and for Mrs. Miller strawberries, **looking around**  22.gif

shsshhh! I've always blamed the kids, don't blow my cover!

The intermodal depot setup will be modified soon, and will be more efficient, I'll await your comments on the new one.

As for citing you as a reference, it was perfectly natural, BUT it had the effect of sending a couple of new readers to your CJ, so now you'll have more pressure to update! ;-)

About the worker's houses, what I do to avoid the historical problem, is this, as soon as some buildings are growing, I make them historical, even if they are not what I want! and then I bulldoze them, the ones that grow to replace them keep the historical setting, the only downside, is to keep blasting until you get what you want, if not, well what is growing will stay there!

Yeah page 96....like we say in french here "J'en reviens pas!" an approximate english translation would be "I still can't believe it!"...

Hoping that you'll be able to repair that boot partition and that you didn't loose any critical data.

Really good to have some news Bernhard, enjoy your weekend!

    Mach's Gut!

    Anubis - anubis' cities

Hi Anubis, the motels is Goober's Red's Motel Links at the top!

    Take care!

EDITED (Already answered by Rayden thanks Sylvio!)

Luker01 - San Lucas: My first CJ

Hi Luke, Welcome to Anduin Valley.

Hats off to you for being so patient!

As for the parking space thing, I'm not a big city person, and everytime I go to the city and must hunt (and that is almost an exact expression!) for a parking space, I tend to loose patience!

So at least in my cities I have some control so I put as many parking space I can!  18.gif

AS for Bruinen Fjord, well I wanted to try some other kind of zoning perhaps for the moment less eye-candy looking, but, give it time, it may still surprise you!

Come any time you feel like it!

Looking forward to reading you again!

    Take care

    Sorchin – Developping Macedon

    Hi Steve,

I'm just having fun with the LE and SC4Tool, it's easy when the others have done most of the work. Working with the LE is like playing with LEGO blocks, the only difficulty is finding the good piece! (which sometimes is quite long).

As for the speech....nahhhh! I'm sure that threestooges and his students would wait for me with their cream pies, so I think I'll try something else if you don't mind! (though I have a small project in mind).

    Take care

    S_A_ (Shadow_Assassin) - The Savannah Way

    Hi SA,

I wrote Jeroni, who kindly, (and very quickly I might add) accepted that I upload it.

If it's not already uploaded by the time you read this, it shouldn't be long. Just for me to find the dependencies, prepare a small readme and upload it!

    Thanks Mate!

    Take care

    Nik-nik

    Allright.... allright!

    I surrender  18.gif

I'll upload it... (perhaps already done) EDITED : DONE!

As for the intersection piece I'll see with Dan if I can send them directly to you.

I'll send a PM, but these days he's very hard to catch! Working like crazy, so I'll keep you informed.

Don't mention it for the link, always glad to help!

Update 6, the small patch, I had to keep it here until I finished working in the area, cause everytime I had to rework the intersection, the terrain was raising ever so slightly making a small demarcation line near the Peterson Tool building. (should have deleted it before taking the pic though, I'm disgraced! Where's my katana! I shall end this shame!)....NAAAHHHH 20.gif , I wouldn't I'm afraid of blood!

At the time I was working on BF Jeroni's street mod was not out yet. I finished BF around January 8... so! In fact, it was finished BEFORE Tolfalas.

Yep it's Porkissimo Fire Station, one of the best looking Fire station IMO. We should ask Jason (aldara) if it's "real looking".

    Enjoy your weekend!

    KoolSIM

Thanks KS, The parking lot and the Motel (on pic 12 though) are on the STEX, just see the link section at the top.

    Take care

Thanks for your appreciation, and the welcoming to page 97.....  46.gif

Special Eddie - Oasis--The Wild West

Hey Eddie, glad you appreciate it, and don't worry, I'm very fond of italian food! So I'll take your fettucini and raise you two lasagnas!

    Vinlabsc3k

Hi Vinlab, Welcome to Anduin Valley!

I hope my PM helped you with your problem, if there's still something just ask, I'll try to help!

Chris - DragonAnime - Palm Point

    Hi Chris,

Thanks my friend, me! stunning you? Hehehe... Flattery will lead you... well it's good to hear anyway!

The buildings, well just look at the links section at the top. And I assume you're talking about the grey looking buildings... (cause there's no picture below your phrase)

Anyhow I've put links for both.

    See you in Darmokla!

    Take care

Another update gone by, and with it the dreaded ending message... What could I say more... nothing but thanks!  44.gif

And perhaps this little quote from Einstein: QUOTE "Laws alone can not secure freedom of expression; in order that every man present his views without penalty there must be spirit of tolerance in the entire population."....end of quote

And where do you get the things like aerials?

    John,

Actually I was talking about the pic in your update not my post.  2.gif  But, thanks for the links!

The rain effects are excellent.  I've found a way to add rain and clouds in there so it looks like a hurricane is happening.  It especially looks good on region views.  4.gif

I have been spending a lot of my time on Simtropolis right here in the City Journal forum. I've become quite a bit picky about what CJs I view and which ones I explore in a more detailed post by post manner. So far I've been a bit of a lurker, but I had to post on this CJ to say that after skimming through on several occasions and experiencing several moments of inspiration for my own CJ I plan on beginning a very thorough trek back across the 97 pages of this inspiring CJ.

"Anduin Valley" has become one of the must view CJ's on my list and it is safe to say that I will be back. I've learned a lot about the inner workings of SC4 by viewing this CJ and I only hope to get more input and inspiration as I progress back through the many updates I have yet to see. Good luck to you and good luck to "Anduin Valley".

Ah bon, je suis citoyen maintenant. Je dois t'admettre, ca me rechauffe le coeur!

Your cities are just so amazing, it's an honor to be a citizen of any of them, however, I will definitely choose Bruinen Fjord as my place of virtual residence. It's always fun seeing you put any of my lacklustre attempts at city building to shame, however, because of people like yourself, I am getting better!

    Merci encore!!!

what a wonderful update. It looks very beautiful!

there's one thing I'd suggest concerning the water treatment fac. in the 12th pic: you gotta smooth the transition from from rtk to real rock with a corner lot of the pack, it would make it look way more real imo

Well, you take me by surprise on each of your updates, but on this one you really have exceed yourself, and I'm not talking about another excelent update (Those anthenas??? on the night shot, another piece of art), but the great honour you've presented me with a AVR passport. Thx mate, I'll be using it for sure. I will have to carefully choose where to live.

Anyway I'll let you know later. About that first pic, the train station, did you do that yourself? Very nice job. 2.gif

Well done. I'm glad you uploaded that parking lot. I think I know just what to do with it. If I ever get enough free time to devote to a cj you'll see it. But enough about me. You've helped me figure out what my commercial spaces lack... parking. You use it to good effect, your commercial districts look so much better with it. The waterfront looks great. Small but efficient for what is needed. The only thing that strikes me as "off" are the houses in pic 09. They look completely different from the rest in the town. I guess that's what development will do... in with the new. Congratulations to the new citizens: SpecialEddie, rw0381c, and Rayden. Swing by the comedy school sometime, ice cream is on the house.

Superb Update!! I particularly love Night-Pictures, so I loved that last picture!! And the last picture reminds me of a sea-side restaurant not far-away from my home....Aah! Simply Beautiful!

Thanks for the links! Sorry to bother you though, but when I downloaded them and put them in my plugins folder, turns out that I already had them. Well, I guess I have just too many plugins right now in my Plugins folder, so figuring out which one I have and which one I don't have is a big up-hill task. I have the time to sort that out now. Just finished my Final Exams and am now ready to play!!

    Take Care!
