wow darmok , this is definately a great piece of art , i think this CJ took many time , so its great to see the results ...

maybe its me but it looks like you are trying to let your cities looks like Jeronij's cities , and you've accomplished that , the realism of Jeronij's CJ and yours is undiscripeble

keep this up

Thanks, and for the buildings we must realize how much thanks we owe to all batters who work their b** off to produce those wonderful lots, if not for them SC4 would just be another game. What makes it this good is the community that thrives around it! And glad you liked the tutorial! 19.gif

    Ma8thew
Thanks for the compliment, and please you may pick up you jaw now! 18.gif

    Dhoppe
Hey man! We'll probably see each other over a pint at Maggot's anyway. The houses are named, garcia houses, Roosevelt houses, and also some other names, I'm on my lunch break so I can't verify.. I'll check tonight and give you a correct answer. In the mean time I think that I also use those :

Thanks for your appreciation dhoppe it's always greatly appreciated! 44.gif

    YAH
What goes between you and Ol Maggot is your business, 22.gif and knowing Maggot personally, I think that he wanted you near the Brewery for a very good reason!!! Thanks for the compliments, 48.gif and glad to see that you liked the tutorial, cause I don't think I'm that good at explaining things. 20.gif

Welcome to Anduin Valley!, thanks for the comments, that's what's keep us CJers going you know! 19.gif
As for the terraforming, see the tutorial above, and for the tunnelling just follow that link :

    jacqulina
Say no more, just go to the Sheraton Four Points in Belfalas, and mention my name, there's always a suite available for those who posts in Anduin Valley. Thank you and have fun. And also glad that you liked the tutorial and I hope it can be of any help. 19.gif

    Timbuk2
Welcome to Anduin Valley! Thanks for the kind words, and just see the tutorial above for the link to Peg leveler tools. 49.gif

    DTangent
Welcome to Anduin Valley. Thanks for the visit, and as for the concrete walls, the best tip I can give you is this : the longer you terraform BEFORE plopping them, the easier it is! The main trick is this, even if your LOWER terrain is in a certain grade or slope, as long as you terraform the UPPER terrain to be LEVEL or fairly so by plopping single road patches adjacent to each other, then the concrete walls when plopped should be aligned quite correctly. Hope this'll help you! You can also read this thread : https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=57079

Thanks for the thumb(s) up KOSC, and glad to see that I could be of any help! 29.gif

Long time no see! Glad you like the CJ Pooty, And thanks for your appreciation! 44.gif

    Swamper
Man you're GOOD.... That was EXACTLY it, it was PEG Pine trails railroad crossing, at it is a shame because I really like that lot. Do you think it could be possible to do it without removing the dirt texture?
A BIG THANKS to you Swamper.

    creilmann
First, Welcome to Anduin Valley. Thanks for your compliments 43.gif
I'm glad that you like the presentation, and as for the patience to do it, it's not so bad cause after a few updates you learn how to do it more efficiently, and anyway I like doing it that way!

The parks, what can I say I love nature! I come from a little town alongside the St-Lawrence River, where we could either go to the beach (sand is almost as beautiful as Daytona, but the water is cold though!) or go fishing and all within a few minutes drive! And I've worked 8 years, 70 miles up in the forest in bush planes doing surveillance for forest fires. And even if I'm not there anymore, my love for the forest and nature is always there! And yes the batters and modders are spoiling us with those great park lots. 3.gif

Whew that was a long answer, anyhow thanks again and welcome! 44.gif

    Shadow_assassin
Welcome to Anduin Valley, and thanks for your good comments! 29.gif

    Alkaola
Thanks a lot for your comments, piece of art... 43.gif , yes it does take time, but everything worthwhile does! As for Jeroni's influence is concerned, it cant be denied he is the one who gave me the push I needed to go and do it. In my opinion he's the best terraformer in town! 44.gif

Geez.... never had so many posters, I LOVE IT! 3.gif

So still working on update 8, should be done by tomorrow.

Thanks for your GREAT SUPPORT, with a VERY SPECIAL THANKS to SWAMPER77 for his help, thanks man!

    See you next update

    Take care

    Darmok,

The no dirt mod should be a separate dat file. The file name of this mod is: SWAMPER-PEG_NoRailDirt_MOD_205. If that file isn't in your plugins, and yet the dirt is still gone, PM me and I'll have a look at the Pine Trail Railroad Crossing lot and see what's going on....

    You're welcome!

    Dhoppe,

I found it, finally, I had to go all my backups of plugins, because those houses were installed before I had a bit of order in my plugin directory. But here's the link : https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=BAT&Str=new%20york%20homes

They're called New York Homes by odd from sweden

    Hope it'll help you!

    KOSC
Strange 22.gif  that you asked because, if I'm right, and I think 37.gif I am, you're the next in line, and it won't be long!
As for how a person can attain this level, it is a complicated process known only by a very few. 2.gif
But I'll say this : with a little observation you can easily guess it! 21.gif

    timotheus4
Your visits are few but VERY appreciated! 44.gif
Thanks for the compliment, that part looks simple but required some work.

    bobinator
Hey bob! long time no see, glad to see you're back!
Let me guess.... ski trip? 2.gif
thanks for your comments, grand work 43.gif . I hope I can live up to your expectations!
    godwin
Glad to be of service! 19.gif And as for tunnels, I was totally ignorant 42.gif before reading that thread, it's VERY useful.
And the other tip I could give you is to read several CJ's you'll find a lot of inspiration AND different ways to do things. 16.gif

    sloppet
Glad you like the passport, cause you and KOSC are both near of obtaining one! 2.gif

So people without further ado here's

    Update 8

    Techie's nest
(This update will probably be more appreciated by those who asked for more technical shots.)

    So here's the story

There's a weird place in Belfalas, 46.gif near the fusion reactor, that the older folks took a fancy of calling Techie's nest.
What they're refering to is a part of town that the technicians, and the white collars as well are fond of. In fact they're the only ones nuts enough and rich enough, cause it's trendy now, to live there.

So here's the Making of of Techie's nest

Here's the sector chosen by the promoter.

    bel_up8_01.jpg

Terraforming is beginning. A hole is dug.

    bel_up8_02.jpg

    The bottom is flattened.

    bel_up8_03.jpg

A pond is created, at this point of the project, Ol' Maggot raised a fuss about them techie's stealing his underground water source! But after several water analysis it was proved that it was not the case. So Maggot being the generous mac he is, offered to all workers a round of his finest draught!

    bel_up8_04.jpg

    Some terraces are created.

    bel_up8_05.jpg

On the upper level, after the water source was found, a bigger lake is created, so it can irrigate the whole sector.

    bel_up8_06.jpg

    bel_up8_07.jpg

    bel_up8_08.jpg

Some pics of the terraces zoning.

    bel_up8_09.jpg

    bel_up8_10.jpg

Another angle for the upper level lake

    bel_up8_11.jpg

    The terraces are growing rapidly

    bel_up8_12.jpg

    bel_up8_13.jpg

    bel_up8_14.jpg

The lake terraforming is continuing, with the addition of a walkway and a park.

    bel_up8_15.jpg

    bel_up8_16.jpg

    bel_up8_17.jpg

A global view of this sector so far!

    bel_up8_18.jpg

And this, people, was the story as told by Ol' Maggot himself over a pint of Entwash Extra Stout in the darkest corner of his brewery on a stormy night in Belfalas..... 22.gif

    Hope you liked it!

Thanks for your OVERWHELMING support, OVER 10 500 visitors now... who would have believe it! 46.gif

To all of you who enjoy reading this CJ, please receive a big thank you. 44.gif

To all of you who also take the time to write, know that your efforts are REALLY appreciated. 44.gif29.gif

See you next time in Anduin Valley.

    Take care

So, Darmok, do you think the techies can see the harbor from their nest? It looks like almost enough elevation. The only thing I'd add is a nice library and maybe a private school for the techie offspring. Cute little neighborhood! 18.gif

Great Update and Great Idea.44.gif  I like the fact that it is setup like a nest as well.48.gif  I also really like how the rock is formed around the upper lake.  Makes it look like a crater created it.44.gif  I would be interested though to know where the lake is being fed from.42.gif  I see in pic 8_15 there is a waterfall in the upper left corner, but it looks like it is running right off the road....

I really like the terrace effect.  I was trying something like that yesterday.  I just haven't gotten it right yet...32.gif

Since, I am a technical engineer, I guess I will have to retire to this fine neighborhood29.gif....Especially because it is only a bus ride away from Maggot's Brewery....48.gif

I've always seen this as the spiritual successor, almost, to Sculpting Columbia River. These cities take SC4 further than could have been imagined. I just wish I had the same terraforming ability - I may need you/Jeronij/*insert talented terraformer here* to help with the interactive CJ I may soon be running.

And if that CJ fails it's because everyone will be watching this and Columbia River instead 1.gif Amazing update again.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
I think the update was so beautiful and the PEG pond kit really helps us in making realistic ponds. The global look was also something to check out. I love your tall condo/hotel buildings.

Awesome update! I'm going to add this to my sig right away...44.gif

8_01- 03, I love those great terraforming tips! Somehow, I just can't get the slop as soft as the one on 8_05 with the small street. 9.gif

8_06 Great pond, although that water looks like it could drain in 2 seconds. 18.gif

8_07 Much better looking pond! PEG's stuff works really well when it comes to making asthetically pleasing places.

8_08 Great overview shot, and I love the smaller Zoning and use of Jeronij's walls. Looks brilliant.

8_09 Wow, I wonder how people get up those steps, I wouldn't want a little kid to get injured. lol 44.gif

    8_10 Great, Development starts!

8_11 That Trail Cut off looks nice, but Maxis should have made a Trail Circle end there....j/k 2.gif

8_12- 8_14 I love those full overview shots and the zone looks like its growing terrificly! 44.gif9.gif
8_15- 8_17 Oh wow! The Places have sure grown! Love the waterfall, very natrual! One thing, when the small stream above the waterfall goes into a bridge, does it lead into a neighboring city, because I could only see one end... Anyways...44.gif

8_18 Golbal view? Alwesome as always, And this one is exceptional with the new zone! 29.gif

Wow, The longest comment I've ever typed!

    Great Work!

    Cheers,
    KOSC

You know what? I don't know! And the library and the private school are excellent ideas! Thanks! 44.gif
    dhoppeii
Thanks dhoppe, 1.gif  I must confess that I chose the name first just out of the blue, and then seeing the name the idea of having it shaped like a kind of bowl or nest came 37.gif . The rock will change later on in the updates, I've chosen an older looking granite or something.
The stream source? Ah! Ha! It's coming from the mountain which is adjoining Belfalas on its eastern side, it's called Zirak Zigil (dont ask the signification of the name, it's in Dwarves language) which in turn is adjoining with the bigger Emen Muil, look at this pic, (I took it yesterday for you to see it more clearly)

    2_bel_info_dhop.jpg

As you can see, it comes from underground, so this is pure clean mountain water! I've heard that Ol Maggot himself is interested in making a new Pale Ale with it!

The terrace, boy oh boy! 26.gif The Mayor terraforming tools were used more than once! 46.gif But in the end it was not so bad! 5.gif Just a little patience is all.

Want a nice house in the nest? Say no more, just take your pic and let the City Council arrange a deal with one of the residents. This'll be in recognition of the farming counseling service you gave to Belfalas. 19.gif

Welcome to Anduin Valley. Legend! 43.gif ... Thanks, I don't know what to say to that, besides thanks a lot!
As for the updates I intend to do the whole Anduin Valley region. As long as my PC's holding, I'll post!
    DragonAnime
You're welcome man! the passport is well deserved.
And thanks for all your good words!

    Timbuk2
Thanks, and yep, Ol' Maggot is a swell bloke! Glad you like the mix of old and new, cause it was one of the idea behind the creation of Belfalas.
    kingofsimcity
First of all, A special thanks for having a link to Anduin Valley in your signature! That's REALLY apreciated you know! 44.gif (and by the way, if it's not too much trouble for you, could I ask that you make a slight correction to the name, you've put an extra r, it's just Anduin instead of Andurin)

Second : A big thanks 19.gif for that looooonnng post! Nice analysis of my work!

    and third :

The Anduin Valley Council, is proud to announce the arrival of a new citizen! Citizen kingofsimcity is hereby awarded his own Anduin Valley passport with all the privileges attached to it's possession. Please receive it and may it serves you well!

    Thanks for your encouragements!
Commute problems! I must confess that in Belfalas there's not that much traffic, first I'm using the NAM with one of the perfect pathfinding options (or whatever it is called, I don't remember exactly!) and the city has only around 16 000 citizens! So not much problem.

    FullStrenght
    First, Welcome to Anduin Valley.
Thanks for the comments, 1.gif and you just said something quite right there! Patience. 16.gif I really believe that this is the MAIN ingredient in all the interesting CJ's. So if you TAKE the time to do it, you WILL do it! For my part it was a short phrase of Jeroni in his Sculpting Columbia River CJ that gave me the kick in the pants I needed to change my view of SC4. He simply said, and I quote : QUOTE... This is a suggestion to who wants to hear it, PLAY WITH SC4, and NOT AGAINST, that's the key...END OF QUOTE
And end of sermon too!  17.gif

    itsi
Welcome to Anduin Valley! and thanks for your compliments. 19.gif Coming from an austrian, it's even more
appreciated, knowing how great parks and public places and fountains there are in austria, just by looking at the great pictures my sister brought back with her from her trips in Vienna. Man that is one country I'd love to see by myself! 21.gif
    again thanks and welcome!

    Ma8thew
Thanks for the compliments, I think that my way of doing things, have been greatly influenced by several other CJ'ers. The first and foremost being Jeroni with is magnificent work in Columbia River and also dhoppeii with is unique way of creating thriving rural communities in La Plaisance County, Marrast with the precision and calmness of Eladremme, and so many others... That's what I like the most in Simtropolis, the way each other can help, and inspire you in so many ways.

    4_rebirth.jpg

    And now folks here's
    Update 9
    Mixed nuts...
strange title! but fitting I think!
Well it seems that our little community as attracted the Stock Exchange attention and they asked if they could have a nice location in the city. So the city council have allowed them to install their building near the old town!

    bel_up9_01.jpg

    bel_up9_02.jpg

The AVAC (Anduin Valley Artisitc Community) have decided to sponsor a special housing project, for the modders and batters of Simtropolis, who are known to suffer from acute simcitytis. So this special condo will be build for them, including all the latest in supercomputers and secure wireless connections for LAN parties.

    bel_up9_03.jpg

    bel_up9_04.jpg

    bel_up9_05.jpg

As Belfalas is not that big an airport was out of the question, BUT the city council voted a budget for an Airport Tram service.

    bel_up9_06.jpg

    bel_up9_07.jpg

And as the Mayor is a frequent flyer, a new road is build to connect the Tram service to the Mayor's Square.

    bel_up9_08.jpg

With the arrival of the Airport Tram Service. A Convention center is deemed a good addition to the city. So you'll see in the following pictures how this has been realized.

    bel_up9_09.jpg

    bel_up9_10.jpg

    bel_up9_11.jpg

    Hey Darmok!

As Always, love the city, and ohh! Thanks for the passport! 43.gif

9_01, and 02: Awesome work with the awesome stock exchange! Those streets must be really crowder. That Giant cathedral at the bottom left corner of 9_02, where did ya get it! It looks awesome!
    9.gif44.gif

9_03-9_05 Great House for Modders, Batters, and LotTers! I'll take a room! 3.gif2.gif

9_06-9_08 Very busy area, and that street could be clogged after all those cars going to Belfala Tram. 1.gif

9_09-9_13 What an area for a convention center. i wonder what was the purpose ofr the small boutique at the top left corner powered by a wind palnt though...10.gif6.gif And those rowhome you got at the corner of 9_13, what are they? 44.gif

As always my friend, great update! 44.gif

    Cheers,
    KOSC

Ahhh, where do I begin my friend42.gif

First off, thanks for showing me where that water was coming from....It was bugging me...I'm a little anal retentive that way....If maggot makes a nice pale ale from the fresh mountain spring water, then I say, bring me half a glass of Guiness and bottoms up....

I noticed in your remarks, that you mentioned my technique of city building to be an inspiration....Thank you for that....I am truly humbled that fact that you have taken some inspiration from me, when you were the driving force behind me even starting a CJ.

    And now to the update...

In the first couple of pics that highlight the Stock Exchange, I just love you European the buildings look.  Especially when not too far away, the start to mix up.  I also noticed the statue in pic 9_02.  Nice touch...

Nice placement of the Artisitic community building.  That sure does look familiar....2.gif

Great idea with the Airport Tram service and the subsequent convention center.  These will be a nice addition to Belfalas, especially with the tourist industry down on the waterfront.

I noticed in your last pic the farms.  I thought through previous conversations that you were using the BSC Farming EP?  If your are, do you have the no Maxis farms mod installed?

    Great Update as always......

    Later...

Do you mind if I build my self a small nice house out there ? 1.gif The stock exchange picture is alos really magnificent. I'll say it again the Berlin buildings fit in so well. Nice update and I really look forward to using my passport in the near future. 2.gif
