Thank you for your regular support! It's appreciated.

    jacqulina
jacqulina, thank you for your kind words!

    sloppet
I'm a bit puzzled by your question, because you already are a citizen, you received your passport on page 13 update 11 of Belfalas, you even manage the Fisherman's wharf.

    schooner2
Thanks schooner, glad you enjoy it!

    Timbuk2
Hey Timbuk2, thanks! Yep good observation about the water taxi! look below I think that's beter.

    cas_wtr_txi.jpg

Yes, all the names I'll be using are ALL names of cities OR geographical locations in the Lord of the rings trilogy, has I explained in the very first post of the CJ. 19.gif I guess that I'm kind of nuts about that story! Keep reading it at least once every year since 1981! 46.gif

    dhoppeii
Thanks man! sorry 'bout your monitor!

The castle I'll use later in another city. I came up with something else.

The winding roads, well if you want I've prepared a little something, bear in mind that I don't think that I do the best work on winding roads, I won't even call this a tutorial it would be presomptuous let's call this a How I try do it yeah, thats more appropriate!

    Alright, lets go
    We'll begin with a hill

    how_i_do_1.jpg

I plop several patches at the base, and then plop TWO patches at each end of the next level.

    how_i_do_2.jpg

When plopping the two patches at each end doesn't work, I use the lowering terraforming tool, I press SHIFT 1, to have the smallest pointer and then I CAREFULLY lower two patches each end! A and B But I really dont care about whats between them in C

    how_i_do_3.jpg

After that I use the ROAD tool, rather that the street tool, I get more realistic slopes that way.

    how_i_do_4.jpg

    how_i_do_5.jpg

By using two patches, it seems that the square on wich the road lands stays straighter that way, so the rest of the road will look better.

    how_i_do_6.jpg

    how_i_do_7.jpg

And in the end use whatever walls you like, or even keep the rock face, and for a more rural look you can replace the road by a street.

    how_i_do_8.jpg

    Hope that it can help.

And by the way I think that my winding roads need to be improved yet.30.gif I think that sometimes they look too stiff I'd like a more sloppy or loose look! 19.gif

Thanks for the comment for the beach I really had fun doing that! 3.gif

Yeah I hate thoses boxes, 32.gif but I'm getting better at avoiding them.2.gif

On the inspiration topic, I really see the CJ's as means of learning, I believe that we all have a lot to learn from each other. 19.gif

    Take care!

    your_adress_here

Hey YAH!, you're right. And you'll see in a few updates that I've worked something out with those winding roads. Don't forget that what you're seeing is praticaly a month old. Thanks for your unbiased opinion. 44.gif

    DragonAnime
Thanks dragon, didn't know you liked penthouses, we'll see what we can do about it. 2.gif

    Shadow_Assassin
Sarcasm! well... I can take it! 18.gif As I said before I had problems with the BSC farms, 26.gif and with the PC crashing all the time I took whatever pics I could. 34.gif But be patient. I think It'll improve along the way.

    godwin1020

2- glad you like the terraforming! I'ts getting easier, but lots to learn yet! 21.gif
3- Not too long in fact, sometimes, more ordinary setups gives me more challenge! 7.gif
4- Practicaly all at max, except resolution (1280X1024) and no transparent UI.
5- Sim Pray that HE doesn't send you to SIM Hell! 17.gif
    6- They grew form a horse tree....2.gif
7- You just named it! I'm keeping that name! 19.gif
    8- Surfboards, bikinis, beachboy's music, LET'S PARTY  39.gif
9- Though I should lower it! (see pic above)
10- Hey, give the man a cigar! he found the fire department! You have a keen eye amigo! 44.gif
11- Yeah the dreaded box! 26.gif But I corrected the situation afterwards. 19.gif
12- Now I try to take more global shots.

    Thanks KOSC

    Thats all for now,
take care and see you next update!

Hey Darmok....First off, I think the water taxi station does look better at the lower elevation44.gif.....

Thanks for the mini tutorial29.gif....I will have to try that in the morning when I get up.

(I usually get an hour or two of game time in on the weekends before everyone gets out of bed)

I really appreciate it anytime someone takes the time to show how they accomplished somthing in their CJ.  As you said, I think we can all learn from each other.

    Take Care My Friend....

Beautiful update as usual Darmok.  I love how Belfalas has turned out and it looks like Cair Andros is coming along great as well.  Oh, and thanks for displaying the new pond kit.  I have it, but haven't had the need to use it yet, but now I can't wait.

I'm looking forward to the next update with much excitement.

    Darmok,

I've been promoting your CJ in my signature for a while now, but I realized I've never really commented...how rude.  So, I'll do so now.  29.gif

So, here goes 15 pages worth of replies.  10.gif

First off, I like your picture frames and the headers you use for your updates.  I just use a single graphic at the top of my updates with the exception of the memos that you see posted from one city official to another in my CJ.  Makes me reconsider my style!  44.gif

I must admit, your initial zoning pic on page 1 gave me much inspiration for Tarrytowne.  You may see some similarities if you look.  Figured it would be the ultimate compliment to try to recreate much of the zoning with my own style and flare.  19.gif

I like how you terraform and I use that method now myself.  Much easier.

I like the terraced areas.  And I like how you look like you may be starting to incoporate the Jap wall sets in the terraced areas too.  I just love those walls.

You have a great mix of residential, commercial and industrial zoning.  And it all seems to be in close proximity to each other with little affect on the residential areas.

    And your parks...just love em.

Great CJ.  I've definitely subscribed to this one!  44.gif29.gif

Thanks creillmann. For the pond kit I'ts really impressive! I just wish that PEG will find a solution for a one tile width waterfall.
The next update should be tomorrow. I hope! 47.gif

Just trying to help, And as I've said, this is by no means a definitive way to do it. I really don't consider myself an expert, 20.gif I'm just having fun learning! 29.gif

    ILL Tonkso
First, Welcome to Anduin Valley Ill Tonkso, glad to read you! 5.gif
Really glad if I've helped you in any way.  It's but a small way to thank you for all the good lots you've made! 44.gif

    schooner2
You're welcome schooner, and ONLY the brick wall is a japanese bat, the others are jeroni's, you'll find them with this link : https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?mode=files&filetype=all&category=default&sortby=DatePosted&show=12&Str=jeroni

    Welcome to Anduin Valley decola!
43.gif A BIG thank you for those compliments. 19.gif I'm overwhelmed! 3.gif Do come back to visit us, we like company!

    aldara6166
aldara, first let me Officialy welcome you to our Valley!
Thanks for your appreciation of the aesthetic side of the CJ itself, really glad you appreciate it! 19.gif
And if I've influenced you in any way, I consider it a great compliment! 43.gif
I really think that the important thing in SC4 is that even if we take inspiration from one another, we can adapt it to our OWN style and having FUN in the process!

As for the terraforming bit, I've inspired myself in a LARGE way by looking at Jeroni's work, and day after day he stills impress me! 3.gif

The japanese walls, they are a mixed blessings, in certain circumstances I don't like 'em cause we can see a certain repetition in the pattern, but overall they're very good an brings us a needed variety. 16.gif

As for the effect of the commercial and industrial, as I've explained in the first page, I use a LOT of mods, including Super Demand, but I must say that even with those, sometimes it takes several months and sometimes years (of game time) to get what I want! The bottom line again is I use mods because I want to have fun with the GAME.
Glad you like my parks, I really like doing them, so relaxing! And one can dream of cities greener and cleaner.  10.gif

Oh and I almost forgot, THANK YOU, for the link in your signature, I'm honored! 44.gif

    Take care

    Darmok,

Have you checked out/downloaded PEG's newest version/update of the Pond kit.  There are now left and right sides as well as middle pieces for the waterfalls, so that you can now make a waterfall as wide as you can imagine it.

    Hope this helps...

Im rather fond of all the little candid shots of life in your city, and how wonderfully contrived they are.. oh and the tutorials are really helpful, especially for leveling terrain, which before reading your tut's i found quite difficult.
My only critisism is your region view, which sort of looks messy, but ive actually grown to love it.. and top notch work on Cair Andros, it looks like a wonderful little suburb with a somewhat elaborate transport network.. ive actually started building nicer more spacious suburbs in my cities with alot more tree's.. Keep up the good work Darmok!1.gif

    aldara
Thanks for pointing that out. 2.gif But my problem is that I'd like to have a ONE tile width waterfall, so as long that there is a left AND right side, that makes it two tiles wide, 45.gif I've tried using only the middle lot, the look is great 19.gif in the waterfall itself, but the connecting tiles at top and bottom leaves kind of a unnatural look where it joins with the rest of the pond kit. I guess I'll develop a technique to use it. A big thanks for your concern and help. 44.gif

    godwin
Don't mention it for the stats! It's a great idea, and in the future, when a city is concluded, I'll post an update on the stats. Thanks! 48.gif

    decola
Again thanks for those good, and articulate comments! 16.gif As for the region view I could post one with the transportation map instead of the satellite view. And the trees, I really think that it's the better way to improve the look of a city. And it's even ecological! It's a win/win scenario!

And now ladies and gents, gather round the campfire! Cause here's the continuing story of Anduin Valley as told by Ol' Maggot himself.

    3_CAS_INtro.jpg

    Update 3
    Farms, fishing and tourism!

Please do not be afraid of heights if you want to aplly for a job at this orchard!

    cas_up3_01.jpg

    More farms

    cas_up3_02.jpg

Terraforming for the furture High School is beginning!

    cas_up3_03.jpg

Farms and residential development. All around the island, several towers will be build, mostly for
    whale watching.

    cas_up3_04.jpg

    A big dairy farm!

    cas_up3_05.jpg

Here you can see the Scenic King route with the adjoining trail which leads to Dragon Beach!

    cas_up3_06.jpg

Yeah I know, must not forget to break, and PLEASE do apply your parking break! (This will be corrected later on).

    cas_up3_07.jpg

It was bound to happen, the little fishing installations, are quickly outdated, and a bigger wharf is being built, with some tourist shops.

    cas_up3_08.jpg

Another angle for the new wharf.

    cas_up3_09.jpg

And to finish this update, two global shots.

    cas_up3_10.jpg

    cas_up3_11.jpg

    So this was update 3.

Folks I'm REALLY overwhelmed 4.gif by the way this CJ's going, I would never thought that I'd get as great support, good comments and constructive criticism as you're giving me people! 3.gif I know i've said it before, but I feel that I must repeat it, because it's more and more true... THANK YOU! for that continuous and good support.
It is so appreciated, and any of you who have a CJ, KNOWS how important it is! THANKS

    Take Care

Wow.....Anduin Valley goes completely rural.....I love it29.gif I think it is incredible the way you have built to the terrain.  I know how challenging that can be.

Ok, so did the dairy farm grow or did you plop it?  If you did plop, I gotta know the name (you should have figured that eh?)

Love the use of the pine trails and the little dirt parking lot for the trails looks perfect.

Sorry we are overwhelming you......Guess you'll just have to start making crappy cities....17.gif

    Hey Darmok,

Andurin valley looks good as it becomes rural in South Cair Andros. I love picture 3_01, that farm right there on the coast is something nice to look at. Picture 3_04 is something to look at too, those farms have a nice color to them, and not something a farm is used to. I also love the tral on the coast. 3_05, what a nbice dairy farm, 3_09 is very nice I love the seaport you have there.

    Nice update as usual,

    your friend,

    Hola Amigo!

I'm honored that you named a trail after me! 43.gif The update was fantiastic! 44.gif

3_01 I like how you fenced off that part of the farm with a nice tree lined fence. Great work! 44.gif
3_02 the BSC Farming EP is starting to look good! Hey, I see a truck apperaring out of nowhere! 6.gif
3_03 A high school! I cna't wait to torture them with homework... 11.gif
3_04 That House on the top corner looks very different to the rest, maybe because of the trails. I like how the elevated road runs through a forest and farms. Great! 2.gif
3_05 Eww...I wonder what is all that stuff on that tank..looks like manure. Cowabunga! I wonder what those people must smell everyday... 47.gif
3_06 Dragon Beach is Name after DA, and that route looks awesome! Walking along the trail? No problemo! 2.gif
3_07 Yes. 25 MPH should do it. Make sure people don't get smashed...11.gif
3_08 Now thats a fishing village! I love it! I want to go fish....31.gif44.gif
3_09 Thats friggin awesome! Where did you get those apartments next to the fishing village?
3_10 and 3_11 Awesome overviews! I wonder whats north of this peninsula?

    Great Job as always Darmok!

Right now, I don't have much more time to comment on the pictures... all that I can say is that I'm with that last update, those global shots are fantastic!
The only thing that I might suggest is having fewer perfect-sqaure farms; instead, try variating the shape a bit, having un-sqaure edges, if you know what I mean... I just can't explain anything tonight...

    Keep up the good work!

Nice.. your city looks very realistic, i could imagine passing by a place like pic 3_05 on route to work or school.. and it looks so clean! Here in Kl very few areas inside of the city centre are so green and clean(and i dont live to far away from there), your city reminds me of when i used to live in Essex with all the trails and grassy areas, i would move in to Anduin if i could (oh, and a transportation map view would be lovely)!

Looking forward to the next update!!29.gif

Here is a pic from my CJ that show's this waterfall in use.  Not sure if this will fit your needs or not but it is a 1 tile wide waterfall.

Without your support, we just would not be in our 24th year online!  You really help make this a great community. *:thumb:

But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.

By way of a "Thank You" gift, we'd like to send you our STEX Collector's DVD. It's some of the best buildings, lots, maps and mods collected for you over the years. Check out the STEX Collections for more info.

Each donation helps keep Simtropolis online, open and free!
