For some odd reason, I'm not able to get into the Chat . . . after clicking on the "accept" button, it redirects me to a blank screen.  I've tried both Firefox 3 and IE7, so I'm fairly certain it's not a browser issue.

I've also tried typing in the URL directly, and it usually leads me to a 404 page.

Thanks for the quick response, beebs. 4.gif

Unfortunately, though, I'm still not able to get in.  I've tried playing around with the cookie and pop-up settings, and went into about:config and tried some stuff there as well, to no avail.  Absolutely bizarre.

Sometimes your browser just doesn't feel like loading the page. (I remember that happened to me once) So I had to restart the browser.

It's been almost two months since i was last able to use the Stex or the home page, it's really starting to get on my nerves and the fact That I keep getting ignored isn't helping, in fact it's making me madder and madder. I'm tired of having to go through some random page where the URL got saved to my browser, hell I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for the page flip bug, yeah that's how bad this problem is, I can't get on any other way. I'd like some help, Or else my 300th post will be my last one. I'm fed up with talking to a brick wall, even a "What do you expect us to do about it?" would be nice. Here's a forum issue for you, a member with a genuine problem is being ignored to the point of being fed up with this forum.

First of all, let me apologize for your not getting an answer in a timely fashion.

Second, exactly what IS your problem?

You state you can't use the STEX.  What exactly can't you use?  I know the STEX has had some recent problems with uploading files but I am not aware of any problems with downloading files.  I access the STEX daily and have had no problems accessing files.

You state you can't use the home page.  Exactly what can't you use?  I access the home page daily and have not had any problems using any of the features and functions on the page.

Once you've better identified exactly what probems you are experiencing, I'll see what I can do about getting you some answers.

Regards,

Gary (Vandy)

Well for one thing, I can't get on the home page, it freezes every time I try, I get the same issue with the Stex. They freeze before they're even done loading, sometimes I get on the stex, but the second I scroll down it locks up and crashes, I don't really know how to describe what It's been doing the last two months. It's like there's some kind of problem with sending the information.

With all the problems I wonder if there are more forum members like me, who have no access to the stex at all

Thank's for replying to my post Vandy.

Hi, Wrightguy0.

I'm at a loss as to what may be the cause of your problems.  I access Simtropolis (including the home page and the STEX) on five different computers and have no problems using the features, functions and links on any of the pages on any of my computers.

I'll bring up your issues in the Staff STEX thread and see if there are any ideas.

I'll keep you posted in this thread.

Regards,

Gary (Vandy)

Wrightguy0: What browser are you using? I am aware that Internet Explorer and Firefox 3 have some issues with the forums, but I have not heard any problems with the STEX.

I am using Firefox 2 right now, and there are no problems with the site. I'd recommend you switch to this if you are having major issues.

Best,

-Haljackey

Could you please give us some more information?

Which browser and version do you use?

Have you tried any other browsers?

What type of internet connection do you use?

Does it just affect your home PC, or have you had this problem on other computers too?

Have you tried clearing your browsing history, cookies, cache etc?

If you log off can you see the home page as a guest?

I use IE6 at work and IE7 at home, both with XP and Vista, while there are some occasional problems it mostly works fine - nothing like you have described.

I'm in IE7, both my home computers have trouble getting the site up. A new browser is out of the question, my dad and I already talked about this, he dosen't want a new browser, I'm too afraid that if I log off I'll never get back on, and we've cleared our history at least once.

I just used IE7 to get to the STEX and had no problems.

Could it be your firewall settings?

What firewall are you using?  and what kind of permissions does it give this site?

Okay, so the question becomes, what changed in September?

As abcvs says, what permissions does this site have on your firewall?   If there are multiple users on your computer, they could have been changed without your knowing it.

As far as I know nothing has changed at my end, and There is no option to add websites to a safe list, that I'm aware of. There are multiple user accounts, but no one goes in anything but the admin. account

Well, I'm still running into issues trying to use the chat . . . I've tried reinstalling Java, Flash and Firefox itself, to no avail.

I had been running Java 6 Update 10, and downgraded it to Update 7, too, to see if it would work.  Firefox is at version 3.0.4 and Flash is Version 10.

I've also attempted to make a firewall rule to allow communications through port 443 with simtropolis.com (which should be enabled anyway--standard https port), but that also seems to have not done anything.

Absolutely weird . . .

Wrightguy0: I also had major problems accessing ST. Firefox helped somewhat, but the site would still stall, freeze, or simply load extremely slowly. I use Windows Vista, IE7, and have a cable connection, and the site loads about as fast as it did when I was on DSL, or even ISDN. This site is simply slow, and I suspect either unoptimized code or the programming language used as the cause.

It's possible that the site is still loading, but it may cause your browser to freeze or stall a bit. Try giving it a few minutes. If not, you can try once more to convince your dad to try out a new browser (don't even need to get rid of IE7). If that doesn't work, there is one option left.

Go to the Accessories folder under your start menu programs (on Vista, it is Start -> All Programs -> Accessories). Under that, look for "System Tools" or something similar. In that folder (or directly in the "Accessories" folder), there should be an icon labelled "Internet Explorer (No Add-ons)". Try accessing ST using this. It will not load any videos, but that usually isn't important for this website. Using IE without addons makes this site load 4-5 times as fast as it usually does. It's the only way I can view this site now, at least until I reinstall FF2 and see if that loads the site faster.

Gammro: I am getting the same bug too, so its not you.

The STEX search is resulting in an error code for all browsers. In the meantime, you can use the "popular" and "highest rated" tabs to still find, access, and download quality custom content.

Best,

-Haljackey
