Hmm...I definitely still associate dev with the guy in the avatar...William Hung, is he?  I don't know who William Hung is, but a quick Google indicates he was on American Idol.  Cool.

 

I still associate many people with avatars:

Dirk = Elrond with sunglasses

Sharr = Jennifer Garner

SkiGeek = Momma's House lady...although SkiGeek isn't that old, I still associate the picture with her.

 

Some people's unforgettable pictures in this thread are now the image I think of when I see their name...such as Tropod's picture with the head to one side and that expression...

For awhile I actually wondered if Ski Geek's avatar was Vicki Lawrence  or possibly Dana Carvey's Church Lady;  I guess all of those hours of TV Land didn't help me.

I'm also amazed at all of the avatars of female anime characters only to discover that the members are male.   As Seinfeld would say, What's up with that?

I'd be tempted in jest to ask someone in my profession to start a study to find out the meaning behind Internet names & avatars but I'm afraid somebody would actually waste taxpayer money to do it!!!

P.S. On American Idol it was Fantasia and some of the other women voted off just before her who were cool (or so my wife tells me;  I was either putting the kids in bed or playing Sim City at the time! );  William Hung- unh uh

IMO, What they are doing to William Hung is mean, and my moms friend was saying that he wouldn't be surprised if someone from Superstar USA (it aired on MuchMusic a few weeks ago) killed themselves because of that. Reality tv must be stopped! NOW!! (cause it's soo fake!)
