The next mod is more challenging... How can we make Sims use the zebras?? 17.gif

Anyway, cool job!  Once it's uploaded, I'll test it.

An excellent idea, one of those thins I've always wanted only didn't know about it. About the textures: I think it could look a bit better if you made them a bit darker, the same shade as the arrows on one-way streets.

I begin a mod for new road textures.
First I change the yellow lines by broken white line but it works only with straight road (at this time).
Example :

And with the zebra mod :
exemple2.JPG

It looks more european 2.gif

Woohoo! It's great to see some people are trying to make the game more European looking! First the zebra crossing mod, then the Euro traffic light mod and now a road texture mod. Perhaps we should combine our efforts to make a European network conversion mod. This seems to be a bit easier than a light rail mod or the avenue turning lane mod, since it only involves texture and type 21 exemplar editing - a lot of work, too, needless to say, but it can be done. 1.gif

I can do alot of UK style signs and textures as flat images, but I can't do any of the modding stuff. So if anyone could extract the textures I could maybe edit them to look more British, by adding box junctions, double yellow lines etc?

And if it's possible to take flat images and turn them straight into props (either in GMAX or some other way), I could make lamp post and sign props to fir the UK too. Perhaps others could make a mod so they turned up occasionally on roads and streets?

-EDIT
Here is a photoshopped example

<ahttp://img182.exs.cx/img182/7926/dunston23feb0511059026333dp.jpg width=190 align=baseline>

I could create the texture, and the belisha beacons as flat images. If a modder could use these to create the lot, maybe we could be onto something? I'd need the road original texture(s) extracting though.

It would take a fair bit of work, but if it were shared around, I think it'd be do-able.

NDP, the beacons could be done in GMAX, made into props, and placed on the lot. I just need to know how tall the beacons are and the diameter of the light globe at the top. I have quite a bit of spare time since I only have college classes twice a week. I am fairly capable of making textures. I could do your crosswalk texture soon. I need to update my crosswalks that I have on the STEX to match the new Zebra Crossing Mod, so I will do yours while I am doing the updates on mine.

just a thing about the zebra mod
1) I absolutely love it! great job! looks MUCH better!
2) they zebra's only appear on road-road intersections... there are none on road-street or road-avenue connections... any chance you can add those too?

INVITATION
=========

Since there are at least 3 active 'EuropeanRoadNetwork' threads I'd like to invite everybody who's interested to participate in a discussion (thread or chat) about setting up this as ONE project.

Why?
1st: I believe that especially the redesign of the road/street textures could be organized very efficient (making a variation of several road/street FSHs should be much less time consuming, if each tile has to be touched only once)
2nd: A discussion based on the opinion of many Simtropolitans is supposed to build up compromises. Not anything can be individual.
3rd: A coordinated project would minimize compatibility issues and could easiely/easylie/easyly (heck, how is this spelled ?) gather (bring together) a huge amount of knowlege and experience.

So, if YOU are interested, I suggest that we either meet in a chat room (which has to be created by a skilled Simtropolitan - I've never done something like this) or I will create an appropiate thread.
Please PM your opinion to MayorBean.

@Moderators/Admins: I crossposted this in the UK road textures, Zebra crossing and EuroStoplights threads. I'm aware that this is against the forum rule, but I hope you recognize what I'm aiming at. So don't delete this postings, please.

Sincerely

~bean~

Edit: revoked due lack of interest.

Thanks for the texture, NDP. I'll run it through FiSHMan later tonight. And if you don't mind, I'll copy the crosswalk portion and use it update my crosswalk textures.

Eddiem, thanks for the link. I'll get to modeling the beacons this weekend.

Ya know, I was just pondering over something like the broken lines mod....

I usually do only rural regions, and I'm used to living in those areas, and the solid lines out in the middle of the country just annoyed me. If you'd eventually make a version with yellow lines, I'd appreciate it.

These textures look very good. Just to let you know, we don't have zebra crossings at intersections here in the UK, but have solid markings at the intersection (traffic signal).

Why does one drive on a parkway and park on a driveway?

Why is delivery by boat called a cargo and one by land called a shipment?

So THAT'S what those zigzag lines are about...

Over here, we're pretty blunt about it. Insert one sign labelled NO PARKING. Road markings are sometimes used, but they too say NO PARKING or NO STANDING. Original, huh?

Too bad if you can't read English...

Australian road markings are pretty much identical to the American ones, except we generally stick with all-white.

Will there be zebra crossings for avenues as well?..

This all looks very nice Morifari. Same with your euro (or to me, australian) road textures mod. Would you be able to make another mod which just has the unbroken white lines without the zebra crossing in the middle of it? That's how they all are over Australia really. That is if you have the time.
