I thought some of you might find this a bit interesting. I'm making a zebra crossing mod:

For now, this mod alters road- and one-way intersections. No changes are made to interchanges that involve streets or avenues at the moment. This may change in the future

I think it looks quite nice. I would definately be interested in using this mod. If you aren't completely happy with the textures, maybe you could fade them a little to make them look older and more used? But I quite like them.

Great!!..I've  been waiting for someone to make this mod.. 29.gif

Perhaps, as Sam said, you should fade them somewhat, and also remove the thin white lines...

Hey, it is a good idea to change textures on road 2.gif

I think that bands are not enough fine. And you should remove the yellow line to replace it with white bands, like one-way road and avenue.

Good job anyway 19.gif

    Thanks for your comments!

Now, I'm not going to replace all road textures. With curves, diagonals, intersections etc. that would be about a gazillion FSH-files! 3.gif I think I'm just sticking with this small mod for now.

OK, I think I've decided on this texture (just some small changes, really, but effective, I think):

I guess I could have made the bands a bit narrower... but I think this looks OK too. It has to be visible at further zooms as well. If that's OK by you folks, I'll put in on the STEX in a while. Or, if you'd like to make some more suggestions, go ahead. 1.gif

Hmm. Apparantly all uploading to the STEX is disabled for a few days due to server maintanance. Also, I'm going away this weekend. I guess I won't get to upload this until early next week. 30.gif Well, maybe I'll think up some improvements in the meantime. 1.gif

Cool. Here is another idea, in the UK we have ziggity zaggity lines in the run up to crossings. On some we have orange lights on black and white poles that flash when it is safe to cross. I know animated props are near impossible, but if they light up at night, then that would be good. Just a suggestion.

The 2nd texture looks better.. 44.gif

..any chance of releasing a version with only bands (no broken lines)?..

Hey, this is a very nice mod! In Germany, zebra crossings are only used when there are no traffic lights, but for intersections with traffic lights there are those broken lines like the ones you made without the bands.

zebra crossing without traffic lights (I guess the SUV driver has to pay a hefty fine for overtaking the other car here 2.gif )

crossroads with traffic light (this is just around the corner of my university)

I think this mod is wonderful, something I've definitely been looking forward to.. Have you tried using those more stripes? The photo Xeni-2 provided shows that there are more stripes on the road.. Don't get me wrong, I like the mod a lot, but I wonder what it would look like if the stripes were 'to-scale' as it were.. Right now they look a bit large for the tiny sims..

Keep up the work on this great improvement! 44.gif

OK, another update. On second thought, I actually agree that there should be more stripes, so I changed it. Now I think it's about right. What do you think?

As for making versions without dotted lines, with zigzaggy lines, with only dotted lines and no stripes, with flashing lights... nah. I'm making this one version. Deal with it. I think stripes and dotted lines should be a decent compromise for everyone. 9.gif

That looks cool, I wouldn't mind getting that for my city. This has probably been asked but do you have to lay the roads out again for it to take effect?

Other than that question, I like it!!44.gif

From what I can tell, Morifari is replacing the game's existing textures. Therefore, you shouldn't have to lay out the roads again.

    Hello morifari,

This is a fantastic addition to the game !!! 17.gif Yes, I love it 19.gif !!!. It will give a touch of reality to our cities.... Im my country are more commoner the straight lined ones, but as Equinox completely right said, we will deal with whatever you give us. 29.gif I cant wait to see them in Columbia River....

Very good job, like most of yours.44.gif

I agree... this was a great idea and it looks very good! I will be certain to use it! :)
I liked a slod line better, but I do agree more stripes looks better :)

also, you may want to try posting it in the modding files section, instead of on STEX

Looks good. Nice job. I agree with Equinox, the solid lines do look a bit better.

Ouch... it seems that everybody liked the solid stripes better. And I've already posted it on the STEX. Maybe I'll have to update it now. 34.gif

About posting it in the mod section *soapbox mode*: I actually prefer having it on the STEX. Stuff is more available there, as more people visit it more frequently. I think a lot of people hardly know that there is a mod section, and it's certainly not somewhere you check in often. It also makes it easier for me to keep track of the downloads. Additionally, I'd have to PM the right people and wait to have it approved if I wanted to put it in the mods. Of course, the mod section is great for big stuff like the NAM and such, but I think there should be a space on the STEX for small mods like this. */soapbox mode*

Well, that's my two cents on that issue...

Oh, and no, you don't need to re-lay roads. It'll change the ones you've already laid down too.

I rather do without the stripes, but I prefer them broken if compared to solid..

Why not post two versions? (or three?) 3.gif

A very nice addition to the game and a very good idea.

I would recommend though that the mod be extended so as to include streets and avenues, and replace the road/street textures as well, thus creating themes; not everywhere in the world roads have a double yellow continous line, the rightmost highway lane in many countries is separated with a continous rather a dashed line etc.

I would recommend that you make a poll to get other players' suggestions and wishes.
